The first post or wiki entry doesn't reflect this. Anyway it got fixed itself.

openmediaplayer pulls libplayback which is binary-only. Are there plans to make it work using only open-source deps? Otherwise, are there other good open-source touch-friendly players?

It crashes if i tap "shuffle" button of the main menu more than once in a row.

Some links for reverse engineering:

http://maemo.org/api_refs/5.0/5.0-fi...k-1/files.html
http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation/...in#libplayback
https://wiki.maemo.org/Free_Maemo#libplayback
https://wiki.maemo.org/Porting/Audio
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=67157

It's a good practice to remain integrated with the operating system, even if there are closed blobs within the OS. Don't like closed-ness of blobs? Reverse engineer them, make them open-source.

Best wishes.

You can get a minimalistic file browser by installing this plugin pack: http://maemo.org/packages/view/mafw-grilo-source/.

I tried furiously tapping the shuffle button, but I could not reproduce that. The main window should be locked immediately after the first tap, until you return from the now playing window, so I have no idea where this crash could be coming from. If you know how to obtain a backtrace, there is openmediaplayer-dbg package in the repositories.

Guys... First of all, thanks for such a great player! Love it.
Is it possible to add equalizer to OMP? I wonder why it doesn't have such basic feature... Or is it possible to activate system-wide equalizer in Maemo? Recently, I have found that N900 have no any work solution for this except Symphony audioplayer...

sixwheeledbeast 2015-08-06 21:29

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I don't know if this is just me but OMP isn't remembering the last played track if you reboot.
The default behaviour of MP is that it remembers the last playlist and track. For me on OMP I end up at the beginning of the playlist.

Anyway I can debug if it's just me?

marmistrz 2015-08-07 08:22

I do not see a connection to tapping the shuffle button multiple times and I still cannot reproduce that, but indeed it is possible that under certain circumstances OMP segfaults there. I have left it unfixed for now, because IIRC OMP has problems of similar nature in other parts of code and I have been planning to look into all of them simultaneously.

There is something called mafw-gst-eq-renderer, although I do not know how well it works.

Yes, MAFW does not save the current track. The stock player accomplishes this independently, by saving the track number in GConf and restoring it later. This is not very robust, as various things can happen when the player is not running, like the playlist being modified or switched by another application. This is why I would prefer to have this feature in MAFW, but until someone steps in and implements it there, I am adding this to my todo list for OMP.

Meanwhile I am releasing OMP 20150812-1.
  • Fixed an occasional crash when opening a file from an external application.
  • Fixed some memory leaks.
  • Various code cleanups.
  • New translation: Spanish (Argentina) by hobarrera and jmo707.

talking again about dlna.. since it seems that OMP is the only maemo application really working with dlna servers.
Do you think you could add a way to assign a custom action to open unsupported file types (images, pdf, books...)?
Have you had the time to give a look at the stop/resume playback of dlna videos?

It seems if I pull the headset out OMP pauses as it should and if I insert the headset straight away, playback resumes as it should.

However, if I remove the headset and wait a while before inserting, playback will not resume correctly, it also seems to get stuck on that track. Play and skip backwards no longer function correctly. I then have to skip forward and then backward before I can play the track again.

This happened again, hopefully this helps.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Hi guys. I've recently lost my original beloved Nokia N900 and had to quickly buy another. One of my favourite all time apps was of course OMP.
Now that I have installed it and started using it, I've noticed the lyric feature is not working. Yes, I did go to settings and set yes to lyrics, and have ticked all of the lyric databases.
i get the fetching lyrics message, but it comes back with 'Visit www.azlyrics.com for these lyrics'.
The song is a Pink Floyd song, The Final Cut and I've had the lyrics for the entire album before in my original N900. Damn I miss that phone!
Any ideas guys?
Thank you

I'd rather avoid it, because I don't want to bloat OMP with a download manager for a marginal feature. However, I think I could add an option to open items from OMP's UPnP browser in a web browser, which would take care of managing downloads and temporary files.

Is it the same thing as the seeking problem? If so, I have already mentioned in http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=1671 that this is not a problem with OMP. As a side note, seeking works for some video formats.

Apparently there was a change on AZLyrics, which causes OMP to extract a wrong part of the page. A workaround for this is to disable the AZLyrics plugin, but this is no longer necessary with today's update, OMP 20150829-1:
  • Fixed a regression that caused extra empty playlist items to appear in Now Playing.
  • Updated the AZLyrics plugin to work again.

Yes! Just updated and voila, all the lyrics are back! Thank you so much. OMP is really the reason I have a N900 to be honest. :D

It seems a nice approach. At the end, the target is open the file in some way. ;)

Yes, it's the same thing of seeking problem. ..Seeking works for some video formats? Opening dlna videos, the "time bar" is always greyed/disabled with any kind of video and codec served by minidlna.
Then, at the post i replied with:

...and didn't received response.

Do you think you could add a button to show real media's metadata as detected my mafw? (..Maybe near the fit screen flag of player)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Hello,
I would like to add a new feature to the multimedia player. A function that repeats the current track.

I see her as a button to 3 actions:
  • Not to repeat playlist
  • repeat playlist
  • Repeat the current song

I could add myself, if you have a repository for source code and developed this functionality.

Thank you

Looked around through the various ways of searching,
any idea how to get DVD ISO's to work with Open Media Player?
I had already installed Decoders Support.
Yet I get a message AC3 cannot be decoded or it crashes back to the media player home screen.

With KM player and gstreamer or mplayer as selected player seems to work fine, after overclocking.

Just curious if anyone has found a way to do it with the fabulous Open Media Player.

Better late than never, OMP 20161108 is about to hit the repository.
  • File details dialog for viewing complete metadata.
  • Files from the UPnP browser can be opened using a web browser.
  • Got rid of the half-working support for last playing song stored in GConf.
  • Improved resilience to MAFW crashes.
  • Rewritten MAFW renderer adapter.
  • More complete MAFW error logging.
  • Minor UI adjustments and internal tweaks.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I haven't restarted device for a few days (battery died) and FlopSwap is reporting "Used 1161 Mb (113) % of 1023Mb". So take that in to consideration when I say the following. I'm running the thumb version from gidzzz's repo.

First thing I've noticed is bringing up Videos library (set to Videos - latest) is a lot quicker...like almost instant. Previously it seemed to show videos from camera, then slowly insert cuteTube and other videos to the beginning of the list. Also searching for a video by name is a lot quicker.

Playback wise, I haven't seen the animated loading dots. Don't know if they still exist but I haven't seen any yet because the video seems to load almost instantly. Even on the higher bitrate 480p files I have encoded myself it is about 0.5-1 sec before it plays.

Don't remember if it was there previously, but on playback there is now a small i in the bottom left to show video info when the playback controls are visible. Quite handy for testing different files.

Great update from what I've found so far!

I would guess that the normal and the thumb version has same source code. I don't know if there is a git-repo.

So you will find the version in maemo packages:

Hey. Wanted to make feature request for OMP. So straight to the point, would be handy to have user selectable behavior of volumerocker and cam launch button. For example disabled, skip track back and forth for volume and play/pause for cam trigger. Also is it possible to implement a feature that would even out the output volume of different mp3 files? Also timeshift feature for internet radio would be neat. With user selectable buffersize of course. Thanks for the great work so far.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Quick issue report:

I have a few shortcuts to play some internet streams like:

run-standalone.sh dbus-send --print-reply --dest=com.nokia.mediaplayer /com/nokia/mediaplayer com.nokia.mediaplayer.mime_open string:"http://www.listenlive.eu/uk_virginradio.m3u"

That i exec while OMP is closed to go quickly to my preferred music/news streaming. (or using cron)

This kind of shortcut works... 60% of times.
When it doesn't works, OMP has a strange behavior:
It starts playing the last mp3 track/album just like as it was video stream!
And you think: Hey they are trasmitting the same song i chosed yesterday... :)

The only thing i have observed is that it happens more often when the phone is very busy (just connected to the web, downloading emails, apt updates...)

EDIT:

same issue but more problematic happens using camera-ui2 in video mode.
If you try to play the video just recorded you obatin OMP starting playing the last mp3 song!
