avidscavenger: I don't know specifically what's happening, but you have two image files mounted with the dmloop, and your N900 crashes when attempting to close all apps running in the image file (using fuser). I suspect there is some kind of interference between the two image files.

I'm using a US keyboard. Nevermind, I replaced the /usr/share/X11/xkb under my debian partition with the same directory from maemo side, and it worked! Still not sure why I suddenly needed to do this following the PR1.2 update, but either way it works now. |

I love this app!
I'm a web developer and having an installation of PHP and MySQL on a portable device is a big deal for me. I do have 1 request though. Can we have an option to install an image without all the bloatware? I'm not particularly fond of Open Office, nor do i plan to use Gimp/Firefox. I just need a simple terminal. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
would there be any way to get calibre installed via apt-get on easy debian? I see it is not in the repo, Is there a repo I could add and then after install just disable the repo?
or would moving to the version I see in extras-devel work? the only 2 apps I really need (well apart from a phone) on the n900 are a real linux with all command line apps (so thats easy debian not maemo) and an epub reader that can show me the table of contents in my oreilly epub books (that is calibre not fbreader evidently). thanks. loving the learning I am doing on easy debian from the regular repo but willing to get experimental to get calibre .... |

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Will enabling the squeeze repo allow me to finally start pulling muscles from a shell? I've always wanted that functionality in bash.
ok off to read the wiki. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
ok I uncommented the 2 lines in etc/apt/sources.list and then did apt get update and apt-cache search calibre, got no output. guess I am out of ammo here :(

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
qole: not really. I just don't have a need for them. also, a bit OCD seeing so many icons on my device that i would never use.
I'm actually fine with just removing them. If you could just list the packages installed, that would be fine as well. 1 other service i plan to run is asterisk. do you think it would install properly? Btw, side note, i'm fairly new to linux. I've always developed my webapps (PHP) on Windows making sure they'd run properly when on linux. |

ah thanks, I restarted debian, typed it correctly and it fails to start. it is looking for module mechanize. I don't know that that means but I did an apt-cache search mechanize (see below) and if one of these packages can fix the issue I have no idea which one...

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
It looks like calibre is a Python app. Try installing python-mechanize and see if it works.
Code:
apt-get install python-mechanize |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
apt-get install python-mechanize
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done python-mechanize is already the newest version. python-mechanize set to manually installed. The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: djvulibre-desktop libdrm2 Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 468 not upgraded. [root@deb-m5v3d: ~] am I out of luck on this one? :( |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
ok doing apt-get upgrade, this will probably break everything, at least then I will now if calibre can install.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
rebhana: i'd like to report that i have successfully installed asterisk on easy debian. However, as the wiki stated, keep your expectations reasonable. It does run and i was able to make a call. I was even able to install FreePBX BUT the CPU ran at around 10% on idle and jumped to around 50% on a call. Considering i was connected to myself (setup a local and connected the n900), i was surprised that the connection was choppy. I will still keep it installed just for the heck of it. :)

Is there a way to have Easy Debian load with Multiboot. As I have Multiboot installed and loading Maemo, Power Kernel and now NITDroid, Loading Easy Debian this way would be very clean. Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Guys,
I currently have Easy Deb installed on my internal memory. I also have NITDroid installed on a 8gb SD card. I wish to have all on the SD card and hence need to make 3 partitions to do so. Could someone please advise how to make the 3 partitions for me. 2.5gb (Easy Debian) 1.9gb (For NITDroid) 3.5gb (NITDroid) approx, what ever is left over. Typically for the NITDroid we did the following: sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1 << EOF ,6100,C ,,L ,, ,, EOF Giving 6.1gb and remaning. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Hi
how to switch the keyboard layout from English into Russian for example? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Coffee, I would suggest using a GUI partitioning program like GParted, but that's just me. I like graphical programs.

Please help - How to change black theme of openoffice.org in easydebian
I have installed easy Debian successfully and openoffice is working properly. But my concern is the black theme of open office. How to get the normal theme (white) for office.org? Thanks |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
LXDE->Preferences->Appearance->Window->AvailableWindowThemes->Weightless-Industry(at will).
The same theme will be in office. |

Used GParted, thanks, was very easy. As aware, I wish to run both Easy Deb & NITDroid off the SD Card. I got the SD Card partioned into 3. mmcblk1p1 approx 3.3gb NITDroid (fat32) mmcblk1p2 approx 1.8gb NITDroid (ext3) mmcblk1p3 approx 2.4gb Allocated for Easy Debian (ext2) I reflashed both FIASCO & eMMC and then installed NITDroid, is installed and working perfectly on a clean slate. I am now trying to install Easy Debian and looks to all be ok except it tries to install on the mmcblk1p1 (NITDroid). I don't wish for it to be on NITDroid's allocated partition, what should I do?

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Coffee: The easiest thing to do is to get this file:
debian-m5-v3b-rootfs.tar.bz2 Untar it as root into the Easy Debian partition on your card. You can do this on your phone or, faster, on a Linux computer. |
