rachol, the same thing!
What I did:
1) uninstalled program, installed the latest build
2) rebooted
3) opened keyboard - nothing happend
4) wrote sms to my friend and sent it, got delivery-confirmation
5) at this moment (I think, it is at the moment of sms-confirmation) GPS starts, phone asks for access-point and sms with GPS comes.

Please, fix it!
I repeated the steps, with delivery confirmation enabled and all settings, even password same as yours. I can't notice such behaviour. Every functionality worked.

Maybe those messages were somewhere in the air? (Maybe they have been sent when you activated reporting previously and got stuck somewhere in the network) Just a guess...

Quasar 2010-04-18 15:05

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

rachol, could not it be because of the specific format of delivery-confirmations of my operator?
I can repeat this situation every time I enable confirmations. So it is not because of some old sms, that I didn't got...

I had another option enabled (I forgot it to mention in my previous post):
Activate only sms reporting - Call me!
Please, try this too!

But I've deleted this option, it doesn't matter by me...when every confirmation pop-ups, programm starts sending information...((

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Hmm... I have to check this out, but as I wrote before I can't repeat that problem... I will try to debug it a little...

Quasar 2010-04-18 15:16

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Hmmm...it is not possible to change "Text message activationg only sms reports". If I delete text there, it occurs again next time.

rachol 2010-04-18 15:30

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Yes, I have made a check, that does not allow to overwrite with empty string, I just fixed it in my version.

After I solve your problem with delivery confirmation, I will upload it to the garage

NEW UPDATE AVAILABLE

Thanks to Quasar a delivery confirmation bug has been fixed. In case of empty Start SMS and Start Mail "passwords" it has been starting sms reports every time you got message delivery report.

New version available in the same place:

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Everything worked perfect for me. I was playing with the profits of the configure and unconfigure program, until suddenly ... I can't enter to the configuration screen, and believe me I've never change the word "Config" to start the process.

Now for more than send the SMS with the word "Config" I can not get into the main screen.

Help?

rachol 2010-04-18 16:15

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

you might have entered wrong number in the field when it says:

*Accept text messages only from following number:

Edit:
I will update new version most probably later at night. You will be able to see configuration wizard after installation, update, upgrade. You will be just prompted for the "config pass" you have configured earlier. So you will not have to send "Config" sms all the time to change configuration, just reinstall the app.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

I reboot my N900 and now It works fine... SMS "Config" let me enter to main screen...

Sorry, don't know whats happened

Really really nice app Rachol, and thanks for the help...

By the way, I used to send a SMS with "Config" to enter to the configuration screen.... It is the only way to do it?

I actually run 0.1.3 version...

Hi,

Just wanted to ask...

Any problems with the application (version 0.1.3) so far?

Seems to very stable to me and free of bugs...

Anyone with latest version found some problems? I would like to know it is working fine, before implementing more stuff in it.

Quasar 2010-04-18 20:05

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Bug I have already mentioned: it is not allowed to enter emails with '-'.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

I very much appreciate your work on this application, rachol. however, it being security related and all, I feel it should be open source. (I have read your previous statement about this.)

please take this as positive criticism and a vote towards open-sourcing. ;)

rachol 2010-04-18 21:31

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

I don't say "no" for it being open sourced, but first I have to make such implementation, that is safe enough to be open sourced :) however for this day it is not safe yet enough, so I will keep it closed source. I just mind your security, belive me.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Btw. I am looking for someone experienced in packaging and uploading projects do extras-devel. I have never uploaded anything to extras-devel so it might take some time for me to work it out.

I have send a request for an invitation for uploading to extras-devel, but I have not received any yet. It has been now for almost 24 hours. Anyone has any idea what I should do about it?

KUDOS TO YOU rachol. I've been waiting for an app like this on the N900 for a while as I dont do any programming myself. Downloaded it yesterday and tested it out...Stellar Application!!! Already recommended it to two others. Look forward to further development of this app.

Sidenote: I'm waiting for someone to attempt to steal my baby. So I can find them and hurt them

It should monitor the motion sensor and the charging status and after a threshold of movement or time without charging the phone should start to play an alarm sound as loud as it can.
This could be handy if you are travelling and you have to leave your phone unattended for a while (but near by) and someone wants to steal it or check out information on the phone.

Don't you think this could fit in your application?

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Also, is this app being developed using Qt? If not would you consider doing so as MeeGo is coming and I'm sure anyone wanting to migrate to the early MeeGo builds would not want to leave such an app behind.

I have developed with Qt as much as it was possible :)

Well, might be an option some day, but I have an experience, that if something is for everything, then usually it sucks at everything :D

It sounds like a good idea for some, but it should be a separate application in my opinion.

Will all the respect to your amazing work, personally I find installing one application in my device (which has plenty of personal info) that I don't know all the thing it does (e.g. might easily include a keylogger or other data collection mechanism) less safe than exposing the code to the scrutiny of hackers.

I feel very bad that I cannot help you by testing you nice application.
Hope I can continue later in the future. That is, I hope you reach soon the point you can release the code.

Thank you again for your time.

If I would like to do just that, I would create a "fart" kind of application, I would upload it straight to the extras-devel, I would not ask anyone's opinions, I would not have my name shown in the garage projects, I would not spend 18 hours a day coding stuff and discussing with you all how to make it better.

Beside, on other platforms you don't have open source stuff, every possible app may have a keylogger.

I promise though, to release the code, when it is SAFE and I won't change my decision until then.

rachol 2010-04-19 00:25

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Btw. One of the users has found out a bug in the first version of the software. Setting all the passwords to the same text, would make it unusable in one way.

I have spent few hours to figure out how to fix the configuration he has specified in settings... finally I asked for his IMEI number and I have build a separate package that would run only on his device, so he can change the settings and update to newer version without this bug.

Do you really think I would put so much work to create a key logger? And destroy all my reputation I gain by hard work? No way I would ever do it.

Sorry, I got maybe to emotional... :)

Don't take it as an attack to you or your application. Just stated my personal opinion.
Wish I had a second device to use it in helping you. The one I have unfortunately I need to use it also for work so it has sensitive data and can't take any risk.

Since you promise to release the code, I promise to donate 30$ when this happens. I like very much what I saw in the few hours that I tried you early version. Hope others can contribute too.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

quick question to your code:
Code:

gst-launch v4l2src device=/dev/video0 num-buffers=1 ! dspjpegenc ! filesink location=/home/user/back.jpg
Does that work even if the dsp is active, for example when playing music (the 'dspjpegenc' part)?

The easiest way: open in web-browser on N900 link, that gave rachol. You have to find the latest version, click on the deb-package, web-browser will ask you, if you want to save it, or open. Choose open.

Have you successfully installed gstreamer-tools? I don't remember, but I think the exact name is gstreamer-tools1.0 or something like this.

Sorry for my English.
