There's no pausing available atm. I'm working on an internal media player, which will have that feature, among others. Currently, I'm just passing the video URL to the media player. I have no control over how it is played.

There is already an desktop icon for cuteTube. You may need to reboot to see it. The icon is nothing special, but I will get round to improving it, along with those on the home window and 'my account' window (any contributions from GIMP/Photoshop wizards are welcome ;) ).

download the deb from the first post rename it to cute and save it to mydocs.then go xterm and
sudo gainroot then
cd MyDocs then
dpkg -i cute.deb

That's what I've been saying all along this thread: the OpenMAX H/W decoder can't handle more than 720x576 pixel resolution and that N900 simply does not have the CPU to decode higher resolution video in software. So, what was your point?

Yay, i fixed the loggin into my youtube account problem earlier today, it was a clash with my email, i hadn't merged my gmail and youtube accounts...once i did that, BAM!! It logged into my account.
The only problem now is as sum1 mentioned earlier, sum vids buffer every few secs and pausing stops the buffering so u cant even wait for it to load to enjoy the whole vid, the only option wud b to dl and then play...

Thanks for this nice app.
I'd like to be able to choose kmplayer as a backend, like in MyTube.
Kmplayer allows to choose mplayer, mediaplayer or gstreamer, and has nice on screen controls for aspect ratio and zooming.

signing in my account is an issue. Still says, unable to login, check the login details. Can it be because of email address i am entering is also added in Nokia Messaging. Can there be any conflict because of that? Shall i install full python qt4 and then try?

I'm also suffering from login problems, so I researched it a little.

I have an old youtube account A and an old gmail account A@gmail.com. they were originally not connected. I can't log in with that account regardless if it's connected or not. I tried all possible combinations with usernames and A's youtube password and A@gmail.com's password. Nothing works.

I registered a new youtube account, B with the email C@asdf.com that account worked fine in cutetube.

Then I created a new youtube account D from an existing gmail account, E@gmail.com. This one also works.

Now here's the spooky part:
I disconnected A from A@gmail.com, and changed the email for A to C@asdf.com. First I couldn't log in, but when I changed the password for A to the same as B's password, suddenly I could log in as A. If I change the password to something else I can't login anymore.

So that's my take is that if you have an old youtube account with a password and connect it to a google account with a different password, it won't work. As with most things in life, I blame google.

(come to think of it I haven't tried disconnecting A, changeing password to same as A@gmail.com and then reconnecting. That might work. I'll get back to you on that)

the app is very nice btw. :)

Edit: Yusss! It worked. So if you're having trouble logging in, one solution might be to unlink your youtube and google account, change the password to the same as you google account and then relink the youtube and google accounts. At least that worked for me.

Thanks for that helpful post. I would never have worked that out for myself, because my accounts were connected when I created them, so I have never experienced any authentication issues. I will link to your post, so hopefully I don't need to go digging into the YouTube API. :D

i got it to work finally. Basically i had to link my youtube and gmail accounts for cutetube to sign me in. I kept saying no to connecting the two but oh well. Then use gmail username and password and it should sign you in. Connecting your youtube account with gmail might be a compulsory step for security purposes.

great app btw. Many congratulations to the developer. Simple interface with great feature set. Easily the best youtube app for n900

That was the problem with the signing issue. I finally managed to get connected. I think that cuteTube needs your youtube account to be linked with gmail otherwise you ll get an error when you try to sign in.

It's down to the YouTube API and how it performs the programmatic login. All cuteTube can do is supply the email address and password (the username is used only for reference).

I installed the app from extras-dev using home Wifi. I have MPlayer installed.
I was able to open the app, but login,upload and favourites buttons are disabled. I am able to login to youtube in microb browser with my google account.
I was able to search the videos in cutetube, but on clicking play it doesnt play.
On click of save, it creates folders in the path i configured. But i could see only an thumb image and an 1KB info file created.

Can you please help? Thanks for the much needed app.

You must be talking about a different application (maybe MyTube?). cuteTube is not in extras-devel yet. I'll be uploading it later.

That should be easy enough, but I have very little experience with DBus. I'll do some research and implement it as soon as I can. :)

EDIT: OK. I found out how to do it. I should be able include it before I upload to extras-devel later. I'm also going to add support for KMPlayer.

I have actually changed that feed to 'most popular', rather that 'most viewed', for the next build.

Also, I can confirm automatic data connection and support for KMPlayer in the next build.

The package "python-gdata" is already available in Fremantle Extras, so you don't need to ship it with your app :)

I will consider the option to download as MP3, but if I implement every feature request, then I could end up with the software equivalent of the car designed by Homer Simpson.

ahh i noticed the icon this morning :rolleyes: shoulda thought to reboot.

I can understand the lack of control over the default media player for buffering, pretty amazed that youre working on a media player for it too, but it makes sense, with it this would become one of the most popular n900 apps . . . very ... very nice work, you should probably get a paypal donation link sorted so that people can show their appreciation.

EDIT: download audio as mp3 would be a very nice feature but then again id love it if it would make my breakfast and fetch my slippers too ;)

Great program. Best Youtube app for N900 so far. But why is it limited to only 30 something videos for each section. Like for example, i have over 50 uploaded videos, but i can only view 30 of them....? Is there is forward page button so you can continue to see more videos?

There is a 'More..' button in the menu which appends more results to the list. The default number of results returned by the YouTube API is 25, but it can be increased to 50. Of course, it is possible to get as many results as you want using a loop, but I chose to stick to 25 for performance reasons, and allow the user to obtain more results as desired using the 'More..' button.

P.S. cuteTube is in the autobuilder queue now, so it should be in extras-devel soon. :)

Just updated this awesome app through the application manager. So far, so good, but when I click on the icon, cuteTube just opens and closes on its own after couple of seconds. In other words, after the update, it stopped working. Restarting the phone did not fix the problem. Anyway, keep it up, your work is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, sorry about that. I missed out #!/usr/bin/env python from the cutetube.py file.

EDIT: Oops. I must have forgot to set the permissions on cutetube.py. I'll have to upload a new build again. :D

I've been having problems with the filesystem on my N900. The permissions are set incorrectly on the cutetube.py file, so it won't launch. I'm sorting it out now. :)
