I don't mean to hijack the thread, but DialCentral + Gizmo5 works great for making and receiving free calls over Wifi or 3G, if you're lucky enough to have a Gizmo5 account (or other SIP provider?) before the Google Voice/Gizmo5 takeover.

You can use a Gizmo5/SIP number as one of your forwarding phones in Google Voice (to receive calls)... and then use your Gizmo5/SIP number as the callback number with Google Voice/DialCentral to initiate SIP calls (over Wifi or 3G).

Works great with DialCentral and the built-in SIP support on the n810 (or n8x0?) and n900.

(Search the forum here for SIP configuration details)

And continued thanks to epage for DialCentral development :)

Too funny Edward. You made me lol.

Anyway, I'm back to using 1.2.18 today and all is good. :)

So yeah, there's probably no reason to give you my log now.

Sorry. Next time I'll remember to save that.

@epage

The latest DC updates (1.2.18) have been looking real nice.

Thanks for keeping us Diablo folks in the loop!

Just as an FYI I have confirmed Adisons texting bug in 1.2.19. It is possible to get a quick fix out but I think I'll spend the time to try in the same vein 1.2.19 was suppose to be, trying to get rid of the graphical glitches in Qt on n900.

Hi Edward!

Hey, I'm having a terrible time with notifications.

I can't get them to stop when it's no longer needed.

I've unchecked it, checked it, closed it down, change the time from 1 minute to 3 hours. Almost everything I've tried.

It keeps checking every minute and flashing the LED whenever I receive a new message.

I'm currently using 1.2.16 but this was also the case on the two newer releases as well.

Any way to kill this?

Thank you. :)

I've added a notification section to the wiki, including custom notifiers, deleting alarms, turning off the led, etc

Okay, it's saying Alarm (1295919142) is enabled for every 180 minutes

However, it's checking at least every minute.

Weird.

I've now added a reference to the wiki about a notification-specific log file. That might be interesting.

Okay.

I found the only way to get notifications to work correctly again, if it's acting weird, is by Tools-> Accounts-> Clear Account.

This will reset everything correctly. :)

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Hmm...

Version 1.2.21

I can put a check mark on or off the Notifications box, but it always remains active.

I'm also somehow lock out on changing the message settings since they are all grayed out.

http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/2...1020222515.png

Finally, I can't even "Clear Account" since this does nothing.

All I can say is that I had notifications on when I upgraded.

Oops, I went through and improved error reporting but when doing so I introduced bugs in the areas I tend to test the least, clearing account info and notifications.

I've also noticed issues with saving settings changes. Can't remember which, though. :(

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

DC quit working on my N810 a couple of months ago. Running it from a command line I get this error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./dialcentral.py", line 22, in <module> import dialcentral_qt
File "/opt/dialcentral/lib/dialcentral_qt.py", line 12, in <module> from PyQt4 import QtGui
RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v8.0 but the PyQt4.QtGui module requires API v7.0

I verified I got dialcentral_1.2.22-0_all.deb from the diablo pool of the repository.

Any ideas?

Glad to hear. I was worried that when I promoted DC it would promote the broken Qt.

Hi Ed.

There's still something seriously wrong with changing the notification settings with your newest version.

Whatever I set it to, it just didn't seem to want to take.

Is it that you configure it all and yet no notifications work or that you check a box and it goes unchecked?

For me, in the latest build the auto-unchecking is fixed. Hmmm

Notification is only running on Maemo 4.1 right now.

Hi Ed!

I'm sorry, but changing the settings on Notifications still blows with your latest version.

For some reason, changing the options doesn't stick.

And yeah, I'm completely up to date with your latest package.

Other than that. Wow! I think you have a perfect final release for DC. :)

For once I even tested notifications and I got a light.

Mind sending me a log? Hopefully that'll show what is going on.

Yeah, I get a light too.

Now try not getting one. :)

For now, I have to go offline for it to stop working.

I'll see if I can't find a pattern to it all.

What log file do you need?

There's a bunch of them.

There should only be two logs and both could be interesting.

On those logs...

I have SMS checked, which is set at 1 minute, and notifications not checked but I still receive them.

Thanks for looking into this. :)

Addison 2011-02-09 12:44

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Okay. This is what I found.

DC 1.2.24

Changing notifications only takes effect once you close DC.

If you have checked SMS but not checked Notifications, you will still receive them. Only refreshing the messages will not remove the blinking LED.

So to suddenly remove notifications, uncheck everything and then close DC.

To activate notifications, change the settings and then close DC.

I hope that makes sense to you. :)

Bugs found so far:
  • Recurrence time combo box would not show the actual recurrence time
  • Not flushing notifier settings on save

The part that seems strange is I should be turning on/off the notifier just fine but you mention unchecking it, hitting apply, and it still going off. I'll release what I have but further testing isstill needed.

Would it be possible to have the text window default in full screen too?

As it is now, before I begin to type anything I first have to resize the display.

Thanks. :)

Oops. I'm doing a bit of testing on the fix for this before sending it out.

Addison 2011-02-16 20:21

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

During a long conversation, this is what I tend to do now.

Bring up text window.

Click inside chat window.

This then shows hildon keyboard.

Resize window to full screen.

After so many texts, what this does is show like the last two messages at the very top of the screen so you don't have to keep messing around with the scroll bar.

If you could reproduce this effect automatically for those who don't have a hardware keyboard, that would be awesome! :)

epage 2011-02-17 02:22

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I've done a little bit more testing, fixed a few more bugs with fullscreen / orientation setting and am now pushing it out to the builder. Let me know if you see any issues.

Joy!

"The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters."

Joy!

Addison 2011-02-18 23:04

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Because you have a hardware keyboard, I doubt you would go for this...

But yeah, it would be nice if there was a way too bring the history higher up on the screen so I don't always have to mess with the scroll bar when responding.

Text sometimes still run off the screen.

Sometimes, after refreshing, the latest message won't appear but will when you click on it to respond.

Sometimes a new message will show up but when responding it won't be there.

Certain things will never appear. For instance "<3", used to say love, will never display.

Awesome version though Ed.

Many thanks! :)

It is something that could be done not just for old devices but theoretically for new devices without a HW keyboard. I'm not too sure what the best approach would be but would you file an enhancement request about that in b.m.o?

Runs off which screen? The History view or the texting screen?

Not too sure why the message tab would miss messages (unless its a text overflow issue) but I can think of a couple cases where the SMS window would need to be updated and adding it in.

The history screen sometimes runs off, never the texting screen.

Nothing weird but sometimes there isn't a carriage return when a new message arrives either, both on the history and texting screen.

I'll send you a text right now that says

I love you Ed. <3

Tell me what you get on your end beside creepy vibes from me. *lol*

Not sure about the others for the problem with <3 is that it is trying to render it as broken HTML. I've just uploaded a fix. It will require a refresh because it is stored in the cache in the incorrect form.

Texting window is now broken.

When writing a long message, the letters run off the screen and you can't see what you are typing anymore.

Really? I didn't even change anything related to that in 1.2.28. Did you skip a release or two? Is this when in fullscreen or regular?
