Can anyone with the device please post the repos which are used by the stock OS (or were they posted already?).

Does the camera recorder support VPx codec?

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

Video is OK. Very simple OS. Bare bones really. It's truly beta and clearly geared towards developers to work on apps and development. Average Joe will not buy this device.

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

On the positive note I can see mail for exchange all, and there seems to be landscape mode for video.

thedead1440 2013-11-28 03:14

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

On landscape mode, w00t mentioned on irc that they received the requisite sensors etc pretty late but they will be pushing it out via updates. They are aiming for updates roughly monthly.

What is encouraging is that they are taking steps to future proof their implementations unlike Nokia who had to create workarounds for previous workarounds hence ending up with a lot of cruft.

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

I noticed it uses Bash 3.2 which is old. The reason Mer provides it, is to appease vendors who are scared of GPLv3. But Jolla isn't scared, so why isn't newer Bash packaged? I think Mer should provide an alternative set of newer packages for those vendors who aren't scared of GPLv3. I.e. those should be two sets of packages provided by some metapackage. For example:

gpl3-vendor
gpl2-vendor

You have to install Mail Exchange app from Jolla Store. Calendar sync seems to work. I haven't tested the mail sync.

Fail so far for me on mail sync. But perhaps my configuration is not 100% correct.

Is it possible to use more than one Exchange account?

MS purchasing Skype and adjusting amongst others the privacy policy was drew the red line for me.

But I am very eager to hear if any Android Videocall application be it Skype or Jitsi can succesfully use Microphone and front camera.

I guess we need some patience while the frozen Fins are testing the power off , still standby alarm we used to know from Nokia :)

I have to disagree on the last part. I think Jolla is also a good smart phone for average Joe. If Joe has very specific needs like voice navigation then maybe not. Average Joes were also fine with S60 and Lumia/WP. Currently native app selection is young but it will mature.

Agreed on simplicity of OS. This is very positive IMO.

Lumiaboy, remember this is in beta atm. Also Jolla store is just launched. There is no full launch like Lumia, so this is in line.

Haven't tested it but Settings:Account UI allows you to start configuring second Mail Exchange account.

one small issue/bug.
If you have “the first one” other half fitted and set the ambience it does not appear when you side swipe from the home sceen. If you add a second ambience they then both show when you swipe and can easily be selected .
Bluetooth transfer of vcf cards dies not appesr to work for me. Also how long should it take to set up developer mode . mine has been setting up for ages

didn't Microsoft end support for third parties with Skype? IIRC official apps are the only way of using it.

One featurenot native on N9. The volume switch works as shutter release in camera app.

I've sideloaded the latest version of the Android LINE app and it works well for messaging and free voice calls. LINE video calls are not supported.

True that , it was average Joe/Mohamed/Chang that got us all set back in 2007 trading a touch screen for a complete feature list as was to be found in the Nokia's of the time.
They did not know and love their devices for the features and I doubt they do so now.
Call, check, Facebook, check, grid of icons, check..

Does exchange sync support calendar and contacts sync or only Mail sync?

Of calendar sync works with exchange, does IT sync multiple calendars or only the main calendar on the exchange account?

touchscreen was there long before... they traded it for a cool new UI and this is exactly what Jolla offers nowadays.

It's funny how everybody presses the top right "Accept" or similar button when you can just swipe right->left as if you were going to the next page :-)

For anyone complaining about skype its not been integrated because Microsoft are making the APIs private.

Indeed, it's way, way, way overdue now, I've been arguing for something like this for so long now it's not even funny any more.
Filip & Carsten really crystallised it all beautifully in that "brain dump", time to move to some really cool/effective/efficient interfacing infra. ASAP.

Wait... but has anybody with an actual Jolla account confrmed that that's it and it doesn't come with some content or anything? Just gauging whether Sailfish currently supports ID'ing the other half, going somewhere, downloading stuff, etc..

That is inaccurate. Microsoft are (foolishly) removing the Desktop APIs - but these APIs were only available on Windows PCs and Macs running the Skype application, enabling 3rd parties to communicate with (and extend the functionality of) the Skype app (and to be fair in the face of much opposition they've backed down on this, at least a little)

It has nothing to do with mobile implementations and does not affect them in the slightest.
