Remember the bug tracker:
search and report.

It's the "official" place for reporting bugs and filing feature requests. It's easier to spot (and remember) them from there than this forum thread :)

Currently when i long 'press' the sensor and disable the shortcut, it disables but the device still vibrates every time i move my finger over the sensor.

I think this can be considered as a bug. I've saved you the trouble and added it to bugzilla myself :) Thanks for reporting.

Do you have the camera key enabled in the settings of shortcutd (settings panel?)

@marshad, is it enabled in the settings? Does it vibrate when you touch the sensor? Does camera key work for you?

Works with sensor.

Does not work with camera button.

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

Don't hate me for this, but wouldn't it make sense to merge shortcutd and tweakr? The less similar apps the better, even if both apps are great, which these two are!

Helmuth 2010-03-12 07:25

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

What does tweaker with the camera button?

I can't see any shared characteristics. Could you explain this?
As far as I know: Tweaker is for modding. ShortCudD for usability. :)

I don't want to install a big software package when a small and clever application can do the same job.

Brank 2010-03-12 07:28

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

Tweakr also has powerbutton functions, which imo is the same thing as using camera button functions. I don't share your view on tweakr being for modding any more than shortcutd to be honest. Tweakr has just expanded the scope a bit more.

Helmuth 2010-03-12 11:32

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

?! :D

Tweakr only modifies the Setting for the Power Button. But it doesn't install a daemon and add a additional function to a not used Button. Sorry, these are total different things. :)

The Menu for the Power Button was there before. ShortCutD doesn't modify a existing function, it adds a own function.

Tweakr couldn't do the same job without installing the same daemon like ShortCutD does. So, why not install it from a seperate package?

Brank 2010-03-13 18:18

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

Cause setting button functions for camera button or power button seems like similar tasks to me. So why not group stuff like this up. Also camera button had uses set to it already, those are just enable for larger/different kind of use. I still don't understand what the difference is between assigning tasks for the two buttons. It would be the same thing if you assigned actions for the backspace key for example? I'd have this button also inside the application that lets you define what each button does.

While I do see that these programs have similarities from the UX point of view, they techically work on different principles.. Both of these projects have already working packages and they can co-exist without conflicts. There is very little to be gained from merging, and I am against merging projects just for the sake of it (The traditional unix way is to "have a program do one thing and do it well").

But as the programs are under GPL you are of course free to combine these under your own project as you see fit... alternatively, providing a patch to accomplish this could give you a whole new edge in this discussion as it would save us the work that might feel unnecessary ;)

I just found shortcutd today, from another thread (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=575706&postcount=6), liked it alot, but got me wanting more, so I made a feature request, which actually has many of the features discussed in this thread kind of combined when I later read this. TFR:

Yes, I've got the same Idea in the beginning of this year. Good to see someone else comming up with such a suggestion. Your Idea is more than I want, but that shouldn't be a problem for me. http://www.en.kolobok.us/smiles/icq/good.gif

hqh, one of the two programmer of shortcutd wrote that it could be worth to implement this if enought people find it useful. So with a second simmilar suggestion I hope the chance for a implementation gone up! http://www.en.kolobok.us/smiles/icq/dance.gif

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

Dear hqh / hopbeat. Thanks for your very great tool. I would like to make a feature request: being able to customize the cam button to pause the playback of my audio player (if it is currently playing) and to resume it (if it is currently not playing). I hope this is technically possible. For the first function, the functionality could be taken from Headphone daemon, i suppose. The situation I am dreaming of is, of course, the following: I walk or jog and want to stop and resume the player without having to take out my n900 and use its touchscreen for this. Hmm. If the program could just be customized to run any script, i suppose i would just have to call scripts with "dbus-send --type="method_call" --dest=org.panucci.panucciInterface /panucciInterface org.panucci.panucciInterface.playPause
" and the like. Such "call what you like" functionality is not yet included? Anway, i would be most grateful if you could add this feature.

I have this Mugen Power 2400 mAh battery now. Currently I still have their design flawed back cover, which is missing the critical magnet and microSD-card cannot be mounted. But after they have fixed it, it still will be reality that back cover won't have a lens cover, and the device thinks the lens cover is open all the time.

Now shortcutd obviously has some switch, that it won't work when the lens cover is open. Yes, that would be annoying when you are trying to take a photo, some shortcutd triggered action or usermenu would pop up. But now with this bigger 2400 Mugen battery, shortcutd is useless.

Shortcutd could still be used, optionally if user chooses in the configuration, this way:
Instead checking if the lens cover is being open or not, it would check if the camera application is on the foreground, "maximized" or not. (I'll create an "official" bugtracker ticket fot this later.)

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

What about to use the camera button to send a pause/resume command to audio/video applications while the screen is locked?

Is this possible? :)

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

Hi,
Very good and helpful app.
On my phone, when I press the camera button, the phone opens OK on short press Like I asked and "menu" on a long press just like I wanted - BUT I ALSO get the "camera standby" screen opening in the background. Is this standard? Can it be canceled? Or is this a bug on my phone?

slender 2010-04-30 10:13

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

N900's camera shutter button has two steps (as all the proper cameras, half-way it focuses and down it take picture, FYI this is why you should never ever just press it at once down to take picture) so press it half-way down. If you press it down then you will have always camera standby screen also.

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

@ slender
Got it! there's "Long vs. Short press" and "Half-way (no click) vs. Full press (click)". I mixed the two up. Thanks.

Is it possible to disable shortcutd for specific applications because it is not very useful together with Sygic and my car kit...

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

I've just realised something shortcutd needs that's so obvious I can't believe I hadn't noticed it before... Is it possible to map an input to shift-backspace, thus giving a forward button for the browser?

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

I have the proximity sensor toggle after long press option on.

Is it supposed to toggle after I'm done with a phone call? I'm guessing the sensor is registering my ear as a long press toggle during the phone call.

DaSilva 2010-05-24 09:21

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

Somehow the proximityd is not running anymore, even after a reboot and new settings (but it is still installed).
How can I fix it?

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

I can't get this to work in PR 1.2 at all.

Anyone else having the same problem?

Nevermind, I just had to restart the phone.

Edit 2: Seems like phone calls break my shortcutd. I have to restart shortcutd sometimes.

Hi guys, I'm having a problem since updating to 1.2. Even with the cam button half-pressed down, it opens the camera application up. Anyone know how I can disable this?

can confirm this behaviour in PR 1.2 also.

Hmm... strange. Shortcutd is running here at my PR1.2 Firmware just fine.

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

i have installed this app on both pr1.1 and p1.2 , both of which works perfectly on, until it stops working.

everytime i reboot my device, or even just leaving it there for a few hours, the app tends to just turn itself off.

in other words, the function of the app works when i first open it and press save.

but after a few hours, or a reboot, when i press either the proximity sensor or the camera button, no respond if given.

to fix this, i would have to go into settings, open shortcutd, press save. then it will start the cycle again.

any ideas which app might be clashing with shortcutd?

cheers

BTW grabbed shortcutd source to borrow some code and found what's obviously a typo on the first page of the proximity.cpp code.

paramVib="PatternTocuhScreen";

Just FYI. :)

Sounds like the daemon restart resets things. Question is why dameon fails or stops?

Hi everyone,

thanks for your comments, I will look into this. Sorry for not replying earlier, I'm a bit stuck atm. I will fix the problems in a week time.

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

I'm curioud about power usage, as I would like it if this did not stop running when locked but changed behaviour.

For example if media player is playing a short press of camera for skip to start of track, double press for skip previous track, long press for skip to next track.

Perhaps different behaviour again if media player is not playing.

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

It would be nice if it could detect if Sygic Mobile Maps is running and deactivate shortcutd for that time because I use it together with a holder which "presses" the camera button.

Re: [feedback request]shortcutd

Is there any plan to add a 'home screen' option for the camera button.
N900 must be the only phone without a home button to go to one of the 4 home screens.

A new version is in extras-devel. Nothing big, only new options like ctrl-shift-r and a possibility to define one custom shell command.

For more new features, source patches are welcome ;)

Now that you mention it... what bugelrex says would be nice. Switching to the desktop with one press and bringing up the dashboard when the button is held would be nice.

Mind if I give you a patch to add support for switching to the desktop when I get home?

ctrl-shift-r does not work for me
