Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Just to say that I upgraded a couple of days ago and there has been a marked improvement in the performance of my little N900. The system seems significantly faster and memory usage seems down as well (these probably go together, as we all know).

Thanks!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

hi all. im new to the cssu updates. I recently did the stable version, then enabled 2 of the cssu repositories. Which showed a maemo update. Is it safe to install this? Whats the difference?

Hi Freemangordon, first of all thanks for your support for our lovely n900.I am with u-boot by Pali and kp52,and every time when i installed cssu-thumb always stock kernel won't boot.Never mind how many times i trying with u-boot-update-bootmenu or flash only kernel the result=0 i know that,if i not with kp51,kp52,the cssu-kernel taken their place, but is there any chance to live together cssu-thumb+kp51,52+stock kernel

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Hi everyone, I need a little information.
I have updated the CSSU and I don't know if everything has gone correctly.

When I type in xterminal: uname -r , it says 2.6.28.10-power52.
On the other hand when I enter in the system setting -> About Community SSU it displays:

Community SSU installed
Version: 21.2011.38-1Tmaemo8.2+thumb1
Flavor: Testing

So, are the firmware and the CSSU the latest ones?

stock kernel doesnt have thumb support ( the 2 workarounds too).
So your device wont boot with stock kernel+cssu thumb.

this one Extended Locked Media Player Control. its sad that qwerty12 didn't released source codes of this app.

problems i'm facing after latest updates are that it can pause/play songs when camera key is pressed fully but can't next/prev songs.

cssu thumb needs kernel power51 or above / kernel cssu.
But kernel cssu is auto installed if stock kernel or kernel power 50 or lower is detected.

Did you updated via HAM or via terminal or FAM

type in X-terminal
uname -a

It will give you the kernel you are running.
Also did you upgraded to cssu thumb via Hildon application manager (the in-built one) or did you upgraded via x-terminal(apt-get upgrade) or Faster application manager?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I don't want to sound rude, but I think that you should head to http://wiki.maemo.org and reads everything from "beginners" section, first. It doesn't look like installing kernels and cssu-thumb is good thing to do for you, yet - you're risking getting unbootable phone, which will require reflashing (=losing some things, that you haven't probably, backup'ed).

After reading beginners section, you should be safe to use CSSU-Stable. Then, reading opening post of kernel-power thread (I'm not giving direct link on purpose - you should be able to find it via either wiki, or TMO), may get you ready for non-vanilla kernels (if, and only if, you'll completely understand what you have been reading about).

If everything succeed up to that point, come back to cssu-thumb and read opening post (again, most of the times, useful info is in first post of thread that interest you). After understanding it, you should be safe to go.

Sorry, if it sounds too bothersome - this device and it's tweaks are for people that like to gain real experience and skills, not just for "one-click install, and everything works on it's own".

cheers and good luck,
/Estel

I'm having problems updating to the latest release on both of my N900s. I have been attempting to update using HAM, but resorted to apt to see what the problem was in more detail.

The output I'm seeing from CLI is:

I've managed to download (using wget) and install the package using 'dpkg -i ...' but the phone seems to insist on installing it again each time, and gets the "size mismatch" error.

Edit: I've also done the usual "apt-get clean" and cleared out /var/cache/apt/archives/partial and a few other things, but to no avail.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Actually, I've now manually installed all other pkgs including the latest CSSU thumb upgrade.

So it's just the libx11... package, which perhaps makes my comments off-topic ? but is there any reason both of my n900s are unable to update libx11-data_1.1.99.6+0m5+withxcb_all.deb ?

freemangordon 2013-07-21 09:56

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I don't know what this package is, but it is not part of cssu-thumb. Maybe try to remove it, to see what application has pulled it as a dependency.

it is

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=66

you can remove it as freemangordon told you or you can go her and download

libx11-data_1.1.99.6+0m5+withxcb_all.deb
libx11-with-xcb-6_1.1.99.6+0m5+withxcb_armel.deb
libx11-xcb1_1.1.99.6+0m5+withxcb_armel.deb

and put in folder and run

HTML Code:

dpkg --force-all -i *.deb

If you upgraded via H-A-M previously.

Try upgrading via x-terminal.

disable cssu devel repository.
enable only nokia repository , extras repository , cssu testing and cssu thumb.

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

you might need to run apt-get upgrade 2-3 times or manually update some packages.

DON'T REBOOT.

If you can't upgrade some packages post here before rebooting.

Thanks for the reply, FMG. It seems to be the most up to date version of libx11-data, which a few hundred X-related packages seem to depend on, so I cannot remove it.
