Fact is, sailfish devices don't exist. My jolla screen died a long time ago and those official versions for sony devices are........ well, not really 100% there as we al know. And even if they are, sailfish didn't move much from the inception and sadly, there's not much you can do with it.
I really like the whole UI, how it looks and feels but when put everything on paper, it feels like when I got the first iPhone in a time when I was using P990. Which was 2 years old device. Except, browser on iPhone was waaaay better and sailfish browser is really outdated now. And while I can avoid "an app for everything" on android and use browser, on saillfsh, browser suck. And there are no apps for everything.
So, it's great as a phone, maybe as music player and thanks to rinigus, we have navigation app now. But good luck doing any work on sailfish. :(:(:(

I have recently been aware about the final form of the device. It looks great, reminds me the days with the Nokia N900. So my question goes like this: The sailfish port is an ongoing project by the community(which means lack of android apps support, drivers etc) or the company plans to push it somehow? Is it a doable project or just the cheese for the rat? Despite the "official" state of sailfish os for sony devices I read that they disappoint being frustrating to use as daily drivers. Are we buying an android device with a physical keyboard and the hope for an incomplete sailfish os port on it?

Yes, we are buying android phone. Since that's the only OS that will be available. What one will do with it after that.....

I would be perfectly fine with an incomplete OS port on this phone, especially if dual-boot with an alternative Android clone (more privacy oriented) is possible to run those apps I don't particularly like, but may need occasionally.

Sailfish OS is far from perfect, but what I tend to value more is that it suits my demands far better than any of the major OSes.

Curious if the dimensions changed at all. I remember reading at some point that the less curved screen changed things a bit. Not a big deal but just wondering

Depends on who you mean by 'the company' in this case. FX Tec are assisting with the community effort, providing prototype and pre-production devices to community porters early in the process. I do not think Jolla is involved at all at this stage.

In the community we have a number of well working ports that many people use on a daily basis, and I hope this will be one of them.

Until FX Tec decide to ship the device with anything other than Android, then yes its an Android device

I received also the link for payment (in separate email).

After payment the order status still shows "Your pre-order has been received" and payment status "charged at future date". However, after giving the payment information I got another email stating that "order has been received" so I suppose that the payment went through and I can now concentrate on waiting.

That slightly irritated me too.
But the "order" has been received email came instantly and in the account i can now see my order where before only a pre-order was visible. Maybe the wording needs slight improvement for non-native speakers?

EDIT, FYI my first attempt failed with CC declined. Same credentials worked next attempt. I guess it is due to the amount of requests?

Only to clarify:

There are two menu items on the top left one is pre-order and one is order. Are you sure you are not looking into order site where it will only displayed if paid?
What do you have in pre-order site? I have an entry in both now after paying via the link in the email. Did you get the email?
Do you maybe have two accounts, one from forum and one from pre-order?

"Pre-orders do not show up in customer accounts. This will show up after the payment is taken once the link’s been emailed to you."

So now I have 48 hours to find out if I can manually map some of the symbol keys on the right to be ÆØÅ so I don't buy something I can't use. Guess there won't be a scandic version since they never reply to any questions about it here or on the fxtec forums.

Call the credit card institute.
I was called by my issuing institute (LBB) because the amount triggered a warning on their side and my card was temporary blocked since i never bought something >500€ with that card.
The Agent told me it looked suspicious because 1st i made an error when entering "date until valid" (:o) and a second failed attempt was made on FX side before a 3rd attempt was correct but triggered the warning.
It looks like "They are manually handling the withdrawls" was the comment from my agent.
He actually asked me about FXtec and looked at their site while having me on the phone. lol. Hopefully i was able to raise their score :p

Yes my credit card blocked the charge thinking it was fraud. Called them and cleared it all up. Paid for the order.
I've never bought a new phone in my life, but I'm beyond excited about this one. Hopefully it's everything I wanted

Mine was rejected too (Visa), the only way was to use a third party account with an aggregating card that I can use to pay from multiple bank accounts (Mastercard). I have not tried with a "normal" Mastercard, didn't have mine with me, but I doubt the issue is specific to any type anyway. The issue was with the actual date of payment, probably because we don't pay today but just commit to allow the future payment.

Few days I also asked Fxtec customer support about the scandic layout, and got this answer:
As most of us Scandinavian fanatics are willing to get their Pro1's as soon as possible and thus will accept QWERTY or QWERTZ if Scandinavian is not available, I'm afraid that there will not be enough demand for Scandic layout in the future either. I just did pay my QWERTZ Pro1, so I don't really think I'd buy a second unit even if they decided to provide scandic layout. And I think this will be the situation with most of us.

PS. As I mostly type in Finnish, I don't see much point on having physical keyboard just for occasional English typing :D

In Finland we have just ä, ö and å. While it is understandable for the reader if you use just a and o instead, it is far from being same. And it looks just like what it is: writing Finnish with American keyboard. As said, it is easily understandable, but still it isn't something I'd like to pay 650€ for. For me, the whole point on having physical keyboard is that I don't have to use on-screen keyboard. So the keyboard should provide everything I need and if it doesn't, there's no much point of having it at all.

Just for curiosity, In Finland we have a nice word "älämölö", pronounced as [ælæmœlœ] and it means the noise made by a bunch of people talking out loud. If you write it without scandic letters, it looks like "alamolo" and the meaning is something like "dick down there"

In Norwegian the Æ, Ø and Å are used in a lot of words, you could write AE, OE and AA in emergencies, I sometimes do that when I'm out of the country and unable to change the keyboard layout, but it's a pain to type and annoying to read.

The letter Å is a very common letter(my mother's name even starts with it:D). On it's own Å means "to", like "to do". Obviously it's used a lot, and two A's can never replace it, even though a Norwegian would understand what you mean(they would also understand you don't have access to a scandic keyboard and assume you are abroad.

Changed my order to QWERTZ, those extra letters will work as ÆØÅ for me, and I'll just type Y with the Z. I'm the only user anyway so it will probably be alright.
