NFS is quite consistent saying they will have N900 in stock next week. I've called them before yesterday, and been there yesterday...

I'm torn between taking on a Vodaphone contract and waiting to see if the Tmobile ones reappear...
Any advice?

There's no point tying youself into an expensive 24 month contract if in a month's time a better deals arrives. And who knows, by then someone on this forum could be disappointed with their phone and may want to offload it. There's a guy at work selling his 1 month old N97 for £250 now, hefty discount!

Surely it's more of a direct debit check (to make sure the account is real) than a credit check?

Not a direct debit check, more like a card verification check.
To ensure that the card is valid and it is registered at the billing address. This helps speed up the end process for delivery.

24 months isn't an issue for most people. Some people get on that contract just for the handset then put it on the bay to pay for the entire contract.

try a nokia store, i went into the flagship one on Regents St (London) and they are now able to do contracts, I'm due an upgrade on my current Voda contract so Nokia are upgrading my package and sorting out an unbranded N900 as a free upgrade...no waiting til Jan/Feb for a branded one!

When do they actually do the credit checks on contracts? When you place the order or just before they ship it?

On the day they're shipping the handset to you.

Hey you all, I've been lurking for a week or so an thought I'd say 'Hey'.

I went to the Regent St Nokia store yesterday and had a play with the N900. Asked one of the sales guys about contracts. The Nokia store are exclusively doing t-mobile and vodafone contracts at the mo. The phones should be ready to pick up on Thurs or Fri, but I've been advised to telephone in advance to make sure phones are available.

Otherwise, it will be late Jan before you can get the N900 on contract in a Voda or T-mobile store.
