Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Hi, love the premise and appreciate the work you've put in. Sadly (for reasons of which I'm happy to accept are probably my own - being an end-user for all my well meaning attempts to get to grips with the inner workings of this marvellous machine) it's not working for me.
I think it all went wonky when I deleted all the preset categories, wanting to intuitively work my way back up, as it were. Despite creating new categories, sub-categories, moving apps around, refreshing, rebooting I'm stuck with the original hildon menu, except now it's doubled up - I have twice as many apps, or rather, duplicates of each. Furthermore, no categories I create are appearing, and in the GUI of CatorisePLUS the landscape value is about 5 times too wide for my screen resulting in me having to scroll for millenia to see which app I've selected to place in a category I can't make exist. I've had a little whisk through this thread, but i've not noticed anyone having this problem. Any ideas on what i've done to ruin your app? :P |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
I had some trouble getting Catorise Plus to work but it is working well for me now. (Latest version.)
I am running CSSU and power kernel. The first time I *changed* existing categories and after finishing all my customizations discovered that somehow Application Manager was trashed. The application menu had gone, replaced by a message "No applications installed", and no shortcuts on my desktop worked (existing ones or new ones). However the applications themselves seemed to be working as the desktop widgets were working normally and I could open some applications that way, I just couldn't open any application using shortcuts. I used <shift><ctrl> <x> to bring up terminal (I had no other way of doing it) and uninstalled Catorise Plus. The application menu reappeared and all my shortcuts were functioning again. I tried installing Catorise Plus again and this time left all existing categories alone. I simply added new ones for the ones I wanted, and didn't modify or delete any existing ones. It isn't necessary to delete any as if there is an unused category it simply doesn't appear on the application menu. Now I have just the application menu categories I want and all my applications launch from the categories I have designated. All is smooth and good. The application is still rather buggy, then. I would recommend not touching existing categories when you install Catorise Plus. Just add the ones you need; the others will be ignored if you make sure they are empty. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Finally figured it out - you can just put programs in the 'All' category if you don't want them appearing in other categories....

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
After doing just a few operations it starts to get horribly slow, just about unusable :(
(i got a shitload of stuff installed, that's probably a factor) edit:seems mostly the issue happens when creating subfolders (sorry it took so long to post this edit) |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Apparently some firmwares don't have perl-modules installed by default. Since I thought they did, Catorise doesn't depend on it.
So, if you install it manually you should be good to go. Alternatively, apt-get install catorise in X Terminal should give you more info. |

apt-get install perl-modules will fix that.

i'm using a bnw wallpaper on my n900 i'm not using blur if the menu appears, so the carorise's white icons/text labels in some places on the picture, not visible i want to add some black shadow to the menu icons and labels is this possible? and how? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
How do you arrange or sort categories? For example, sort category by alphabetical order or just customize yourself.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
I have the same question, i.e. how to sort/rearrange the categories in the main menu. Namely, I added one category and renamed another one, and now they're positioned at the end of the main "menu".
Also, how can app icons be refreshed? Sometimes the icon of a newly installed app is just some default rectangular icon (also, the same now applies to the two categories mentioned above). Is there some icon-cache reset or something like that? (This is probably not Catorise Plus related, as I've encountered it before.) |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Hi,
I installed the latest version Catorise. There was no division of icons in the menu, but they are still unsorted. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, but still behaves the same. Is there any possibility to sort the icons in the menu? Thank you |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Restarting did indeed solve the category icons. However, some of the app icons (an issue from before) remained unchanged.
One more thing... do categories need to be named in "ai_category_SomeName" format? I see the default names are in this format, but when I added another one in this format, it would be literally called that way in the main menu. So I only entered the proper name later on. Also, two categories (one that was created by me, and another one that I renamed) are at the end of the main menu. How can I fix this? Is it related to "ai_category_SomeName" format? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
I've added an icon for Octave but the item doesn't seem to want to appear in Catorise Plus. it does shows up properly in the "All" category (outside of Catorise) when browsing the applications though. My .desktop file (in /usr/share/applications/hildon/) is as follows:
Code:
[Desktop Entry] Also, as far as I've understood Catorise is supposed to read the "Categories" key (if available) and categorise it accordingly, is that correct? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
I had the same problem, and tried to solved it without desinstalling, but no chance. But with desinstall, it worked for me.
sudo apt-get remove catoriseplus sudo rm -R /opt/catorise sudo apt-get install catoriseplus Maybe you might want to copy your /opt/catorise in /opt/catoriseback |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Sorry to bring back to life this very old thread, but does someone know what is the command executed when hitting the save button on the Catorise Plus GUI?
It doesn't work for me, I mean the changes made aren't taken into account, and I blame the sudoers file, as I've made some changes to always ask for a password (except a few cases). I created a catorise rule which says to not ask a password for /opt/catorise/catorise and if I execute that command with sudo, the changes made in Catorise Plus GUI are taken into account. So I presume that the save button from the GUI is executing another command to refresh the menu. So what is that command so I can add it to the sudoers file. Thanks. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
Thanks for the info.
So I suppose that I can't add that command into a sudoers file so that a password won't be asked (meaning the command will be executed properly) when Catorise Plus tries to refresh the menu. Now a password is asked when executing the root command, and I prefer it that way. If there is no easy way to achieve what I want I will just have to manually execute "sudo /opt/catorise/catorise" after making the changes in Catorise Plus GUI (not that often) and saving them (it seems to work this way, but it is not "ideal"). |

If you would like to use the sudoers file you could point in the source to a script which you put in the sudoers file or start catorise as root. Btw there is another root command when you make a new category. Some picture will be copied. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Catorise PLUS - create your menu like you want
So simplest solution would be to create a (sh) script to call catorise gui and on finishing call your sudo command.
And put this script into the desktop file to start from menu. ? |
