Re: Navit GPS (and libgarmin) for os2008
PS:
It is a problem, i f i try to change the access rights for the navit.xml file??? I will be set it for the tests only to 777, because the access violation by savig this file after i has been made the changes comming always up. PS2: It is a problem. if i try in the section for openstreetmaps: ... data="/media/mmc1/map/*.bin"/> ??? If i try this, my navit will no more start! Depend the starttime from volume of the map(s)??? Or will be the map loaded after i have activated it in the list? PS3: It will be a VERY NICE FEATURE of navit: ... If the actualy position points outside of active map location, that navit automaticaly does correct the actualy position to approx. middle of this map. (And may be, correct the zoom ratio too.) This may solve those problems like a had finaly. Thank you, Feri |
Latest test - my edit of navit.xml
I will be test, if i can move the original map to external (mmc1) card and if it works!
- So, i have been chaged the access permissions of navit.xml to 777. - then have edited with PyGTKEditor the file navit.xml in this way (in the sample map section): <mapset enabled="yes"> <xi:include href="/media/mmc1/map/*.xml"/> </mapset> - then, i have copied the original files to this location on the mmc1 card. - i had changed the osm_bbox_11.33,47.9,11.7,48.2.xml file in this manner: <map type="binfile" enabled="yes" data="/media/mmc1/map/osm_bbox_11.3,47.9,11.7,48.2.bin"/> - so, all saved, navit started again and as result: NO MAP WAS LOADING !!! The menuepoint MAP in the navit menue was not present!!! Whats wrong pls??? Thank you, Feri |
Re: Navit GPS (and libgarmin) for os2008
I just have a file called map.xml, which I point to in the xi:include line. Then I call my maps from there.
Try changing to: <xi:include href="/media/mmc1/map/map.xml"/> and rename your osm.....xml file to map.xml it should work. You can call multiple maps from a singe file. |
Re: Navit GPS (and libgarmin) for os2008
Tahnx, very much! I will be test it!
--- But in this time, i have in navit.xml and osm_bbox_11.33,47.9,11.7,48.2.xml changed the path in this way: ="/usr/share/navit/maps/*.xml" ... and it works with the original test map again. It seems, as on my external card does the map not work. Yes, now i go test it again - with you settings. Thanx, Feri |
Re: Navit GPS (and libgarmin) for os2008
YESS!
It works, so like you told: <xi:include href="/media/mmc1/map/map.xml"/> AND: MEA CULPA, that i had more xml files in this map directory - the the navit could not start, because many of the xml files have entries for not valid or not existent map files! Try to have only valid entries - than it works. Ok, i will test other map file now, and as finale multiple files! QUESTION: How long will start the navit with mapfile about 100MB ??? Is it the file length they make problems for me, or the mapfiles, they i had loaded before are not able to work with navit? Have you good source for maps? The latest i have loaded from Planet Ectraction, but do not work!!! Navit will not start with those maps! Thanx, Feri |
Re: Navit GPS (and libgarmin) for os2008
ferika: Try using this link to download the map area that you want. This is setup to extract OSM maps for Navit.
http://maps.navit-project.org/download/ You will then have to modify your navit.xml for the new map file name. |
Success with the map, but...
Ok, i loaded the whole map of Europe from the link in the Navit Wiki. One problem - if i try to ZoomOut, then after 3-4 steps i see not map, but short lines, and undefinable very lettle objects only. Cannot navigate from one country to the other, because nothing identificable is to see. Only if i try to zoom near details, then i become right sight on the map.
Thank you, Feri |
Re: Navit GPS (and libgarmin) for os2008
I asked the developer of Navit your question. His response was that Navit currently only uses one map resolution level. Zooming out can get very CPU taxing because of the amount of detail that needs to be drawn so stuff gets cut out from being drawn.
The solution will be to implement an overview map that is still vector based but have much less detail. To quote the developer: For example, if the boundary of usa consists of say 50000 nodes in the detail map, it will be reduced to for example 1000 nodes for the overview map Currently he is working on fixing making the oceans appear blue which is a prerequisite to the overview map. Once he finishes the blue ocean part he will start working on the overview map. He is hopeful that he can address these items within a couple of weeks but there is no guarantee. If you have some programing skills though you could always offer to help... |
Re: Navit GPS (and libgarmin) for os2008
Thanks!
But - how does this the built-in map application of OS2008 ??? If i try to load the whole east Europe (apr. 130 MB - ex. Yugoslavia, Baltic and so far are poor), or Alps, then the zoom comes quick enough. Have this maps more submaps for each resolution, or may be, taht each element have as parameter a limit zoom factor ? Over this zoom factor will be then this element not displayed? And can be set up for each element separately. May be a solution for Navit maps too? Thank you, Feri |
