good work, thanks a lot.
for the prime time frame settings it says in both cases "start

Thanks and Version 1.1-2 fixes the typo.

I've just installed this (the first app from devel I dare to install!) and it is excellent !

Just one thing, it would be great to be able to access the program list directly from the favourite screen. When you tap on the channel you should be able to see all the programs and not just search them.

Thanks for this nice app !!

you can see your favourite channels or programmes. Configure them first in the favourite window.
Then
  • For selecting favourite channels, just click on MY FAVOURITES in the channel drop down. All you favourite channels get automatically selected and you just need to hit go on them.
  • For selecting favourite programmes, switch mode, select channel, and in the search drop down you will find your favourite programme list.
Follow the instructions in the user guide and it will be easy.

Loving your app so had to update to the latest version. First foray into devel repository, but I had faith. Previous version was working fine, after update all programs are an hour out, any idea why.

I would also like to see selected programs highlighted but have read your reasons why this has been switched off. Would it be possible to have ticks next to selected programs or would this have the same problem. If not can you stop the programs you check info on becoming selected unless confirmed somehow.

Thanks for all your hard work, have voted on previous version, can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Have dl'd your user guide, but despite several searches still can't find the addon to unzip in file manager. Think my brain is struggling after researching and enabling devel repo :)

Baby steps, one thing at a time.

doh ! I think I might know why the programmes are 1hr out in the update but I need to get back home to confirm that :)
Ive changed the source of the UK channels from bleb.org to rytec.be since there were more channels being offered.
The latter site being in belgium might be the reason why ! Ill confirm that, and thanks very much to point that out.
If thats the case, Ill either patch to show time as (time-1hr) for region UK or I'll revert back to the old source.

I did enable the multi selection highlighting earlier and it really behaved funny, Ill see what can be done about it or if there is another way to show the selected programmes without clicking the Info button ( if thats what you meant ).

If all goes well Ill release an update today for the above programme timing for UK.
aside, did you try using the remote record ?

and finally thanks for trying/testing and voting.

Not tested remote record, not a fan of Sky.

To clarify my point about about the info button. What I meant is when I am looking through listings and I press the info button for synopsis it is selected by default and appears in my calender. I have found this does not happen if I press the clear button before returning to the listings.

Hope this helps.

The info button is different from the reminder button.
The reminder button exists between the channel and date pickers and only that should add to your N900 calendar.

The info should only be displaying details about the selected programmes.
Are you sure you pressed only the info button ?

OR by calendar if you meant it appears in your selection in the app and not the N900 calendar, then YES, thats how it works.
If you press the clear button in the programme details window it wipes your currently selected programmes but keeps your selected channels .
If you press clear in the main listings window it clears all(programmes+channels). Its all explained in the guide.

Nokia is kind enough to provide us with reflashing tools and images and a nice backup software , so you wont have to shed tears I hope :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] ....its SHOWTIME !

It is probably just me but I will try and detail what I am doing.

I start the application and select favourites/BBC1

I tap on a program and press the info button to open the program detail window to see if it interests me. If it doesn't I press the back button to return to the main listings page.

I select a program I want to be reminded of and press the reminder button.

Now when I check my calendar both programs are displayed.

The only way I have found to stop this is to delete the info in the program detail window before pressing the back button. This only works if I have not already selected any programs. I also understand you can deselect a program by tapping it a second time but without a visual notification this can be hit and miss. The only fool proof way to select multiple programs is not to click the info button,

edit; I have found out that if I use the down arrow to scroll through programmes then click the info button they are not selected.

Ok I'll try to sort out this confusion for you.
  • When you click a programme its selected. When you click it again its deselected.
Point taken, there is no visual indication as I removed the highlighting as mentioned earlier.
  • After you select programmes, when you click info all that it does is display the details of the selected programmes. There is a clear button in the programme detail window that you see after clicking info.
This clear button differs from the clear button on the main page in the fact that it will clear the selected programmes.
  • The clear button on the main window, however , clears all selected programmes and all selected channels as well and everything thats in memory, so basically you start as though you started the app fresh.

So, what you need to do in your example is,

if you selected some programmes P1, P2 and then you go back to the channel listings
and then select P3 then the list of selected programmes will be P1,P2 and P3.
So if you dont want P1,P2 you can click on P1 P2 again(to deselect them) or before selecting P3, on the programme detail window, hit clear, that will clear P1,P2 and then hit back to return to the channel list and then select P3.
Hope thats clear :).

P.S , I will try to show some visual indication of the selected programmes in the main channel listings window that should make it easier for you I understand.

cheers.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] ....its SHOWTIME !

You will recieve an update Ver1.1-3

This version has some minor changes
1. You will see a tick next to each selected programme, so you know what you have selected.
2. UK region programmes were ahead by an hour due to the data source being in Europe, it now stands corrected.
3. updated the code for a resilience scenario for the regional settings file when the network goes down.

Thanks for all the feedback again.

spoonbuddy 2010-03-02 08:31

Re: [ANNOUNCE] ....its SHOWTIME !

Brilliant :)

Thanks for changing the time issue.

And the ticks make it soooo much easier, I can now select a whole weeks viewing from each channel before pressing the reminder button.

Great work.

Suggestions for future updates:
Change 'Your Favourites' to 'Favourites'
Option to disable Record button.
Make it so the main listings page remembers your position (time) when returning from the Information window so you don't have to scroll from the top each time.
Add one of those little downloading animations on the title bar.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] ....its SHOWTIME !

When I'm changing the times in the settings to 06:00 - 05:59, the program gives me the message " no data available for this channel".
Not sure if i misunderstood the feature and doing something wrong :)
I just want it to show the movies before 00:00 and after 00:00 in the same window. I hope you have somehow understood what I would say :D

//edit: and would it be possible to refresh the complete channel list when hitting "go" and not just the actual channel ?

krk969 2010-03-02 23:48

Re: [ANNOUNCE] ....its SHOWTIME !

start time / end time are the prime time settings.
if you want to see all programmes on the day then they should be 00:00 and 23:59. Its the hour of the day :)

I didnt get the second part of the question well perhaps, but if you mean get the data for all selected channels rather than the currently selected one, then the answer is no, this has been done intentionally so we dont read too many huge xml files at once and make the application slow,

NokiaRocks 2010-03-02 23:55

Re: [ANNOUNCE] ....its SHOWTIME !

Ok, thx for your answer.

But maybe you could implement an on/off button for refreshing all favorite channels at the same time and maybe wait a few seconds until everything is refreshed. So i wouldn't need to press "go" 10 times :p

//edit: IMHO It would be better if you would still see the recent tv program when selecting "hide past listings".

spoonbuddy 2010-03-04 15:11

Not a big problem but the end times for UK programs are still an hour out.

thats not good, I'll take care of that today, you will get an update.
thanks for pointing that out.

Change 'Your Favourites' to 'Favourites' ( will aso be done )
About the download animation you had mentioned, that exists already, you will see a circular wait animation while data is being downloaded.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I dont think from the XMLTV data ( atleast most of what Ive seen) , has the category populated , so it may be not possible to identify which programmes are movies.
However I will check to see if there is some way.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the XMLTV files are pretty big to read/parse, and sometimes there are over 300 channels ! so be prepared for a long wait if we need to search for specific stuff across all channels ;)

ragesoft 2010-03-04 16:34

Re: [ANNOUNCE] ....its SHOWTIME !

sorry. i dont mean movies :) i meanmall types of programms currently playing...

it would be super, if showtime will automaticly scroll to the current time in view, so thatmi see whats up right now.

and you dont need to parse all channels, only that ones in favs or selected...
and than show "now playing" to each of this channels :)

thx for the fats reply

goog work, love it :)

I liked the idea, will see what I can do about this for a future update.
But as I said there will be a delay in parsing so many channel files ( depending on the number you have in favourites, if you have about 10 I think it should near instant something like 50 or 100 might slow it down a few seconds ).

Even NokiaRocks had given a similar suggestion to parse all favourite channels in 1 go.

Yes, it will work for any region so long as there is some place I can grab the xmltv files from.

tv_grab_na_dtv is a grabber script that creates these xmltv files.
Usually there are websites that host the output of these grabber scripts which are xmltv format, I need one such link.

for example :
http://dikkeveter.nl/mythtv/xmltv/
hosts xmltv files for netherlands , there may be more.

SchedulesDirect provides this service as I mentioned in my first post in this thread but unfortunately they charge $20 per year, Im sure there are free sites. I'll look around too.
If you can find one , I'll be happy to add the US region to the app.

Alternatively, if you are happy to generate them yourself and host it, then Im sure there will be many maemoians in the US who will be happy :D
All you need is to run that grabber script either daily/weekly and host the output on your webserver :) . I can try and help with that.

thanks.

Hi,
I've been reading up on this. Didn't know anything about XMLTV. I see how the problem evolved now. No way to run the script on the N900 and host the files on each device?

I did think of it initially, but it needs a lot of dependencies to install/configure/run also it will be pretty slow on the N900.
Besides, doing this for each region is really not maintainable , will be a lot more work involved.
Its probably much easier doing it on your desktop and hosting it for a region.
I'll try to give it more thought.

How much data would Showtime suck for an update?

if the data is weekly, then the gzipped filesize is usually arnd 600KB - 2MB.
If data is daily its about 50-150KB.
