probably not high priority for everybody, but it would be nice if this could be integrated into a future CSSU release

No, again, it uses MAFW.

Keep in mind MAFW's actually open source and both this and the stock player can receive gapless playback if someone's up for patching it.

Kinda ironic that it can't play arabic songs don't you think? :P

I've been digging through mafw's code, and stumbled across this in the changelog:
* Disable native flags in playbin2 temporarily since this is causing
trouble with some videos. Also, allow videos with resolution
up to 848x576.
* Changed highest resolution for fremantle

So I'm guessing that limit can be removed, unfortunately, grepping for 848 returns no results, so I'll have to look where it's limited.

really no arabic music support ??? i'm embaraced i didn't notice, maybe because lately i've been so into miistry of sound, what can i say, i have the soul of a clubber :D

no in mu understanding, thats the video playback resolution right ?? so we might get 720p playback, i'm now gonna sit arround asking for it, i know your doing your best, THANK YOU man, we are very lucky to have aming us .

Don't hold your breath, playng 720p will need dsp 720p codecs (from android maybe), which will require new dspbridge kernel module and new gstreamer plugins (gst-dsp or openmax). Reason is HW acceleration. Playng 720p using CPU is a nogo by me. Hope I am wrong.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Feature suggestion.
I think someone mention it earlyer but push for this too.
Well, a searchbar or a button to show the searchbar in portraitmode.
By having access to a searchbar you can tap on it and the you can add text to it with for example FastSMSevo.
That would be nice. I mean Scrolling throu alot of artists or album takes time.

two more things
1. in stock media player, left/right changed songs and space paused/played(iirc)
2. the previous button should restart the song on single press and go back on double press

And it wont show any details of bands with these letters:

Just some empty albums without icon (only visible when clicking):

When I click "Shuffle songs" (1/1 unkown):

When I click a invisible album it loads forever:

There is also some flicking on some of the album covers.

Repeat one track . . . maybe an option in next release?

I actually want to implement this, but if I do, then it'll only work when the mediaplayer is open.

Ad. 2. - And wasn't it more like: if we're at first 3 seconds of song -> go back one song, if not -> go to the beginning of current song? This behaviour should also be easier to implement.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

it would be awesome you can use mplayer as backend instead of the stock video player
cuz the stock media player lags in some avi files
and when I use smplayer for example these videos run very smooth, with any lag
Any chance? MohammadaG
Anyway I love it C=

Sorry fot my english xD

Sounds good! I never use the player in the background. It's an app and the n900 is multitasking, no problem! Can't wait for the update!

Thanks so far! Great work!

Any chance you could make the font colour(s) in open media player reflect the font colour settings in theme customizer please? The stock media does this currently

1 Attachment(s)
Very good work! I've been waiting this for a long time, thanks!
There are a very little problem with the encoding in the fmtx ui (view attachment)
There are no problem with the fmtx ui in the system settings window, the bug is only with omp.

One question, how can we translate the app? (in French)

Bye

Sorry if someone already answered that question... if I install this player, it will substitute the default player or I still will have boths?

Thanks!

Use the instructions on this post

But ignore this section if you don't want to replace the stock player!

To "replace" the stock player (if you don't want to do that, use the script below).
Place the binary in /usr/local/bin/
Code:

nano /usr/share/dbus-1/services/com.nokia.mediaplayer.service
Change /usr/bin/mediaplayer to /usr/local/bin/mediaplayer, note that this will cause mime_open to stop working until implemented.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Been using OMP regularly -- portrait view is nice to have in tandem with the portrait-mode open applications view.

Might be a bug, or just an unimplemented feature: when playing video, touching the TrashCan icon didn't do anything. In the stock player this opens a Delete File dialog.

If you did the change

Than to revert you should open console and type (I don't like nano... Please install leafpad from application manager before typing it into console if you don't have it in your system) :
1. gain root
Code:

sudo gainroot
2. edit file (this is one command)
Code:

leafpad /usr/share/dbus-1/services/com.nokia.mediaplayer.service
and make sure the third (last) line looks like this:
Quote:

Exec=/usr/bin/mediaplayer
If you also want to have both Media Player and Open Media Player installed in the system (but use MP as main media player and have OMP just as additional option in applications menu), type this commands in this order into terminal:
1. You have to have wget installed, so:
Code:

apt-get install wget
2. You need to download file from MohammadAG (this text below is one command, someone should seriously do something with CODE box formatting on this site!:P)
Code:

wget http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/maemo/install_mediaplayer.sh
3. Make it executable
Code:

chmod +x install_mediaplayer.sh
4. Run it to do everything for you - don't thank me, thank MohammadAG
Code:

./install_mediaplayer.sh --desktop-file
And that's it, now you should see Open Media Player icon in apps menu, but also Media Player icon and files should be opened in Media Player by default (you may need to reboot your phone afterwards, I don't know, because I'm not using either MP or OMP too much). And honestly, if you couldn't figure it out yourself, you should preferably wait few more weeks untill stable releases of CSSU and OMP are released ;)

If you really messed up somewhere, just apt-get --reinstall install mediaplayer to get the stock player back again

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Will the ability to lock the media player in portrait mode be an option in a future update?
I dont know if its been posted but I think I found a bug with the FM transmitter. When I try click on the option to turn it on the media player goes away but the music keeps playing. It does this in portrait or landscape.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

i have ~user/MyDocs/Podcasts excluded with tracker.cfg. pressing play from gPodder brings up OMP but the item does not play. is there a connection with tracker-exclusion or is this something else?

edit: ahh so this is the mime_open thing? put stock player back in dbus service and that works.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

i really like open player its easy to use. except making playlist.
kinda prefering the sound quality of someplayer.

though OMP have replace it for the last week
though replacing nokia media player, breaks cutetube-QML streaming.

Playing video will not rotate. Also when playing video in portrait, the screen output only shows a small portion of the video.
