thp the update keeps failing with the error that the package downloaded has an error try re-downloading... i think its cuz of the version numbers...firefox had the same error as the store says update to v13 but the package didnt change the package number frlm v12. when i try to install the update by going to /var/cache/apt/archives/partial and click on the v1.0.2 billboard the installation screen shows v1.0.1


Edit: finally it got updated...uninstalled it and reinstalled...thanks for the great app thp

I had a different experience. The upgrade went smoothly and when I clicked on Help/About it shows v1.02.

I wonder if it is possible to display rds information from the fm radio app in the standby screen. Is there a (public) api for this?

You can write a script (see the about dialog for information on how to integrate a script) or set the text in /apps/billboard/text (GConf).

I'm aware of the scripting capabilities of your app. However I don't see how to collect the rds information from the fm app.

dbus-monitor shows the following output. Is it possible to capture this output with a script. And if, can anybody give me a hint on how to do this?

First of all, I would like to thank thp for this beautiful application.

Now, I have a little problem getting {network-name!foo} to work: when the phone is not connected to any network, the application correctly displays "foo", but if I connect to a network, it doesn't show anything.

Using {network-name} everything works fine (it correctly displays the network name). Does anybody have the same problem?

Is it working fine with PR 1.3? I don't seem to get the display correct. Instead of

For all PR1.3 users (I've just upgraded as well):
  • Upgrade to PR1.3
  • Uninstall Billboard
  • Re-install Billboard

This will fix the customizations to the CSS file. You can also do it manually without uninstalling/re-installing it (the "cp" command is all one line):

My lock screen is very dim, I am pretty sure it used to be brighter. I can't figure out how it got that way. I tried uninstalling Billboard and LPMC but it still dims to ~50% when I look the phone. Is this an option in N9 Quick Tweak (which I uninstalled a while back)?

I tried this, but before restarting the BIllboard area was the default square and all letters were distorted and not everything fit.

After restarting Billboard wasn't showing anything, all I had on the LPM was the clock. Enabling or disabling Billboard made no difference.

I had to uninstall and reinstall in the end. It's working perfectly now.

After rebooting, you might have to wait for 5 minutes or so in order for Billboard to be started. It's started very late in the boot process (nothing I can do about that, and it's actually a good thing), because all the other apps (e.g. camera-ui, messaging, etc..) have to be prestarted first. You can have a look at the "top" or "ps" output right after reboot to see all the stuff that happens behind the scenes on boot! ;)

I'll see if I can add it. For now, it should be simple to write a Shell or Python script and get the data displayed. The problem with these pieces of information is that they usually change quickly, and I don't really want to update the Billboard display image too often, as this will have an impact on battery life (and not sure if e.g. a ~ 30 minute old ram usage percentage is useful).

First of all, thank you Thomas for this great app.

Is it possible to display the battery status as an icon, like the pictures below?

If so, it would be great if the green part in the battery picture is adapting to the percentage of the battery status. So 100 % battery means a full green battery, if the battery status is 10%, only a small part within the battery icon is green.

Seems, the {events} and {events-today} option don't work properly on my device. It only shows a fraction of my upcoming events (e.g. only the 2nd and 3rd), and "today" ones in the regular "events" section.

Any ideas?! Is there a problem with the time format/time zone?!

I hope Thomas can fix the sticky display of video title on the lps. It's still a problem for me having to wipe the title by playing a song momentarily. I think this is a more important point to fix than adding more features. Some video titles are just embarrassing to be displayed as they are nfsw. (not for showing wife).

As written before, the events-option has some problems. Yesterday, not a single event was shown - neither "today" or "future" ones. Surprisingly, this morning my current events are displayed properly.

I will keep an eye on that, and will report on that issue.

Nevertheless - I hope, you can fix this some time soon?!

It depends. What kind of events are displayed incorrectly or not at all? Do you have multiple calendars or just one? In what timezone are you? Are the calendars maybe set to a different timezone?

Hey there,

I use several calendars, all set up and synced to google via caldav.

Few days ago, I did a short test, but all seemed to work - though as before, today events were listed in the general events section.
I will run another test now, including single and recurring events all over the weekend. You'll get my report on monday.
fyi: I'm in germany, GMT+1:00.

btw #1: is there an updating schedule of the events-feed?! Like hourly, or so? Or should it be up-to-date immediately?

btw #2: are there any incompatibilities with other plugins? E.g. I'm using calendar feed on the events screen. Can't imagine how, but maybe that causes my issues.

The update happens "immediately" when Billboard updates (which is once every 30-60 minutes - system-aligned to save battery - or when something else on the screen changes, e.g. the battery charge value).

No, that should not be a problem. Billboard uses Qt Mobility's Organizer APIs to read the events directly from the data store.

It works if you go to Settings, Device, Display, Color profile -> Vivid. HTH :)

I agree this should be fixed. Last week I played a video with a raunchy title and forgot to wipe it. Then I went to a shop to buy a data cable for my N9 and the saleslady "auntie" took my phone to test that it works. She saw the title and looked at me like I'm a perv. I was embarrassed and humiliated.

I'm not a programmer but it looks like a minor job to wipe off the title when video is quitted. Please fix it, Thomas.

the billboard app was working fine till my n9 was on PR 1.2, but after pr1.3 update, its not working properly.
To be precise, the text now seems to be compressed and only half the text (left side) of the full sentence is displayed on the screen, and the rest is hidden. Can this be rectified? any pr 1.3 compatible update to be released? please guide

Please read the upgrade info in the Store app for information on how to get it working. Re-install Billboard 1.0.3 and it will start working again.
