Lol. ******** ;) are you not public?

Yes. There is. As always a risk. Even with 'official' release.
Which, btw, this IS, as tge repository is open to us 'public' people

I agree. Telling "you can upgrade to 1.1.4.24" would be enough. Sharing dangerous commands ready to be copy pasted for unexperienced people is not so good.

nieldk 2015-04-07 17:40

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

Copy/paste for the unexperienced, dare I say is far better than not giving FULL instructions.

the so-called unexperienced people will otherwise very likeky try what they believe is correct. Way more dangerous.

So, again i repeat those ******** remarks.

while true shouldn't people realistically look at the commands? I understand what they do so I use them, but I doubt I could remember them for the life of me. so whats the issue with them being provided?

coderus 2015-04-07 17:56

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

The reason is if somebody will leak it every time jolla can move beta releases out of public server and you will need to wait official (opt-in) release to get it. Also if much peoples will update this way and got problems jolla can't help them in common way without suggesting factory reset and doing normal update procedure :D

I guess you have a point there. And finding the insructions with Google is easy enough, so the harm is done already. Maybe some "this is dangerous" disclaimer would be nice.

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

So, who is black, and who is white?

The commands to update are not the issue.
What many is mistaken about is the fact that things may break once you leave official channels.

Those who regularly use Linux distros knows this fact.

It is, once again, connected with risk every single time you update, but the fact iis - this is more related to unofficial builds, apps, or system patches, which Jolla can't, and won't ever guarantee won't break something.

If users are on a 'plain' distro (sailfishos) these three commands won't harm anything.

True, things can still go wrong, just like when the patient once chose to wait. Unexpected power-off while upgrading, loss of connectivity. Or (hrm hrrmmmm) bad battery!

They made the icons resolution independent. Maybe that's why it's changed... This release should include e.g. landscape mode for Maps, Split keyboard in landscape mode with a setting to disable it, IMAP idle/push support for mail accounts, and resolution independent icons.

And if we are lucky some of these...can search for email or do private browsing?

NOTE: Part of the features below might get ready for the next release. Quotes:
Kernel update to latest linux-stable version 3.4.106 for Jolla Phone
Tablet adaptation work
recovery mode/factory reset operation
device identifiers supporting tablet OS upgrade
Preparations for Bluetooth certification qualification
Security fixes for gnutls vulnerabilities (CVE-2015-0282, CVE-2015-0294), libgcrypt vulnerabilities CVE-2014-3591, CVE-2015-0837 and openssl vulnerability notified here
Implement parts of voicecall-manager for SIP and other VoIP protocols
Finalize the new UI framework features demonstrated during MWC
Tablet-optimized apps and landscape layouts
Refresh visuals for Sailfish Silica components
Virtual/HW keyboard opening policy
Email Search
Improve folders list in Mail app

Camera adaptation work on Tablet
File system layout implementation for Tablet
Android runtime support Tablet
Continue working on landscape modes for apps
Settings pane to display disk usage
Allow factory reset operation to reset the OS to the latest available public version instead of the age old factory image
Upgrade to Pulseaudio 6.0
Private browsing
SIP integration into accounts. test IM capabilities in messaging

I believe coderus made that.
Perhaps the gentleman can make proper backwards compatible coding, so the impatient won't need to wait for his new release ;)

I know the patch exists, but why isnt it there by default. Is there something against the reboot button?
