Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
hope it works for you, but...
the same kind of solution worked for me for about 3 or 4 days and then the problem came back and would not go away no matter what i did. |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
Hey,
The problem came back after a while so i guess my previously posted 'solution' is not a solution after all. :( |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
After sending my N900 back to Vodafone and they then sent it on to Nokia, I receive a parcel back yesterday with a note saying "Due to the nature of the fault with your phone, it will not be possible to repair it within a reasonable timescale. We have therefore replaced it with a similar phone that has been carefully serviced and refurbished by our repair centre." The word "similar" really worried me. I thought they have sent me an N8 or E7. But, in fact, they have sent me a hardly used N900 that looks brand new. Mine was slightly worn from use, and the black on the keys was starting to rub off. This new N900 still has the brand new "matt black" look. They also sent me another battery, but forgot the back door cover, so they are now sending me a door. So I have done pretty well out of it. Really pleased. Now to get modding again.

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
got my phone back from palco telecom today. despite including a thorough explanation of the problem and even supplying the url to this thread i got back a sheet of paper with "here's what you told us was wrong: none supplied" "here's what we did to fix it: connectivity - problems with short range connectivity eg bluetooth, ir, wlan, cable, video". needless to say they didnt fix the issue. "after repair, your unit passed a series of tests and an inspection to make sure everything was working normally".
im pretty sure this is the same company that fixes in warranty problems in the united states as well? this would be my third instance of supplying precise information on what the issue was and them not addressing it. i had a slide flex cable go out in warranty so i sent it in and got it back with the proximity sensor not working so i sent it back. got it back with the same problem. ended up taking it apart and after reassembling the proximity sensor ended up working correctly. ill report back after i get a chance to speak with them. |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
i can replicate it conistently every time.
connect to tmobile internet, enter address in web browser, sim area goes blank, sim icon with red slash appears, goes blank, goes back to 3g. |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
Entering address causes pressure on the case. You could also try place the n900 on a table and press the middle of the keyboard, wait 5-10S and see if sim icon gets crossed out.
Also try pinching device by the middle of the keyboard. |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
mother****ing palco. so i call them up and they give me a free ups two day label to ship it back to them so they can re-repair it. i got it back today and the same letter as before. its even worse now!! when it has the white dots loading screen it gives me the all telephony functions have failed and it sits and hangs.
|
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
awesome! its giving me the error and hanging at the dots even without a sim.

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
I'm suffering the same fu***** error, on a year and a month old n900. I can't believe Nokia made a 1 year life smartphone. I feel cheated and robbed. I suppose there is no news about a simple solution to us, mortals out of hardware business and hitech know how. Mine is under warranty, but I would prefer if I don't have to begin the dance between a silly tech service, some ignorants Vodafone`s vendors and my angriness.

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
+1 for that issue.
Started about a month ago, got more frequent. Changed the sim card for a new one - no help Tried reflashing it several times. Helped for a day or so, then the problems returned. Yesterday my phone would give this error just right after reboot. So now my n900 is a fancy gps with some multimedia capability. BTW has anyone really discovered already whats the issue here? |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
Good job on reviving not one but two old threads and without enough information for any helper to work with.
You have yet to provide: - Any softwares you have downloaded and used. - Any overclocking, if so to what extent was the modification. - Any dual/multibooting (i.e. with nitdroid/meego) - Hardware revision of your device. - If the device was exposed to extreme environments (i.e. dropped into water, dropped onto floor several times, dirty/dusty environments whilst back cover is not on the device, constantly replacing/removing of SIM card). |

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
after calling palco they agreed to replace the mainboard as i was apparently still in warranty. i noticed calls made in my call log and when i talked to them they said they were able to successfully make calls and were unable to replicate the problem with both a tmobile sim and att. now i have a new main board and sim problem is gone but now it randomly reboots cat /proc/bootreason says sw_rst. reflashed firmware and emmc and issue doesnt go away :(

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
I'm in the same boat now, my N900 started complaining, cleaning the SIM helped for a while but yesterday it started to drop again. :(

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
I have exactly the same problem and I can't even get into Settings - My Nokia (It comes uo with Internal Error Application 'Settings' Closed)to give you the serial number ?
I've tried my wife's sim card on the same contract and exactly the same error message. Everything else like email over wifi and apps are working fine is purely then sim signal and connection ? Frommemory is on PR 1.3 and been working fine up until today, it's not clocked and I haven't downloaded anything that might conincide with the fault - any ideas Quote:

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
Hi, I'm new here .
i have the same problem and some unauthorized Nokia repair service told me you have to pay about $50 for RPL Request from Nokia because of no IMEI ! Is this anything to do with the RPL ? |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
So a little update.
I reflashed my device in good hopes with pr 1.3, but still got the error. Then after reading this thread, just applied a little pressure to the upper right area under the battery where supposedly the gsm modem is situated. After reboot, no more error. So this is a hardware issue for me atleast. my phones HW type is RX-51. Tired of carrying my old C6-00 which is a poor substitute for my n900, so I guess, I have to carry around two. 1 for fiddling around and one for calling. Edit Tried to reproduce the issue, and I can say that, it happens from regular use, while holding the device in two hands and opening the keyboard, then applying only a little pressure from both sides, can easily make this HW defect reappear and after some more handling disappear again. So a cold solder joint or worn out contacts somewhere. Pity, that I do not have the equipment to attempt to resolder the modem part. |

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
I have already posted in this thread with this problem. My handset was replaced by Nokia for a new one. Now I have the exact same problem with this handset. So goodbye to my amazing N900 (bar the problems) and goodbye to this forum. It's been great, with some very clever and helpful people.

Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
Great news, worked for me,:D , last whole week i was frustrated and reading many threads and information on this issue. In my case i can say its not at all a hardware problem. It was problem of my laptop with Windows 7 which was not flashing my n900 properly.
Starting form the beginning, one day my phone suddenly started a loop of rebooting. then i tried to reflash the device (not eMMC Image) (i.e. flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f). My phone atleast stopped rebooting but i end up with another problem of No Connection to service provider. I tried to reflash 2-3 times more but same problem, then i realized that i was flashing with windows 7 and the process of reflash was not completing properly (it used to complete in 2-3 seconds don't know how) and since i was not using "-R" in the script my N900 was not restarting on its own. and if I restart it was showing an error "All telephony....". finally I tried from my Office laptop which has windows xp and in the first attampt it showed me "flashed successfully" (not sure about the message after completion of reflash, coz i did not bother about the message that time). and when i booted n900 it started without any error. :) one more important thing, while flashing i forgot to insert my sim card. so when i tried restarting with sim card, there was no error. I hope my experience would surely help some one. I love my N900 :). |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
This may not be the exact problem, but it may help a few people either way...
I had an issue with my n900 that was solved here regarding my signal dropping intermittently. If you take off the back panel (phone face down), the plastic panel to the left houses the aerial. If you take that off, underneath is two little prongs. You can bend these upwards a little fairly safely and replace the aerial. In my case, the aerial wasn't secured down properly. Solution for me was to place a small piece of blu-tac underneath the top left corner of the battery cover to ensure extra pressure was being applied to the aerial and the connectors underneath. Sorry if I've missed the point - I haven't read the whole thread, just the last few posts which talked about pressure being applied, and it was this same pressure that actually fixed the signal issues for me when the signal was dropping intermittently. Happy Christmas, S |

I can't take a picture as am at work and my N900 is he only camera around, however, I this post will help: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80339 The GSM Antenna is in red. It is the underneath of that piece of plastic that you can access the pins that I bent up and I placed the packing material right on top of where is says "GSM" in that picture. Let me know how you get on! |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
Im having the same issue, it first started 2 days ago, when a reboot would fix it, but by now i cant get it to boot up with working communication at all..
I tried applying pressure to the sim with some shims and also tried applying pressure to the antenna, but nothing works.. hopefully warrenty will cover it.. |
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
My first n900 had to go back to nokia to be replaced because of this problem. Now, my replacement has developed the same fault. Wrote a snotty email to nokia. They have told me they will sort it out one way or another. Seems to be quite a common problem, especially when the phone starts to get old. Very annoying.
|
Re: all telephony functions ... are disabled due to a communication error - anyone else experiencing this?
My N900 had its motherboard replaced last year, now it has done the same again. Problem is it is now just out of warrenty, they do not want to know. Replacement parts 'should' be replaced if faulty. What is with Nokia not helping people with a known problem on a good mobile, they are soon going to loose peoples respect and then wonder why.
