The n900 is still officially supported by Nokia, just not the Meego adaptation for the n900.

i found the files here:

but where can i find the installation instructions ?

Those are the wrong files (hint: look at the date). Just wait until later today when the official n900 image is posted.

I know, I am pacing frantically as well :o

a VM is a Virtual Machine, basicly you run another OS inside the host OS.

try VirtualBox for an easy and simple to use VM, also free :)
