mal- strikes again!
Alpha2 is out! OTA update to 2.0.2.48 is possible!

Feathers McGraw 2016-08-10 21:51

Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

Just did a reflash to alpha2 and did an OTA update to 2.0.2.48.

Got this error:

Code:

Error: File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'https://store-repository.jolla.com/releases/2.0.2.48/jolla-hw/adaptation-fairphone-fp2-sibon/armv7hl/?credentials=store'
Asked on IRC and the solution was to re-run the sed command in the instructions on the mer wiki.

Everything seems to be working really well now :)

Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

Some good news from mal-
This is posible to flash the TWRP Recovery from FairphoneOpen with fastboot. This will not touch the Sailfish Installation and you will be able to backup/restore the whole System IMage with TWRP.

Just download the neweste FairphoneOpen 16.06, extract it.
Boot FP2 to the Fastboot Mode (Vol- + PowerOn)

Code:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
This is also possible to change the Adroid Base System with

Code:

fastboot flash system system.img
In both cases, the Sailfish will be untouched.

To boot into Recovery:
Vol+ + PowerOn

Where did you get TWRP from? Is there a known good version? I've seen some random binaries floating around, but haven't tried them because I don't like flashing stuff without any verification...

You can extract the original FairphoneOpen OS and flash the recovery.img
recovery.img = TWRP

Just grab this file and extract it:
http://storage.googleapis.com/fairph...-userdebug.zip

Afterwards, put your FP2 to the Fastboot-Mode (Vol- + PowerOn)

Code:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
This is the TWRP, which Fairphone modified for the FP2. Working like a charm. Backup / restore worked (i tested it)

Cool, I had no idea they had officially switched to TWRP! Thanks for testing too.

Stupid me just decided to buy an Fairphone, so hope it comes this week.

I am almost sure I will be upset on Android but I can not change to sailfish if no Dalvik engine working :(

Why I am stupid? Because now I will have two phones and will still use Jolla as main phone atleast until mymoney is ported to android.

TWRP I dont have a clue what it is and the FAQ doesn't tell. So maybe stupid question, but does it mean dual boot?

Fairphone use TWRP only for the OpenSource Android FairphoneOpen
(Android without google Services)

The standard FairphoneOS (GMS based) have still the crappy / ugly standard Android Recovery, which can only install signed OS images. nothing more.

So TWRP is a way better for us.
When you have installed TWRP in the recovery, you can:

Backup full OS
Android (GMS based)
Android AOSP (Fairphone Open)
Sailfish

After you have backed up - you can install other OS, like Android straight from the recovery.
Afterwards, wipe and restore the Backup again.

Of course, this is no real DualBoot, because restoring the Backup take some time, looking forward to have a real DualBoot Solution, where i can switch between Android and Sailfish.

You are not stupid at all. After you have the Fairphone with Sailfish in your hands - you will never give it away.
Yes, the missing Android Support is a missing important feature.
The first week, i also had my Jolla 1 and Fairphone with me. Now i have only the Fairphone, Jolla is @home, as a collector item (collecting dust) ;-)
For my banking (Deutsche Bank) i use the mobile Web page, which i put as an icon on my Sailfish Desktop.

Official Sailfish OS for Fairphone will come. I'm absolutely sure... They still wait, until the Software Base became stable enough.

About the both alpha1 and alpha2 Ports i can say, that the community Porter (mal-) is an perfectionist. His alpha-Images works a way better, than the official Sailfish on the Jolla 1 sometimes.

So keep calm. We will have Fairfish soon... :-)

As said already the FAQ does not tell what it actually is. It only tells stuff for geeks that does not have any life except playing with their phones. = People who already knows about ADB blablabla.

Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

Btw. I guess jolla have disabled the 2.0.2.48 repository cause they have now official update for Jolla1 and then decided to remove unofficial repo of FP2 version of Arujoki at the same time?

Code:

File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'https://store-repository.jolla.com/releases/2.0.2.48/jolla-hw/adaptation-fairphone-fp2-sibon/armv7hl/?credentials=store'

Abort, retry, ignore? [a/r/i/?] (a): i
Error retrieving metadata for 'adaptation0':
SKIP request: User-requested skipping of a file
Skipping repository 'adaptation0' because of the above error.
R

I did tweak above and changed to 2.0.2.51 however that broke it totally now it ask for user/password instead when try access jolla. So don't try!

Btw. I am now using FP2 with SFOS as my main phone.

Only drawback is it draining battery to fast. Could be I use BT and cutespot alot but it doesn't even hold a day. It also it drains battery on night. So it seems it needs improvement on that area.

I found out, that freezing after the phone call has smth. to do with light / proximity sensor.
Also Fairphone stock Android Versions have some issues with this sensor.
I found out, that after the FP2 hangs, you need just to cover the sensor with the finger and release them after 1-2 sec. the touchscreen begin to react after this "hack"
i told it mal- via IRC.

This problem is under investigation.
0.0.1.80 chnages some dependencies, but doesn't fix the sensor problem.

Anything else runs stable - IMHO

My daily driver - Fairphone 2 is also a bit more hungry on 2.0.2.51 than on 2.0.1.11

My Jolla 1 is as power hungry as usual with the latest update... i.e. not that much, for my use pattern. A full charge usually lasts ~48 hours, sometimes less, sometimes even more, depending on how much I actually use it.

Re: Sailfish OS on Fairphone 2

For all FP2-Users, who has Fairphone Open 16.06 or 16.07 as base for the Sailfish OS:
Do not upgrade to Fairphone Open 16.08 or 16.09
Both of this versions has an update for the Modem Firmware which solve the Ambient light sensor problem but cause a much higher power consumtion under Sailfish.

Downgrading to 16.07 or 16.06 wouldn't help because this versions doesn't include this Modem Firmware.

Our hero mal- is searching for the solution now, maybe we get some older firmware images from the Fairphone to go back or we hope for 16.10 Version, which will (hopefully) fix it.

So if you din't upgraded - wait until it is confirmed, which version is safe to flash, if you alredy updated (like me and mal-) - you also need to wait. I will inform you here asap

UPDATE:
The old Modem-Files can be optained here:

http://storage.googleapis.com/fairph...-1.4.2-img.zip

Flash only the modem files, so no recovery.img and no.sysem.img

Mal-s latest Adaptation 0.0.1.94 has fixed a couple of Sensor-bugs which were very nasty in Sailfish 2.0.4.14

Check if you have mal-s devel-Repo installed, if not run:

Code:

devel-su sed -i -e 's#^adaptation=.*$#adaptation=http://repo.merproject.org/obs/nemo:/devel:/hw:/fairphone:/fp2-sibon/sailfish_latest_armv7hl/#' /usr/share/ssu/repos.ini

Afterwards
Code:

zypper ref; zypper up

Did you manage to update yet? I've also fallen behind a bit. Maybe just have to alter the $RELEASE variable shown in the wiki, and re-run `sed`.
