Yes you are correct in what BtInput does, the default N9 bluetooth interface doesn't support HID devices for some ridiculous reason..

I look forward to seeing what you can do with the NFC sticker as well, it's promising although theoretical for the moment. And I look forward to reading your report on the housing you built. :)

Apparently its been shipped today! I just finished my training for the Olympics job, so I got some more free time :)

By the way, the NUU Minikey clicks are really loud. I find them to be too loud actually, it would be impossible to use it during a conference or a meeting, it's too clicky (sounds like a mechanical blue cherry switch keyboard!). I think the keyboard of the N900 was just clicky enough, the sound was very well balanced. I'm still trying to figure out how to tell my N9 that the keyboard is an AZERTY. No success yet.

Yeah it is slightly loud, im sure it'll get softer over time, TBH it feels solid which is why I like it, its hardly ever COMPLETELY quiet in areas even conferences so some clicking wont be that noticeable :P

Any news here? :]

I look eagerly forward to hearing more about this keyboard holder and your project to set an automated pairing system with ProfileMatic.

No problem, I was just asking. You're still around there and that means the project is not dead. :)

I wish you a swift recovery.

Too bad they don't broadcast it here in France (well, actually I'm in Scotland currently, but hey).

The paralympics are not broadcasted worldwide on public channels, no. :o There are probably some streaming links though.

Isn't he Belgian? Anyway, you'll soon have four years for giving your thoughts about the case/keyboard holder, I can't wait! :D

Re: Project N955 - Turn your N9 into a 'N950'!

This may make the N955 an even more interesting prospect:

http://www.sw-box.com/kiBoard-2nd-Ge...gn=%20kiboard2

combines the bluetooth keyboard in the OP, with a battery charger. From what I can see, the charge to port (from ac/dc to keyboard) is at the top in relation to an n9, and the charge out port (from battery to n9) is at the bottom.

If this could be swapped around, this could definitely be an interesting candidate, as it includes the inbuilt charging battery, unsure what capacity though.

Re: Project N955 - Turn your N9 into a 'N950'!

Hi there.

I just ordered sliding keyboard and 2 cases for n9.

Going to fit keyboard in second casing and trying to make it look more like a single device instead of "some keyboard attached the phone"

I just checked your youtube video, and only thing that disturbed me was the virtual keyboard.

Does anybody know the way to disable it? On n950 it doesn't appear if the keyboard is open, so there probarly should be some way to disable.

Best thing would be to be able to disable it in landscape mode, or when the bluetooth keyboard is connected, but disabling it completely would also be great, but limiting the usability to the landscape mode.

Download MesInput and install the "Empty for VNC" keyboard :)

It makes it only one row with Enter and stuff :)

I am so happy in making my own hwkb! It is very sturdy for now, although the case and the slider was connected with tape :/ But hey, It works, and it works great!

Front: Fully open.
http://i.imgur.com/Ss229.jpg
Side: Fully open.
http://i.imgur.com/3Knyt.jpg
Side: closed. It isn't as thick as it looks.

Back: Notice how i used tape to secure it (The rest of the tapes are in between the case and the slider, to make it cleaner and secure, I guess? :P)

What do you think?

PS: I'm not allow to drill :/ which is really bizzare, but I'm happy with what I got :)

Well, I'm not an adult :/ The problem I have with the keyboard though is that I have to reconnect everytime the keyboard goes to 'sleep'. Any fixes for this?

Re: Project N955 - Turn your N9 into a 'N950'!

I'm working through a similar project. First ensure it is paired via btinput, then once paired with btinput, pair it through the device settings like you'd pair any normal bluetooth device. thats how i fixed my issue.

If you can't drill, is that electric? You can get handpowered drills which should be more than enough, its how I did my holes.

damn, i really wish nokia released a real n9 with keyboard. One strong point from the N9 is the design and this looks awfully ugly...no ofense, it is a good work, but not as beautiful as the normal N9

@storm_11 when I connect with Bluetooth normally, the keys don't work, they only work when I pair through btinput. Can we somehow integrate btinput with the bluetooth settings though?

I'd like to report something. Apparently whenever I'm in power saving mode, the keyboard stays connected and never disconnects.

If this works out, I will make it publicly available for everyone

I wonder, how much people would accept to pay for metal variant (including slider mechanism, etc) of project here?

/Estel

// Edit

I'm asking, as it looks super-easy to do using my CNC machine, and, if demand would be high, I could do it, using it as a way of speeding up financing N900's full body replacement project.

I.e. creating metal version of projects that you already did, guys, wouldn't take me for too longs from my main project, and, at the same time, boost finances for it.

I think, that people would also benefit much - metal slider and case should be much more durable, not to mention possibility of using thinner parts here and there (unable to be print by 3D printers, due to construction stability issues, but easy for CNC mill).

WTF does that have to do with anything?!?
  • what does using a bluetooth keyboard for the N9 have to do with N900 casing?
  • independently of his objective with that post (come to that in a moment) he obviously has no clue what he is talking about... the whole point of those hardware keyboard casings being in plastic is that you can easily fit in the N9 and that it remains in place
that does not make any sense with metal parts...
  • is the guy actually phishing the Community to pay for his CNC device, whatever that is ?

for your information...

So has anybody tried the casing (http://www.sculpteo.com/en/design/nu...-n9-4/RvwLdWwH) and NUU keyboard?
Is it nice?
Instead of iPhone keyboard and a regular hard casing?
And how can we remove the VKB when writing sms and ect.?

I tried the casing, seeing as I designed it :P

It was a nice case, could be a little bit of a smoother material BUT the phone did fit and the case did attach onto the NUU Minikey :)

The experience was a bit crap due to the non reconnect ability of the N9 and to reduce the VKB download MesInput and find the VKB for VLC layout which is greatly reduced :)

I just ordered a n9 new in the box from a local supplier. I know it's old tech these days but I don't have the budget for the latest and greatest.

I've seen the phone out in the wild, played with it, and loved it. So I expect to be very happy with it for a few years. My one concern is the lack of a physical keyboard. I haven't had a keyboardless phone since I snagging an original android G1 release.

I read this thread with a great deal of interest. I think I can handle the physical modding elements, but I'm concerned about the communication between the phone and the keyboard.

Anyone have a definitive answer on a slider and keyboard that works seamlessly with the n9? The above sounds like the Nuu Minikey has reconnect issues. Is my impression of this correct?

The original Boxwave keyboard (I think?) reconnected okay but doesn't have a backlit keyboard.

Is there a slide out iPhone 4 keyboard (or perhaps did the Lumia ever get one?) that works well enough for this modding project that you can depend on it for everyday use?

That's nice, I think, I will do it too.

godofwar424 2013-07-07 13:21

Re: Project N955 - Turn your N9 into a 'N950'!

Right as a followup. This was designed for the NUU MiniKey.

http://www.sculpteo.com/en/design/nu...-n9-4/RvwLdWwH

I have changed the material to the newer polished plastics as the grainy plastic used before wasn't very nice to touch or look at. This holds the device snugly but the material flexes a bit to get the device in and out :)

If there are any people with a 3D Printer themselves who would like me to try and find the original design file, PM me, and respect my wishes not to release the designs publicly.

Sculpteo are the people I used as they shipped fast and was nicely done, no room to save money on 3d printing atm, maybe somebody who owns a printer could print for the community at a reduced cost ect. PM Me if you are interested in printing this design on your own printer..
