New callerxui v0.0.5 is available for download http://maemo.org/packages/view/callerxui/, which is a Callerx User Interface which control and manage the block lists and settings for callerx. It works independently so it doesn't affect the callerx daemon performance in anyway. Though when you install callerxui, you will install callerx as well, and those already had callerx installed, callerxui will automatically update callerx to the latest version which is compatible with it. If you don't need the user interface, you can just install callerx and manage your setting and blocklists manually just like the old version. I am too tired to write long post now, I'll update the first post of later.

Those in countries which has the prefix + sign show up, callerx will remove the + automatically, so you don't need to enter the + in front of phone number in blocklist.

enter "unknown" in the blocklist no longer work, there's a setting for that in the settings menu.

Duh, answering my own post instead of editing it. It must be a long day.

Those who doesn't use callerxui have to edit /home/user/.config/callerx/callerx.conf manually to block unknown number. ( add a line "blockunknown=true" ).

Definitely a must-have program. Even, if You don't need to block anyone right now - like me - (except lotteries : ) ), it's better to have it ready, for when the need arise.

Can i tell me exactly what you did which caused the program to exit? Because, the program does check for the exist file in the list list when first fired up and only show the list which has file exist. Unless you delete the very last one, which you shouldn't. The program assume there's always one list active, if you want to delete that one, you need to add a new one first then make the new one as active one then delete the old one.

Yes , the blocking text file is created to memory card , then i removed it . tried callerx but the program exit when i clicked the blocklist text file. so i assumed it because i removed the blocking text file .. might be good idea to place warring message instead exiting about the file been removed or not found and point the user to create new one ..

2- inbound calls list .. Can i call the number back by just clicking the number .

It exited out cuz it assume the active file is always there without checking the active one, I'll implement more thorough error checking on next update!.

Good idea on ability to call back by clicking on the number in inbound calls list, it's easy to implement so it will be on the next update.

Anymore ideas are welcome, so i can implement them all at once, and move on to my next app. :)

Thanks for this excellent app, but I'd like to recommend you to keep it simple. Not many features, just let this great app do what it is intended to: block calls!

for me yes, the callerx daemon is just enough, can't say for anyone else, people always want more until their n900 won't be able to run :).

callerx daemon which run on its own in background and is very small and fast to handle screening and blocking function. The callerxui is an accessory and doesn't affect the performance of daemon, it is destroyed when closed. It's a totally different app, which happens to be able to communicate with callerx daemon.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but ...

Does this only block voice calls or will it also block SMS text messages? I keep getting annoying text messages (belong to previous owner of my mobile phone number). Since I'm cheap and using prepaid SIM, it costs me every time I get a bogus text.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

It was answered many times before - it blocks *only* calls. Also, it may sound off-topic, but why You pay for sms received? 0_o

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

because on eastcoast you pay to recieve txt msgs or incoming calls, i dont know why i have to pay to recieve but thats the way it is here and the rest of the world is free to get incoming msgs and calls.

Even if you use a program to 'block' text msgs you'd have to pay for them since your N900 would recive them, though you wouldn't get notification and they would get deleted instantly. I think you're better off just getting a new prepaid sim.
Why it works like that in the US? Because operators can have lower prices on txt msges and calls while keeping the same profit, looks better on a sheet yet you pay the same. They are coining it mate.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

this is a great application for N900
may i suggest a few things and i would love to have a reply on that pls.

if we could notice that if we block some number, how do we know if there was a call made from that number? there could be a notification or something like that only when you receive a call ( notification ) from a blocked number,so that you could count how many times that person called ya? ( notification again ) ;p ;p
can there be an option included for the whole country numbers to block? i am angry with my GF and she is in canada ,so i just want to block all calls from canada, how do i do that ?
could we have set another command other than that ( the person you are calling is busy at the moment ) ? as it could be ( the number you trying to reach is not available ) ( the phone is powered off ) ( number is out of service ) etc ?

This application literally reject calls, as soon as blacklisted call shows up (if there is no lag for swap trashing, etc - in such rare situations, you may see/hear blocked call for a while). So, calls are already in Your "last calls" list, as rejected.

As for second questions, there is no userspace way to fool mobile operator, that it "thinks" Your phone is out of GSM reach (turned off, or out of range). Same apply for "busy" (on conversation). All you can get is "call rejected".

To be honest, it was asked and answered many times in this not-so-long thread ;)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

any chance that this can be timed using alarmed? i remember i had on my symbian phone advanced call manager in which there was a white list and a black list, and they could be switched depending on the time of the day.

so let's say that you do a white list with all the contacts that you want to be called from (let's say friends and family) and that goes from 7pm to 7am, and any number which is not in the list will be automatically rejected....

any chance? it's really the app that i most miss from the symbian... but i see that is getting there

don't think it's actually that hard basically just to compare the number calling against the list of contacts in a white list and if there will be allowed, if not will be rejected.. but i'm not a coder guys

Estel 2011-10-29 21:48

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

I remember exactly same idea popping up, or even being realized - someone wanted to use whitelist during night (to allow his relatives contact him, but no one else), and blacklist during day. Unfortunately, I can't be more specific right now - You might browse through this thread, find it, and ask one that posted this if he succeed.

If it was not posted here, unfortunately, I'm no help, cause I can't seem to find it using forum search.

Still, it's nice idea, so, if it's not possible right now, or possible only using complicated mechanism, it would be great to add it into this great program :) So, +1 for OP consideration.

/Estel

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

Firstly thank you for this great app.

Found that in the latest version, unknown numbers are not blocked without installing the GUI.
Even after editing the /.config to "true" as post 121
Also the true would go back to "false" after a reboot.

All seems to be working now with callerx and callerxui installed together.

It is normal for blocked calls showing up in the missed calls in the phone app, and it does sometimes appear as a yellow message box missed called and blinking notification light if the phone under heavy load.

is it possible that the callerx and callerx-ui installation brings sound degradation when recieving or making any call?
i have it installed as long with cssu testing and kp50..works really well its purpose but when i make or recieve a call people complain that they dont hear me well..i didnt have this problem before..but could be a coincidence..

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

I don't have such a problem with CallerX, using it from day one. Currently I'm using latest CSSU testing and KP49.

I was wondering if there is any community effort (not necessarily here) to list out spam callers of USA. I hate to pick up calls from automated systems.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

How about using a SQLite database for the numbers?

In HK there is already a community based "black list" - www.hkjunkcall.com, thinking of writing a simple tool to pull the list and save it in database to use.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Callerx -- Call Blocker in QT

Is the maintainer of this application still around?

I have not had any issue with these applications other than this!
The package Callerx is in testing with 5/6 votes. However the GUI "Callerxui" is only in devel and can't be voted on.

Can we get both into testing and start to get them through QA?

Callerx has now been promoted to extras.
Callerxui is finally in testing, please QA and vote.
I have had no problems with either (see post 151).

Hi, I hope it's OOT, but is it possible to make callerx silent the phone (set silent profile) instead of hang up?

hi
should be done on every reboot command:
