Huge progress on Gps is reported. As root do within alpha12
Code:

zypper ref
zypper dup
zypper in geoclue geoclue-provider-hybris-community

and use gpsinfo from warehouse. AGps is not supported yet. Thanks to mal writing the gps-glue.

p.s. Confirmed, works with all native GPS apps. Great.

Well f... + 10 chars.

I have already fixed/changed - one motherboard and usb-power-flex-cable twice (one from amazon which was faulty as phone could not find network) and now this. I checked weldering instructions and I am most likely to burn that phone than been successful of changing that power button. I am getting too old for this s...

Edit: And forgot to mention that I also changed ear speaker.

Sorry about off topic but...
How could you find repairing instructions that is nicely written text with clear pictures. Always when I search for something like that, I can only find Youtube videos recorded with a potato.

That button doesn't seem to be too hard to solder though. My recommended way for removing it would be to use SMD removal alloy like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chip-Quik-SM...item28035eb745 (I don't know if that one is the best or the cheapest, it was the first hit in Ebay). Remove the solder with solder wick, apply some of that stuff and pick up the component.

I updated the out-of-date first post to give the porters of apkenv credit. The main goal is to run Android apps using the underlying Android layer. Another very promising project is the below https://github.com/shashlik/shashlik/

@gerbick: Where have you been that you ask such questions? :D

I am using SFOS on N5 for several months now. To be fair, the current status on libhybris does not reflect what the enduser should expect. Please have a look at the bugtracker.

Overall it's working well with some hiccups here and there;) My hope is that SFOS 2.0 pushes all those ports to another level.

Woefully behind the times it seems! I should have my OnePlus back in a day or so, been using my Nexus 5. Stock Android is boring. Having the ability to make calls kept me from using this earlier.

What all difficulties have you run into?

On the latest alpha sometimes the homescreen just freezes. Some choppy audio. If the phone is locked it wont automatically moved onto the next track till you unlock the screen.

There the usual day to day things that annoy me.

Heard some rumors from internets that Nexus 5 and possibly other phones should find applications again from Jolla store after this store upgrade.

I don't have working Nexus anymore but maybe someone wants to try if Store is working again.

Thank you. Confirmed. You have to re-login to the store, thats all you need to do.

p.s. But the most apps are not listed, only a smaller amount. Fixed!

Re: SailfishOS on Nexus 5

Hi,
I'm a bit bored about the Jolla phone which is really underpowered...and I have a Nexus 5. So, I plan to install SFOS on this Nexus, and I have some questions:
- The wiki says "Flash SFOS over CM", I guess it has to be done in recovery with the "install zip" command, right?
- I guess there is no SFOS update OTA on the N5, right?
- My N5 is already flashed with CM12.1, shall I need to reflash with CM11 (as written in the wiki)?
- I see there is no 1.1.7.x package yet, is this "normal"?

Thanks.

id say use multirom.

theres an alpha13 thats based on 1.1.7 hasnt been officially released

Hi,
I tested with several configurations. with CM12, it doesn't work, period. The N5 stays locked on the Google screen.

So, CM11 is a must. And it seems to work, yeah !!

Re: SailfishOS on Nexus 5

@Romu

At the moment, you won't find significantly better performance on the Nexus 5 (or any Sailfish port) than the Jolla. Both on the Jolla and other Android phones, Sailfish itself and native apps simply can't harness the performance of the hardware (I suspect very poor task scheduling).

Main reason to use Nexus 5, if you don't need Alien Dalvik, is the vastly better screen and the 2GB of RAM (which does remove the still major OOM issues on the Jolla).

romu 2015-08-17 14:44

Re: SailfishOS on Nexus 5

I've just seen performance is far from being stellar. Suspect there is currently no hardware acceleration at all. Hope to see it, because SFOS 2.0 demos on YouTube which run on the N5 seem really fast.

Performance on N5 is consistent with performance on the Jolla. I.E. roughly the same amount slower than Alien Dalvik / Android ROMs. Also much slower than native apps on Ubuntu Touch. It's much deeper than that. They have a serious problem somewhere ...

We'll see, but I suspect it just looks smoother and 'faster' due to new animations and transitions, and maybe further improvements to the renderer. Since the UI started to be overhauled with the pre-Xmas update last year, some load and thinking times have worsened, but most people will probably think it's 'faster' due to better animations ... though the new renderer not suffering from constant and massive frame drops (unlike old one) probably plays a bigger part. It'll be easy enough to tell when the update is released by doing some simple benchmarks on the Jolla (plus I have two of them so I can do side by side) ... I'm not expecting much, as they've never once acknowledged the issues.

oh **** yeah sorry, its only for CM11, there only going to move to CM12 if theres any real improvements, and since now the GPS is working, no real need to rebase on CM12

Re: SailfishOS on Nexus 5

Yes wait and see.

I mostly wait for the 1.1.7 to get some patches to work, 4 icons make them sooo big on the N5 screen :D

I'll try if the GPS works, didn't try yet. I'll also give a shot at the phone and messaging features to see if I switch from the Jolla to the N5.

Any idea how to install the predictive keyboard?

The command
Quote:

pkcon install store-client jolla-xt9 jolla-xt9-de
returns:

Command failed: This tool could not find any available package: could not find jolla-xt9-de
Thanks.

pycage 2015-08-18 09:46

Re: SailfishOS on Nexus 5

The predictive keyboard is licensed 3rd party software and thus only available on the Jolla phone.

not true..i use it on nexus 5, i installed it by terminal but i dont remember if that string is right...only licensed things are dalvik and exchange. but i switched to fruux and now i am quiet.

In alpha 13 it works but without assist. Works very well too. If you join sailfishos-porters you can ask for the alpha13 link. The patches work perfectly with it, I use the eventsview remastered and launcher combined.

Alpha 13 installed. FYI, Low Power Mode commands work and allow to unlock the N5 with double tap when the LPM screen is shown.

SFOS on NExus 5 look more and more attractive !
I'm yelling on my Jolla every summer coz' of this sh**y poor brightness while reading outisde with the sun straight on the screen :/

Too bad its HW is not fully exploited ...

Will the new Nexus 5 be as compatible with Sailfish as the previous one ? :)

Re: SailfishOS on Nexus 5

I've had issues to install the jolla-st9 package. Thanks to alin on IRC, the issue is solved. So if you're permanently asked for credentials when running "zypper in jolla-xt9", try the following in root:

Quote:

ssu dr adaptation0
Then, you should be able to install jolla-xt9, and you've to reboot the phone to get the predictive keyboard.

I was out of the loop for a long time, waiting for Jolla to release T-Mobile compatible handset, but it started looking like a futile endeavor, so I recently "joined the club" and now I'm using Sailfish on Nexus 5 :)

Did anyone manage to install Meecast lock screen applet there? It fails for me.

which alpha? I've installed it but its currently out of whack, all the icons are squished together, it needs to be dynamically sized. am on alpha13 btw

I'm using alpha 12, I didn't know alpha 13 is out. At least I don't see it here http://images.devaamo.fi/sfe/hammerhead/ and any mention of it here: https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Ada...for_hammerhead

I suspect both the new N5 (LG) and N6 (Huawei) will be extremely popular devices. Particularly with developers.

So I'd rate the chances of Sailfish ports for both as quite high. Higher than any other forthcoming phones, at least.

On the information available, I'd lean towards buying the N6. Whilst I don't really want a phone that big, the new N5 has an extremely large footprint (lots of bezel) for a phone with only a 5.2" screen, which is quite disappointing. Also from what I've heard it'll be IPS and the Huawei will be OLED. Don't quote me on that though. New N6 will be 5.7" rather than the gigantic 6" that the current (highly unpopular) Motorola is, so I expect a lot of the people who want a Nexus phablet will jump on it.

There'll definitely be Ubuntu Touch ports, so I'll be getting one or the other. If Sailfish fails to improve or ports don't materialise, I'll have back up .. plus the myriad of Android ROMs that will appear.
