Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I flashed and updated my phone yesterday to the latest version of CSSU, 21.2011.38-1 maemo 8.1 flavour: testing. Now I just noticed my gmail no longer contains body of messages and when I click on each messages in an attempt to open, it reads: "message...not available on server". Is this a bug in the latest update or is there any other thing wrong with my device? Can someone please help me on how to correct this anomally?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

1. Not related to thumb, at all. You're not using thumb (as per your description), just plain CSSU-Testing

2. Modest bug is not related to CSSU, be it stable, vanilla, or whatever.

3. Modest specialists are currently investigating it, so just hope for a hotfix in CSSU (even despite fact, that it wasn't broken by CSSU), or via external package.

Where please can I install Stable thumb, can you post me the link? Secondly, my screen, applications and microb freezes often since after updating to the latest CSSU, I have re-flashed severally yet the problem still persist. Often I have to reboot to get my device back working. Any solution please?

There is NO such thing like thumb stable!

Thumb2 is a term used to describe a way to compile binaries for the N900.
The source used is the source of CSSU-testing.
There is nothing more, but also nothing less, to it.

While perfectly true, I think he was confused by this very thread title: "stable thumb2 on N900". While it's clearly used to mean, that thumb2 is working perfectly fine - not to mark, that it's some "stable" release of cssu - it may be confusing, at first.

after installing CSSU-testing 8.2 I can’t updated OS to thumb, When I clicked the link started HAM, asking to unlock repo(click "yes")after long time - something like "CSSU-enabler is already installed". I install some libraries, that asking to update when unlock the repo. Trying for 3 times - same reaction. Can You help?

After updating to the latest CSSU Testing, microb on freezes often with the message - "webpage not responding, forcefully close page? unsaved data may be lost". When this happens every other applications freezes too including the screen. Can someone more experienced advice me on what to do please?

This happened a couple of weeks ago and was something that google did. It has been sorted with the latest version of cssu stable yesterday. I guess cssu testing will not be far behind. freemangordon is your guy to ask.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

You may upgrade to the latest -testing, this is the idea behind having both -thumb and -testing repos enabled. upgrading to -testing will only install those packages that are newer. As soon as I have some spare time I'll issue a new -thumb*

Damn the mass media in France is crap - I've seen nothing about this.

When I searched on the web I found this, but that seems rather out of date!

Anyway - stay safe and victory to the people!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

UK reported on Brazil, but nothing about what's going on there.

I decided to setup a thumb target for scratchbox earlier. Only test I've done so far is with rtmpdump, which shaves about 2kb each off both librtmp0 and rtmpdump debs.

What is the preferred method for generating debs? Particularly in terms of correctly generating version suffix. Does it depend on changelog entry?

I've found out about the bug in FREMANTLE_ARMEL.environment defining thumb, so I've removed that. I can now look for "thumb" in DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS and define -mthumb in debian/rules based on that. I wondered if there is an option for adding a version suffix via rules to simplify the process.

I have an issue (first let me say i have both -thumb and -testing repos on, so this is probably the reason) with the microb browser.
It runs fine and smooth untill i leave it open (and don't touch the phone for few minutes) then it rises the load avreage above 10 and the phone becomes unresponsive for 1-2 minutes.
Anyone else having this issue?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I've got an issue with my n900 and want to try and reinstall CSSU-Thumb to see if it will fix it. I went to change my battery, but was in a hurry. In my haste, I thought I'd shut the device down but really only turned the screen off. So when I removed the battery it killed a running system.

On reboot I have a number of issues:

*) What looks like some font issues with various glyphs not rendered. Sometimes there's default replacement fonts and sometimes (eg when searching for a contact) squares instead of text.

*) Conversations has lost a lot of its look and feel - a text message message is small black text on a white background with a thin black box. This could be theme corruption?

*) All my saved conversations are missing from the app. I wonder though if this is down to UI issues like the above, breaking the app. el.db (which I think contains them is of a decent size).

*) Web pages aren't rendering properly - again I think this is partly the fonts issues.

*) Otherwise it seems to be functioning no problem. All the above survived a reboot.

TMO is one of the worst affected sites. Also when I visit the CSSU-Thumb installation page from the device I just get an empty page and nothing happens. So...

Does this sound like something CSSU-Thumb reinstall will fix? If not any suggestions - I'd prefer to leave flashing as a last resort as it's my main phone, now. If so, is there a way to reinstall CSSU-Thumb using say apt-get or wget?

I've done a search but not found anything yet. I'll keep looking meantime.

maybe try a good few reboots first. i had a few weird symbols years ago and about 5 reboots fixed it.

worth a shot.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Sounds like you have some files missing. Reinstalling the theme might help. Or the fonts. You can try something like
Code:

root
apt-get update
apt-get install --reinstall hildon-theme-alpha (assuming that's what you are using, substitute as necessary)

On the other hand, you might have a file system corruption. There have been plethora cases like that discussed here (the forum, not the thread), just do a search.

Thanks, the theme does seem to have disappeared from the list. I'll try a reinstall then work on the basis that I need to fix a corrupt fs. Wasn't sure whether CSSU supplied some of these resources - but that looks to not be the case.

Still need to learn exactly what's what on the device - not had time to get into it as much as I hoped so far. That may change now I've been forced to. ;)

Thanks, again.

It's not on the "user" list. So HAM would not display it at all and FAM only if you ask it nicely (select "All packages (advanced)". Or you can use the command line.

Sorry I meant in the theme selector - the theme I was using, I forget the name, is no longer listed.

Working on the fs corruption now. I'll stop adding noise to this thread.

I fellowed this project from its begining then I got very busy and couldnt visit the forum for around 8 months , and as I see this project has been advanced so much

what I want to ask is this still need clean install as in begining? because I see nothing about it in OP

I mean by clean install : reflash ---> installing CSSU testing ---> installing CSSU-Thumb

Thanks in advance :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

You better do an upgrade after the reflash, be it via apt-get or Hildon Package Manager before proceed to CSSU. You should then install CSSU-thumb which pulls the necessary packages from CSSU-testing repository.
Right now you need to be careful, because CSSU-testing version is higher than Thumb version, which is held back to iron out some quirks in CSSU-testing.

thanx for replay

but is reflash needed? for example I have the latest CSSU-testing for a long time so do I need to reflash or I can proceed directly to installing Thumb? because as I remember people who do this got issues in thier devices so it was must to strat with a reflashed (clean) device and install Thumb before installing any app or game so is this still needed?

No and it never was. No surprise you can't find it "anymore" in OP, as such info was never there. Maybe you're mixing it up with some other project?

michaaa62 2013-07-02 06:31

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Well, you asked for reflash...

You need a thumb-'enabled' kernel to proceed, either kernel-cssu or kernel-power v.51r1 and higher will work. Do not forget to install kernel-XYZ-flasher and kernel-XYZ-modules packages for the kernel of your choice.
Code:

apt-cache search kernel-power
apt-cache search kernel-cssu

to verify the right package names. After a fresh kernel install, reboot to load the new kernel, if necessary.

Then install the version of mp-fremantle-community-pr from the thumb repo. Get the version
Code:

apt-cache policy mp-fremantle-community-pr
Quote:

~ $ apt-cache policy mp-fremantle-community-pr

Do not go for the highest version you need the thumb version.
Install with
Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr=21.2011.38-1Tmaemo7.2+thumb1

Note:
If you through upgrade have a higher version installed, this will not work. You will then have to wait for the next thumb-version, may that be a year, a month, a week or a day. But you could start fresh with a flash...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Hi I just updated to thumb from cssu stable. All seems fine, working very smooth but i have one little issue. When I'm opening the lens cover camera app does not start.
I had lens cover reminder installed(it works, dmesg also shows that lens where opened). I Installed camera lens launcher but still opening lens cover doesn't trigger launching of desired program.

Edit:
I tried to:
apt-get remove --purge lens-cover-reminder-sp flashlight-applet cl-launcher
and install again but didn't helped

It seems also camera button does not invoke the camera app any more. It did if I remember correctly.

Try checking these values: Camera->General settings->Show on {lenscover open}-{focusbutton press}.
I just know that these settings exist in CSSU-Testing - and therefore, they are likely to exist in CSSU-thumb.
Best wishes.

don't know if reported, but checking my settings exposed a bug. soemtimes, not always starting app with shutter closed doesn't show slide open reminder

Guys, I am preparing a new update, don't install/upgrade until it is ready as there could be broken dependencies and such. I'll announce once the new version is ready.
