My response from another thread

Holy crap , I just registered to post here cause im about to bite on this. 280$ rebate plus 23$ for my E61i? I think im a new member of this community.

I've been sitting on the fence seen the N900 on sale for 350$ but 200$ im down
Hope I dont get screwed on the "while supplies last" part

EDIT: Ok I jumped in, the 280$ coupon (n900280) thing is input after u sign up for the flip-swap (trade in site) thing and choose what phones your sending in the coupon worked and it bumped up my trade in value by 280$. It just tells me to send my "Proof of Purchase" which according to nokia is the shipping confirmation.

I guess when I'll recieve my N900 i'll send my E61i with the proof of purchase and get some money back (hope it works)

LoL! thats exactly same thing happened to my debit card from citi bank, I had to call them to lift the restriction. Anyway, like everybody else this $199 deal was so tempting I jumped in, and card didn't go through and..... I was saved lol. I changed my mind after reading all these rebate issues which I never tried before so didn't want to risk my money for this rebate.

I hope those who ordered get their rebates.

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

Wow... I can't believe Nokia is letting "Nokia USA" still handle things for them. This is the same mess that happened with the initial N900 ordering stuff, and I once again went through the ringer on it...

I figured, for $200, having a spare would be really nice. Plus then I could have one stable device for every day use, and one for hacking on. Tried to place my order, and it rejected (and my cell beeped with a "Fraud alert text" from my card company). I then figured I'd use my Amex, which is what I'd used before. Surely they would be ok with it, since I just did this a year ago... And they were, but the website said they weren't.

So I called Nokia to order it via phone instead. After 15 minutes wait, I got a sale rep. I told him what had happened, and he forwarded me to "support". Twenty minutes later someone there answers and tells me that the system had rejected both, but she's not sure why. So, I said lets start fresh, and just place a new order, simple, right?

No. Apparently since I "tried multiple times" (multiple being 2 apparently), as their webpage told me to do, the system had locked me out. And the only way they have of unlocking it is to send an e-mail to their support folks, which could take up to a week. I asked to speak to a manager...

Twenty more minutes on hold, and the "manager" comes on the line. She has no more authority to do anything than the underling. The system has locked me out, and they have not way to deal with it other than to escalate it via e-mail. And even if I call sales, I can't order a phone, because it's all tracked by name and phone number, which must match exactly the number on record for the credit card I'm using to purchase with (and all mine point to one phone number).

So in short: Avoid the online order system. It always fails. Though, to be honest, I'm not sure the sales folks are doing anything more than typing into the same web page, since they seem powerless to do anything else.

In the end, I wasted an hour and a half of my life trying to order a backup phone, and have zip to show for it. Except of course for the grand in holds on my two cards, which they assure me will disappear within the next 3 to 5 business days. (Which tells me the cards were fine with it, and the failure was on their end....)

And Nokia wonders why they can't sell phones in the US?

Back and gone again.

LOL, it´s funny that the only way to view order status is to "log in to your account on nokiausa.com. However when I do it says that I´ve got no placed orders..................oh Nokia.... all I wanted was to get the tracking number of the order you say you shipped to me a couple of days ago.

While NokiaUSA appear to be out of stok again, if you didn't buy it, and they get more stock, and bring back the deal, click the trade up tab on the web page. This will take you to the flipswap site (nokia.flipswap.com). You can search for your phones & see their value before you go ahead with the purchase.

Beware Nokia's payment processing systems! My bank did the same thing back in November 2009 and apparently I've been blacklisted by Nokia since.

Three cards, none work via their system and theirs only. Which sucks because I wanted to buy the Angry Birds level packs.

I am curious if anyone else received confirmation that the sale went through and then a notification that the phone shipped but there has been no action on the card.

i am a little concerned about that.

It might've come up as "telephone retail services."
But hey, I wouldn't complain if I were you. Getting your already cheap N900 for free? Sounds pretty great to me.

In other news, mine has arrived, and the rebate seems pretty foolproof. Also, I think this is the best device I've ever owned.

Ah yes, nokiausa.com.

I was among the many "victims" of the nokiausa on-line rollout fiasco last fall. In spite of the amazing deal a sympathetic call center rep gave me at the time ($485 after numerous discounts), I got sick of their system flagging me and canceling my orders and went with another retailer (it's not a deal if they won't let your cc go through, right?).

But, like a sucker/lemming who never learns his lesson I bit on this deal--a potentially free n900 put me on notice. I figured that the worst that could happen is that NokiaUSA would find a way to cancel my order: and since I already have a n900, no harm no foul.

It looks like NokiaUSA were up to their usual shenanigans with my order switching between various statuses, with the order disappearing and reappearing again at one point. So, they finally got around to e-mailing my shipping notice, which was quite amusing since the FedEx guy showed up with my package three days ago. As someone mentioned earlier, it's no wonder that Nokia has lost most of their share in the US, it's almost as though they are going out of their way to avoid selling to you!

Anyway, I've been too busy to play around with it, but there does seem to be a couple of very minor hardware changes on my new one compared to the one that I received in early December. Perhaps I'll post something in the "Hardware Revision" thread if the changes are interesting enough...

same here, ordered a second one cuz it was just too tempting :D
and then a few days after it actually shipped i got two emails from Nokia saying "order processed" or something stupid. what the hell is going on? lol, but I got it in the mail, havent opened my new box yet... i keep thinking if someone else here really wants it but missed out on the deal ill resell to them...

so tempting to just open and OC it and see how far I can get stable... mine now is stable up to 950 with default voltage... but i keep at 900 with default, for my own reasons :D

id be VERY interested in hearing about the hardware revisions... that you are imagining :D :D

Like I said, the changes seem very minor. As others have mentioned, the N900s manufactured this summer now have a grippier matte finish to the keyboard. Other than that I haven't played around with it, so I don't know...

Yep. Talked to them today - first day I've had free since I initially called - and they said it was over as of September 1st, 1am or so.

The gentleman I had talked to was the same from the last time; however he was unable to assist me in even purchasing one at all.

Oh well. When I decided to buy one for myself, I cannot.

Re: Nokia n900 for $199 from NokiaUSA

I really don't get that part. I signed up for the "trade up", and have 60 days to send in the old one with the shipping number/info. So I figured I'd call NokiaUSA and order one, so if does get stock in the next couple months I can get my rebate and a spare N900, right? Wrong. They won't let you place an order because they have no stock. Really? I can't even get in line to give you money if you get them?

How is this franchise still in business? Does Nokia proper (not the NokiaUSA franchise) know what a crappy job their primary US sales group is doing? Why they are still allowing this operator to be their primary franchise after the mess they caused with numerous device launches is beyond me. The company I work for has cut off franchises for much less in order to retain our brand integrity. Apparently Nokia doesn't care about how it looks to the US market at all. :P

I decided to be proactive about my rebate, so when asking a question to a flipswap support person, I also attempted to confirm that I will be getting $280 back. The first message's $280 segment was not acknowledged by the support guy. After sending the second message about the $280 rebate I got a reply saying there is no such $280 rebate showing on my account, and that I am not scheduled to receive any rebate amount... wtf...

I've gotten all the way to Inspected, and it shows them as owing me $295. (I had a $15 trade in phone as well). I've gotten no check or anything from them yet. I'm still waiting, but I just sent in a support question.

I started a dispute at my bank on this thing. Flipswap has told me that my rebate $280 is verified and the check should have been issued 20th of September, then delayed by Nokia, and 2 days ago I received a message from flipswap again that Nokia had approved the rebate and the check should be printed on the 5th. Nothing since then and no updates on the flipswap webpage. Still shows as "Inspected".

My bank is digging into this and I´m not going to call them off until I´ve cashed the flipswap check and it checks out ok. This is taking ridiculously long.

That sucks. I just got this back from a flipswap support person:

"To enter the promotion on one of our Flipswap trade-in orders, you had to enter a promotion code when you created a trade-in order. This would apply the rebate credit to the order. There was no promo code entered, so there was no rebate credit attached to this order. This is reflected on your order, which you can review for confirmation. There is nothing regarding a rebate on your order.

I am sorry, but you did not use the promotion correctly to qualify for the rebate.

Kind regards,"

Not quite sure what to write back without getting too nasty. Flipswap and Nokia aren't that closely related, right? Who should I be making my angry phone call to?

I entered the n900280 code when ordering from NokiaUSA. I don't remember anything about entering a promo code on the flipswap site, I just remember sending in phones for recycling with a proof of purchase from the new n900 purchase. Good thing I asked two separate nokiausa employees over the phone on what exactly to do to get my rebate, if it comes down to it hopefully they will review the phone calls.

Does anyone happen to have a screenshot of the promotion or details? I took one, "just in case", and now I can't find it. I started this thread , please comment in there if you have copies of the promo or details...

By the way, how did you start the process with your bank? I've never done such a thing before, but might need to.

It differs between banks but most of them have pages to click on to to file disputes on the overview over your credit account.

Sometimes by clicking on the exact transaction, sometimes by a general link.

You had to enter this code n900280 in the field where you also entered the model number of the phone you were trading in.

On your flipswap statement it to mail in this would appear as:
- The phone you are trading
- The amount given back for that phone + $280

I´m sure that they won´t acknowledge one name on the flipswap paper and one on the Nokia USA order. Otherwise I´d give you one unsubmtted flipswap transaction paper that I have. I made 3 since I wasn´t sure which phone I wanted to send them and which I wanted to sell on eBay.

$479 list price - $280 trade-in value = $199 for a new n900

*EDIT*

$199 is the maximum price for the n900. They'll also give you the value of your phone. E.g. If you have a n97 mini they'll give you an extra $100 ontop of the $280 dropping the final price of the n900 to $24.
