8am: I pull the n900 off of the charger before I head out the door.
Take a few of calls throughout the day.
Calendar reminders throughout the day.
e-mail and web surfing during my lunch break (about 30 mins of 3G usage)
When I get home at night, I only see a sliver off of the battery indicator which probably means about 80 percent (Purely just a guess).

My setup is a N900 with T-Mobile using three desktops. The only refreshing widget I have on is the calendar. The rest are all contacts and application launchers. I turned off all GPS and network positioning; if I need it then I can manually turn it on (the city where I work has a mobile device ban anyhow). I also leave off WIFI scanning. If I am near a AP that the n900 knows of it will automatically connect to it if I open the browser anyhow, so I don't see the point of leaving that on. Oh, and I turn off all data connections after I use them. Keeping to that strategy, I get significantly better battery life than most other smartphones I have owned.

Anyhow, I hope this helps some of y'all out there.

When I use mine that way it works well also.

Re: N900 battery life questions, issues, scenarios

I've also had the phone for 2 days now and the battery is "horrid". I'm hoping that it will get better with a couple more charge cycles or the next firmware. for me the standby seems fine but as soon as I use 3G browsing the bar takes a quick dive. After the first full charge I only had the phone on for 12 hours before it completely died and to be honest I did some browsing/downloaded a couple apps but nothing too heavy. maybe it was because I did a lot of configuration on it and the display was on a lot.

anyway, today i have it on 3 brightness and wifi/3G at minimal usage (which obv. defeats the purpose of having the phone but I guess we have to control ourselves) GPS and every unneeded widget closed (except for weather and the conversation widget) and it looks promising. I hope like Flux and LesGarten, it will get better in a week or so.
anybody with tips please post!!!!

Re: N900 battery life questions, issues, scenarios

My battery life has been really good - easily lasting a full day with normal ( for me ) use.

I recently found that on my home wifi connection the battery would die very quickly and the phone was getting quite warm.

Using Conky ( thanks fnordianslip ) the system was running at between 30 - 95% cpu at 600MHz and the culprit seemed to be mafw (Media application Framework ).

To cut a long story short I stopped and started MediaTomb on my Ubuntu desktop. The system is now running at around 5% and 250MHz and the battery usage is now back to normal.

This obviously wont be everyone's problem but it may well explain a few.

I don't know anything about Linux so everything you just said flew over my head. I don't know how to code or get into terminal or whatever, any way I can see if that process is running on my phone without being an IT engineer?

Something weird to share:

I thought my battery would charger better if i charge it while it is off. SO I turned it off yesterday night and I just turn it back on and as soon as I turned it on the led became orange and started to charge again any idea why it wouldnt charge full while its off?
