perhaps you could have a "run and export tests" thing so people can use the info to help with problems.

Thank you! :D - thats the aim
V1 will eventually be an information machine with a few tests, but looking further down the line i'd like proper testing abilities to be added :D

when it opens the gps to get position, does it just grab current stored location, or actually lookup a new position - cos if its looking up, that was the fastest lock on record!
Its a full lock! - i have to admit out of the four options it picks the auto mode :) - i'm only dragging very little information from it though, was about 400m out from where i actually live... so good enough to prove it works :)

the camera update thing needs to be able to grab photos from both cameras.
Yup thats gotta be done, the front camera one is a bit more complicated for me though, as i need to get them to open the lens then return to the app.

one thing which niggles - the position of the system reboot button in relation to the tabs.
i misclicked when moving to another tab and rebooted.
Haha! - very good point - completely forgot about that, just put it there to fill a gap for now :D - on a good point, it works :D hehehe

Will get it moved to a safer location, and maybe add an are you sure message box :D

Ooo very good idea, hoping to be able to make another maemo meet up at some point - and would love to get some good info/feeback and ideas.

a nice tool, well done :)
Thank you for the testing time and the comments. Very much appreciated.

Probably the best way to draw this to their attention is to click on the "Report Post" button on the first post in this thread.

Another think that could been handy is somekind of cleanup script so you dont have to do it manually. :)

EDIT: missed this line: "Run commands, apt-get clean etc... ":D

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

hehehe. need to figure an easy way to run root commands though... would work on em now if i knew how too :)

Healthcheck V 0.5.1-1 - Built - includes front camera checker (Will be black if you do not have your cover open!!!)
also repositioned a few things :)

noobmonkey 2010-02-28 17:38

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

lol lcuk - button better positioned for now? :D

My next step will be saving the file from the camera's to a user selected location, not figured that out yet :) - was quite easy to implement the back camera in the end as i had already done the font one.

lcuk 2010-02-28 17:50

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

yes its better placement!
your idea of a msgbox question after pressing the reboot button was good too ;)

yeah - will try and implement that tomorrow :D - got some example code for a message box so will just use that :)

are the front and back camera buttons working ok? (Noticed the button name changes on one of those, can sort it out tomorrow too :) )

Oh, nice app idea. Could you add a simple fullscreen white plain color image, fullscreen red image, fullscreen green image, blue, etc. to test for dead pixels? Should be easy enough to implement in Qt I guess.

oooo hadn't thought about that... good idea! - havn't figured out how to do full screen yet, but that should be easy...

But alas the weekend has come and gone, and work starts tomorrow :( - so will continue playing around in the evenings :) (and hope my new pyqt book turns up this week!)

hehe not just you - other people do get it :D - I is they way i have coded it so farunfortunatley, that it calls some commands before it paints the screen.
As i said though, does seem to speed up after a few loads though... i think i'm down to about 5 seconds load and .5 of a second vanish.

Oooo intruiging....
The battery one is strange, it refuses to change at all when charging, and i'm not sure on the update interval.... can you keep an eye on it and see if it continues to mis-behave? might need to find a better way to get the result.

Good to hear the back camera works :D
The vodafone v generic firmwares are a bit annoying as there are loads of variations!

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

Yeah, I also think the battery one is strange. At best it is unreliable. Hopefully there is another way.

Yeah :( - unfortunatley limited by what the api's/dbus etc can do... if it reads wrong, the apps read wrong too :(

noobmonkey 2010-03-01 21:46

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

V 0.5.1-2 Being built now....

Ok well i've made of couple of big changes (For me anyway!) - I hope all of you lovely people understand why i have done it :P

I have removed all of the labels on tab 1 & 2!!! (Wohooooooooo!) - now using a touch selector...

Ahhhhh... but it's not quite finished...

At the moment it just chucks the information in there... thus allowing me to add extra info quickly, and not have to code loads of lines...
But hopefully very soon i can get rid of the update buttons, and just refresh the selected one :D - will work on that next!

Will also sort them out so they are grouped a bit nicer too..... (Sorry to all those who liked the percentage battery bar!)

Anyway, would still like feedback :D

noobmonkey 2010-03-01 21:50

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

Built and in extras devel :D

Version 0.5.1-3 Built and available

Sorted lists alphabetically for now
Changed icon (Hmmm not showing yet...)
tidied up code a bit ..

noobmonkey 2010-03-01 22:55

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

edit - icon shows up fine on desktop and in menu after load :)

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

Suggestion: how about an option to run fsck on each of the partitions?
Not sure if you'd have to unmount them first, might be useful to check for file errors though..?

noobmonkey 2010-03-01 23:14

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

ooo interesting idea, no idea what fsck does :P (Assuming it's like a scandisk for windows?)

JohnLF 2010-03-01 23:17

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

yes, fsck = File System ChecK

noobmonkey 2010-03-01 23:18

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

cool - will add to my todo's :D

Getting to the point in time where i can get some basic commands run :D

Re: [Annouce] HealthCheck - Hardware/System checker for the N900

Last build for the night (i promise!)

V 0.5.1.4

Added Vibration test - made the button bigger, and moved it away from the reboot button - just to make sure :D

it just does about 12 vibrates (On's then Off's - so will feel like 6)....

noobmonkey 2010-03-02 01:13

Talking of which, i cant figure out how to create a bugtracker, anyway...

is that on load? or when you try to vibrate?

Sorry my mistake, error in code :) - should now be fixed :) - new build out.

You should test your app on your device before deploying on extra-devel ;)
