Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

Hello,

I've just updated my n950, and every seems to work. Just one curiosity. Yesterday I was be able to copy & paste from my application (wallet) and the browser. This morning (after device restart) I try to do the same and it didn't work!

anybody with same problem? is copy&paste really working?

Just noticed, in the calendar it is not possible to put an entry which is earlier of 1/1/1960.

The update is quite well made. I was expecting things to fall into pieces and spend million of hours fixing stuff, but knock wood, all is solid.

I've backed up manually also the cities folder and I have all my maps right away.

Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

Images are no longer showing in items added to the event feed. I get the same result using both DBus and MEventFeed. Worked fine in PR1.1.

EDIT: Sorted it. It seems that setting the video argument to true causes a problem in PR1.2. No big deal as it all it does is overlay an image indicating that it's a video.

Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

The issue with MeeScan and the missing dependency (libdmtx0) seems now to have been fixed.

When the application closes after a swipe down there is a creepy low sound. In the beginning I thought it was me making a strange nasal sound.

No one mentioned about background colors as it was on leaked images. Is that option available on PR 1.2..!? [fingers crossed]

Good comments, but lack of formatting made your message really annoying to read.

Also there's a bug tracker that you can use to give feedback directly to Nokia developers. https://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/ At least they might answer "not going to happen" and you can stop waiting :)

This sounds handy, I already use FR with PC and Picasa.

Is the functionality easily portable (QT) to Symbian btw. Or is it wishfull thinking at best?

I haven't updated as I'm waiting for open mode, so I tought asking a friend to download the packages in 1.2 repo and send them to me, when I told him to do apt-get --reinstall install -d wxapp he said that it doesn't work, it returns "reinstalation not possible, cannot download", this is a big problem for me, if someone founds a work around to install new features of 1.2 in 1.1 please share them.

There was at least an effort to maintain common QT API for face recognition (or, as I tried to push, generic feature recognition and association API with face/contacts being concrete example). I hope it has made to Symbian -- they were using the same algorithms already and API commonolization was part of our (ground) work.

Said that, I have no idea how far did it go.

That's going to be inconvenient once I get my time machine in order :D

Does this only apply to the calendar (as in appointments) or to the calendar control and will limit all programs that use it (test: can you enter a birthdate before 1960?)

When I got my hands on the Lumia, it tried what's the min/max year range.
Min: 1600
Max: 3000
See, its "better" (probably just in this single regard, though :D).

Think of any other things I might've missed? Sound off let us know! You never know it could be implemented just from reading that lucky post.

Much easier to read now, some of those srsly should be submitted as enhancement requests or bug reports.
Of course check 1st that it hasn't already been done, we don't want to create unnecessary noise for the devs.
Just pick eight enhancements, bugs, or both that you think are the most critical, maybe even whittle them down.

Thanks. I don't mean to sound lazy but it's getting tiring submitting bugs for this phone. Is there a way I can just refer them to that post? Who knows maybe they might end up reading it, or they already have.:)

Re: [Announce] Harmattan 1.2 beta now available as OCF for Nokia N950

Doubtful, they've got their head deep in code...
The only way they'll consider bugs or enhancements they're not aware of, is if they're shoved in their face.
And with bugs they need you to capture data/logs as it's happening, or at least know how to reproduce it.
There's probably other ways to get your msg across, but that's the most effective way that I'm aware of.

It is currently so hard to read thru this thread... Thanks a lot for all this informations. But I'm working at the moment on my next big project and need every weekend the Debugger on my N950. :(
Does somebody know when the next Qt SDK with the support for Harmattan PR1.2 will be released?

Does anybody notice there are some serious slowdowns with some apps?
Like the "Zones" lockscreen app (the one with the bubbles)
also QuasarMX, which isn't working fluent anymore.

Another thing I notice is the videos (480p) that I have downloaded with CuteTube, won't play with Open Video Player. It crashes immediately upon tapping on the videos. It does work with the default player though...

A nice feature I also notice that when you swipe down to close an app, it will fade out. So this way, you will know it will close instead of minimizing it.

I went to the post and I was going to vote, but once I read I must say I have mixed feelings.
1) How many times you are closing all of your apps? I would be pissed off if all open apps would disappear by mistaken gesture
2) Everyone is waiting for it, no doubt
3) Drive is optimized for use when driving, there is no point in consoliding this two apps. Load time could bu improved though
4) "I want faster, do it faster" - it's not that easy, see: WebKit version updated
5) Personally i like very much N9 VKB, and Swype is outstanding
7) I think lock screen place would be best, because for me there is no space in event feed for it
8) Go to settings->device->display->display time-out->set to 3mins
9) The purpose of lock screen is to lock the device, you know. So I would not like many buttons there, and if they would make big buttons for media playing at the lock screen I will fill a bug
10) This is the correct way. Imagine someone important is calling you and you accidentally dismiss the call by taking your phone in the pocket. I would be definitely pissed off.
11) It will be nice to see it
12) Same here, very useful
14) There is an app for it already
16) Up, even text files are loading very long

I think there are many better things we can come up with. And if we want to fill bugs like this one it will be terrible. I am developer and personally it looks like child screaming. Bugs/feature requests should not cause additional difficulties like this one.

I hate to say this, but creating a bug report with 17 different issues and suggestions is probably the best way for it to be ignored and not taken seriously.

You should have created individual reports for each suggestion, that way they can be considered individually, updated with feedback and closed/progressed without any confusion. Other users can also vote for individual enhancements.

It's impossible to progress a bug that is discussing 17 different issues.

Edit:

I must admit I stopped reading the bug once I realised it was just a long list of issues and suggestions (I actually gave up on your original post too due to the wall of text formatting! :)) If you know it's not how it's meant to be done, I don't understand why you didn't do it the right way - your bug is not going to be taken seriously so don't be surprised if it gets knocked on the head Resolved/Invalid because it's impossible to do anything else meaningful with it.

Is there possibly an option in Music to "continue playback" as opposed to "start from beginning?" That would greatly enhance the Music App's usability for podcasts.

The only settings related to the Music application are 'Show recommendations' (on/off) and 'Dolby Headphone' (on/off). There are no references to anything podcast/audiobook related within the Music application. Whatever it is that Nokia have added, I don't think anyone will be giving up gPodder just yet. :)

If you press-and-hold on text, the start/end markers appear. At this point, you can drag either of the markers. When dragging the markers, the magnifier appears and the text between them is highlighted. You can then select 'copy' from the popup.

AFAIK, the lockscreen music controls can be used only for the stock Music application. There is no API for third-party applications.

I haven't tested Open Video Player with PR1.2, but when testing cuteTube (which also uses QML Video element) with PR1.2 I found that playing the 480p YouTube videos causes a segfault if the aspect ratio is 16:9. The output is

Code:

map_buffer: buffer not aligned: 0x41bec5a0-0x41cb6da0
map_buffer: buffer not aligned: 0x41bec5a0-0x41cb6da0
map_buffer: buffer not aligned: 0x41bec5a0-0x41cb6da0
map_buffer: buffer not aligned: 0x41bec5a0-0x41cb6da0
virtual uchar* QGStreamerGLTextureBuffer::map(QAbstractVideoBuffer::MapMode, int*, int*) acquire-frame failed 0
Segmentation fault

I think now I have no choice but to use the stock video player for downloaded videos in cuteTube. The story of the QML Video element just goes from bad to worse. It's unusable in Symbian, far from perfect in Maemo5, and now I find that, quite apart from the terrible scaling issues (which seem to have improved somewhat in PR1.2), it is now unstable in Harmattan.

The 'Manage applications' button works the same as before. The only differences are that it's now a push button, and the dark theme is used for the application manager.

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/8...2200824.th.png

Some screenshots of the folder creation process:

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/5...2200515.th.png http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/7...2200532.th.png http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/816...2201641.th.png http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/3...2201838.th.png

Applications are added to folder using drag/drop. You can remove an application from a folder by first opening the folder, then dragging the application outside of the folder. The icon will then reappear in the main application list. The only limitation is that applications can only be added to a single folder. I suppose you could overcome this by creating a duplicate desktop file with a different filename.

Hey thanx man! So what U saying that U can only create one folder for Apps, you can't like create one for games, one for Bookmarks etc? That would suck!

Any improvements to the FB client? Currently it's buggy, sometimes when U delete messages they don't disappear etc...

Ayt that makes sense, I doubt I'd want to place the same App in different folders....

Does installing this update delete our current Apps? The current one deleted mine.....
