Re: [Announce] kernel-power v49

i had kp48.it was not stable and as far as i remeber i read many posts in this forum and also other forums,it has nt been stable for others as well.it drained more battery and few other problem which i dint understand(being a noob).so many developers or not noob people urged them(including me) to stay with kp47. i hope this kp49 is much more stable in draining less battery ( rather save more power if possible) and solve few other problems. but one question. y kp48 wasnt updated which made it unstable rather a new version popped out.

Yes, it is still true, having in mind that page remapping is disabled only for ramzswap. So far noone has reported ill effects from ramzswap when using disksize_kb less that 96MB so no reason to enable page remap.

bq2700 no working anymore?

You said it yourself (#1630) "I saw it and install directly, no need thinking"

The bq module was disabled already in KP48 for (at least theoretically) good reasons.

Well, that is not what my impression is.... As far as I understand, most people think KP48 is rock stable, and so it behaves here too. The few cases you see could easily be caused by 1) pushing the device beyond what it can handle or 2) simply pebkac

I second that. KP48 is stable on my device as well. I can even use wl1251 drivers again without reboot when connecting to AP, after removing speedpatch / batterypatch and installing osso-wlan patch.

But @certain "users": KP48 is in 'extras-devel'. If you still do not understand what this implies, then do not complain if something's off, and basically STFU.

(btw bonus points for mentioning PEBKAC :D - never heard that again after that certain "User Friendly" strip.)

Buddy, it's not a chat, it's a forum, where you leave a message and then go somewhere else. BTW there is a green/grey bulb near to your nickname above the message, so you can see, wheather the user is active or went offline. No insult, just helping you.

Nevertheless, Alfred's post still applies to you.

@pali: my guess is ramzswap is internal kernel module now, right?

No, because it's simply not made for you. If we would "teach" you, you would complain about this and about that "not working" / "not working correctly", and bleeding-edge software should be only installed by people who know how to get rid of issues / solve their problems (like a non-booting phone, or startup issues) by themselves. We (mostly pali / freemangordon / colin.stephane) already have enough support traffic by the clueless. and this is not a support sandbox where everyone should cry inbetween if something's not right because he/her basically blew his /her phone.

I hope this is understandable? If you would know how to recover your device in case of errors, you would also know how to install when encountering issues.

Hi dignified,

I used wget for download and installed it with dpkg in same order like in palis post on page 166.

Greetings,

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v49

@pali: pre-release kp49 flashed, working, ramzswap working, testing wl1251 now.

@all: use modprobe from now on (it's better/safer than insmod anyway), procedure:
Code:

modprobe ramzswap num_devices=1 disksize_kb=98304
swapon /dev/ramzswap0
swapoff /dev/mmcblk0p3
swapoff /dev/mmcblk1p2

(with second partition on SD being a swap partition)

EDIT: wl1251 also confirmed working (used fAircrack for checking)

EDIT 2: too early... after another reboot, modprobe with disksize_kb parameter supplied results ALWAYS in instant reboot. I've seen this behavior with colin.stephane's kp48 builds too. Some ideas where to check? I've sysklogd installed.

So, it works the first reboot after kernel flashing, but never after that. Every time a spontaneous reboot during which the custom kernel settings are not loaded.

EDIT 3: Confirmed. Compcache works only if:
- i freshly dpkg'd -i kernel, modules, and flasher (in that sequence, kernel-settings were retained from kp47)
AND
- performed a reboot.
And only then it works after this first reboot. From each consecutive reboot onwards. i observe the instant reboots after ramzswap0 initializing with disksize_kb. If i solely insert the module, no reboot occurs, but of course i cannot initialize it separately.

Greetings,
SirSocke

I'll teach you if you decide to shut up..
download the flasher, modules, kernel, and bootimg *if ure using bootmenu..*
first install kernel, then install modules then flasher..
and oh, first, download it from here then copy to phone and dpkg -i
and im not sure of the order, but if u have a conflict, try rearranging like flasher first then kernel then modules.. jus use ur brain.
and no, u can remove the kernel power v48 *older* but wont make any difference.. jus install em anyway, they'll be upgraded..

You did not supply a disksize_kb (or memlimit) parameter during modprobe. It can work like this too, but then it needs rzscontrol which we do not have:

Code:

modprobe ramzswap;
rzscontrol /dev/block/ramzswap0 --disksize_kb=32768 --init;
swapon /dev/block/ramzswap0;

sorry i forgot, here it is:
Code:

Nokia-N900:~# modprobe ramzswap num_devices=1 disksize_kb=98304
Nokia-N900:~# swapon /dev/ramzswap0
swapon: /dev/ramzswap0: Invalid argument
Nokia-N900:~# swapon /dev/mmcblk0p3
swapon: /dev/mmcblk0p3: Device or resource busy

try this

insmod /lib/modules/current/ramzswap.ko disksize_kb=81920
swapon /dev/ramzswap0
swapoff /dev/mmcblk0p3
swapon /dev/mmcblk0p3

@Alfred: what's the dmesg output?

DeeGee 2011-09-22 14:46

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v49

Were the commands copy-pasted? In that case the swapon command might have came too soon after loading ramzswap. That's the reason you need to use "sleep 1" when enabling ramzswap on a script.
