Help! I possibly messed up app manager.

I was looking for battery tips. Long story short, I accidently input: lshal in the command line and pressed enter. The output from this accidental command said: Dumped 96 devices from Global Device List.

All lshal does is list things - it has absolutely zero chance of affecting App Manager.

How can I restore the Application Manager functionality? Thanks to all, Marty :o and :(

Your /etc/apt/preferences file is invalid. From the looks of it you have empty lines between the "Package" and "Pin" details.

You can't install it - there's not a version of Flash 10.1 been made available for the N900. There's an app (Tweak Flah Plugin Version) which allows you to tweak the flash version reported by the N900, which makes a number of sites work.

Try this one [http://maemo.org/packages/view/appinstaller/]

go to application manager disabled all application category let App. Manager update....wait and enabled all of it back.

X-term try "apt-get update" again.

manual install up on your "LUCK" like install .. NitDroid.

Yeah, there's a bug in the libsmpeg0 post-install script. Try doing "mkdir /usr/share/doc/libsmpeg0" then rerunning the install.

Re: can't install some apps(or update)

I'm getting a lot of "failed install" messages.

I just reflashed w/ the October build of 1.2 (my OSK got lost somehow), and I totally forgot to backup settings and all, so I'm installing everything from scratch.

The problem is, I can't install apps that I had running fine before the flash (and that I use everyday!).

Here are the messages complete for two

Much thanks to anyone who can help me get this sorted out. It's fun to tweak the N900 but it's no fun when things arbitrarily go wrong!

I wonder if this thread should be unstickied, or at least a new one started. The original posts are about the problems with Qt prior to PR1.2 back in April, when the auto-builder was updated weeks before the consumer release. Any problems people are having now will be of a different nature.

Python should be very important. It's an interpreted programming language and you'll need it for a lot applications. I would highly suggest that you don't remove python

Re: can't install some apps(or update)

i assume you reboot already....
did you try to uninstall it and then install again.

or try something like:
Code:

root
apt-get autoremove
apt-get autoclean

or just run simple upgrade:
with root
Code:

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

ive been dealing with a lot of updating issues as well. conflicting software and the like. will these commands "clean" the device of the conflicts? what exactly do the commands accomplish?

thanks

That's odd - it works perfectly well for me.

Anyway, here's the info from there:

Re: can't install some apps(or update)

hi all. i didn't want to start new thread for my problem, so im asking here. so, i tried to install stargus and i have the orig. CD but i copied its content in wrong place (n900/starcraft) instead of (n900/mydocs/starcraft) and the installation failed. now, when i go to faster application manager and try to install stargust i get the error message wich says: none of the packages can be installed. i think it is installed but corrupted and when i go to remove applications tab, i cant see stargus but it is in my phone menu. i also tried removing it with xterminal but it asks password and i don't remember setting any passwords. is this some global masterpassword for stopping noobs(like me ;) ) doing stupid things with xterminal?

Re: can't install some apps(or update)

Hi,
I'm stuck with installing/update my application. The log from FAM looks like this:
Code:

--- 2011-04-18 12:54:09 ---
/usr/bin/apt-get -qsy --allow-unauthenticated -o Dir::Etc::sourcelist=/opt/fapman-cache/sources.list -o Dir::State::lists=/opt/fapman-cache/lists -o Dir::Etc::sourceparts="" --auto-remove install cal-home-widget
--- 2011-04-18 12:54:14 ---
Output from last process:
---
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
qgvdial: Depends: libmosquitto (>= 0.9.3) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

So I did `apt-get -f install' as root, and this is the output:

Code:

Anyone can help me with this? Now I can't use FAM or built-in App Manager to update/install.

That's very odd - looks like the application files have been deleted even though it's not been uninstalled (have you deleted things manually, had corruption on the /home filesystem, or anything like that?). I'd suggest doing:
Code:

sudo gainroot
mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/qgvdial.prerm /root
apt-get -f install

If that works, you can remove the /root/qgvdial.prerm file, otherwise move it back to /var/lib/dpkg/info.
