Adobe has an partial or complete update available and are happy to sell it to Nokia. Nokia has already bought the previous version and that's what's on the spec sheets. They won't be buying another, they have no obligation to give you more than you originally paid for, and they may even hope that Adobe decides just to release what they've made anyway. Either way, that's hardly firmware and would more than likely be announced as a separate upgrade instead of as a firmware fix. |

I always suspected you were here under false pretences, now you've exposed yourself in truth by falsely identifying yourself as Manuel. I understand that you expected I must have had top level inside information from Steve Jobs to discover it, but it was just down to your questionable acting skills. So, proof positive. Which ttly confirms Hara's identity. |

Either way, the N8 is not the same as the N900.. Something about the N900 still draws my attention over the N8.. It maybe the hardware-keyboard or the 'open-ness' of the OS... :) |
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
I just think the N900 is better looking than the N8.
You know, like a natural, chubby but cute girl dressed in a nice black outfit, versus a fashion model, tall and weird looking and dressed in the weirdest dresses that money can buy. So news about the N900 is clearly more wonderful than the N8 unboxing. |
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
ou thats great... then I can save my money to buy a new phone... when the release come soon , the N900 will be the only nice dual boot system on this globe :)

Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
Isn't the N900 already a nice dual boot system, if you install one of the bootloaders available?
|
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
I hope they decide on Burg as a boot loader

Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
The Nokia Blog have received this statement from Nokia:
The Nokia N900 is used as development hardware for platform developers working with MeeGo on ARM hardware architecture. While the software from the MeeGo project runs on the Nokia N900 for development purposes, Nokia does not intend to provide a dual-boot OS option to consumers in upcoming N900 commercial software releases as we want to ensure that we provide the best possible experience designed for that device. The meego.com blog post was primarily targeted to the audience reading the blog: MeeGo developers. Hmmmm... oh well... we'll just have to do it the difficult way then. ;) |
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
Finally...
some faith restored in Nokia.. didn't take much now did it? |
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
I would hope that Nokia is aware that the primary part of the audience of that blog is in fact N900 owners. I do fear they underestimate us.

* Flash a bootloader to kernel area. * Write a MeeGo image to microsd. * If microsd is inserted at boot, MeeGo starts * If not, Maemo starts. .. is that easy enough? |

They might not update the internal bugtracker until a release is ready, or they might have altered the builtin app so much, that it's not relevant anymore, or whatever. We'll see it when the update gets here. |

Wait... I hate to ask - I've scanned this entire thread which has grown from the first few pages to 14 by now... but has something been officially stated - other than the fact that Nokia won't be adding dual-boot for consumers - that I've somehow missed?
Feel free to slam me with some links and knowledge. |

For guys who suggest merging this post and PR 1.3 speculations post:
you have absolutely every right to request so, but this post is not about PR 1.3 It's about our N900 not being dead and about some promising future for this unique device. If I understand correctly, Stskeeps is one of the developers and I would like to thank him, his teammates and involved community members for doing this job for the rest of us. |

To me PR releases are to address bugs in the form of fixes / patches etc, maybe upgrade the kernel for future proofing and again bugfixes and maybe just maybe add *some* new features I would be happy with more portrait support (selectable) for some of the apps and tagging of items in app manager (I know there is faster app manager which I now use) and a few other bits n bobs |

Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
I am reading that the dual boott is coming but not for the consumers. What does it mean exactly? That I am not allowed to install Meego on N900?
Some people is allowed and some is not? |
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
it might mean that there's an upgrade only option for non-developers.
but then, how are the installations going to be controlled anyway? |
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
best news i had since i broke up with my girl friend, don't get me wrong i like having more than one OS ;) .
ok ok ok, pr1.3 is coming people, a changelog would be great now, i hope they put some of the software tweaks the awesome people here worked hard for, matan's and mAG's modified hildon desktop and home, maybe some cool fast transitions like the black plastic ones, more than 4 homescreens, the swappolube changes,.... really the guys here did one hell of a job and we shouldn.t just forget it . now back to the point, well.... i have to say thank you nokia, i was defently going for another than nokia phone for my next phone, no i'm not gonna leave nokia for good, well i guess we didn't understand what nokia ment with 'we won't be supporting the n900 with meego' , they ment we will guive meego, and we will pay a meego team to port it on your n900, just make sure we aren't responsible for anything that might happens, well i'm very fine with that (i already overclocked, tweaked every file and..... ). pr1.3 is what i love to have, i know that the n900 felt like having a fresh ui after pr1.2, so some bug fixes, a new ovi store, (maybe ovi maps, no flash, we will get it in meego or froyo !), maybe a better video capture, some things that can make the n900 even faster , if thats possible . people get ready to be spoiled with **** loads of awesome official apps, get ready to taste the mobile future (meego), we can proudly say that we have the best phone in the world, all the android ishits and.... can look up to us, as always.....! just one advice to nokia, make sure you have some phones in stock, because people wants to taste meego, or if you got a full portrait mode... |
Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
Flash 10.1 might buy from ovi store. This might only way to get flash for N900.
N900 is developer hardware. Best joke.:D |

Re: Some wonderful news considering N900, MeeGo, PR 1.3 and other good stuff
Anyone can "dual boot"(boot without any effect to the already installed Maemo 5) MeeGo right now on your N900 if you want, but it isn't in a condition where end users would expect their OS to be.. hence "for developers".
To dual boot MeeGo now, you have to connect the phone to a computer with a USB cable and temporarily load the kernel when you want to boot MeeGo. "Easily dual boot" will remove the need for this. Some people might've had the idea that when your PR1.3 OTA update is installed, you're greeted with a fancy menu asking which OS to boot. No, MeeGo isn't included in PR1.3. Anyone(developer or not) can get an image and kernel from meego.com and try it, but it's not something the PR1.3 update does for you. It doesn't happen automatically, or with just a couple of clicks as "consumers" might expect. |
