hmmm.... May be I am too serious to the contest , I wonder how many people would like to test each application before vote? Although I will not really test all the applications , at least I will test those interest me. The no. of application of Desktop and location section is still fine , but if more group is added , I feel a little bits laborious.

Ben, I think you have the right idea about testing and voting :)

In the 3 threads I have done so far, I found that once I've made the original post with the poll.. and before Ive made the second post with info on all the entries.. there is already several votes cast. So not everyone is as patient or considered as you, there are some people who are voting right away for their favorite.

System & Utilities is by far our biggest category, if I remember right there are around 22 entries. To install and test out each one of those is asking a lot of even the most patient people - it's probably much easier to stick with those you are most interested in.

It's come to my attention we have a problem - the forum poll has a maximum of 10 choices. We have more than 10 entries for System & Utilities, Graphic & Multimedia, and the beginners comp... :(

The only way I can think to get around this problem is to split them up into qualifying rounds, with a maximum of 10 going into the final vote to win the prizes.

Thoughts?

Oh! I think it should fine. As it is the restriction of the forum system :(

I would like to suggest the following flow:

1) Divide the software into few group. The no. of application for each group should be similar. (How to divide the group? Random? alphabet order? Registration order? Order of md5sum of the package name?)

2) Each people can only vote for one application in each group. (As the multiple choice options in forum can not set a limit. )

3) The best X will go the final round. X = 10 / no. of group. The result should be floored. e.g If no. of group is 3 , then the best 3 of each group should be entry final round)

What do you think?

What about writing Reggie fast a PM to ask if it is possible to raise the limit of 10 possible choices for our contest?

Perhaps it is only a software parameter in the forum settings and he recognizes how important and good our project is? :)

In my opinion this shouldn't hurt in other parts of the community to raise this limit. (if it's possible)

Good idea, PM sent

Hi Reggie, we've a bit of a problem with the coding competition.. (http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_Coding_Competition_1) .. in 3 of the categories we have more than 10 entries (In Systems & Utilities there are 20+). We are currently creating voting threads and have used forum poll for the previous 3 categories. Only now I've realised that the maximum number in a poll is 10.

Is that something you can change on the admin side, and if so could we have permission to create threads with higher entry numbers? We are posting on the "Applications" section if it makes a difference.

Thanks

I think it sounds like our plan B :) If we can't get the forum poll number raised then that's what we'll do.

Ouh, your Link is not working. The ) is to much. And you should have said that we need 22 at maximum. ;)

Round of applause for Reggie, he just PM'd back to let us know he's raised the max limit to 25. Barring some sneaky ninja entries onto my list, and I have it heavily guarded, we should be good :)

Seriously.. Ive been messing up links all over the place, even a few in the competition entries. It's a good job people are watching over me!

Must be cos Im getting old :)

Which is another reason to please check and double check anything I have put on your competition entries! I can't be held responsible for my own senility :p

Great! :)

So I guess I can discard my second Idea to do a qualifying round by creating a tread with a single post for every contribution and count the number of thanks. Its not anonymous and the people can vote several times, but I guess good enought to elect the 10 for the final round. ;)

But due to Reggie wo don't need a qualifying round. So, sadly, I have to pick a single project out of 22 in the biggest category. Mmmh, hard stuff.

I'm also planning to develop another app (to increase my chances ;)), but I'll hold up on that one until I'm finish with the tumblr app.

Btw, I'm quite new with Qt (and Maemo development in general), so I'm wishing myself good luck on this. :) It's a good thing that Nokia finally releases PR1.2 today, so I can be comfortable with developing Qt 4.6 apps.

Good luck to everyone participating, and thanks to the people sponsoring this competition!

Hmmm... im ready to go with the "Other" thread apart from this one entry. I have the entry in the wiki but it's not linked to a thread, no package, no code, no garage project for it i can find... sent pm to JMacalinao earlier but no reply yet...

Anyone know anything about this "Tumblr for N900" project, does it exist? Time's running out for it..

Edit:
Actually it's two entries, as also there's Khertan's KhtEditor

So i'm currently releasing KhtEditor (http://khertan.net/khteditor) if nothing goes wrong during test.

And KhtEditor should be available soon : http://khertan.net/khteditor

.. doesnt appear to be ready for testing, not has there been any update since this above post. Im not sure if it's fit for the competition... Im sure he's done a lot of work, but from his website and gitorious I have no idea how to judge what he has completed

Edit2: Through a bit of googling, I found Khertan's twitter page and he says

#KhtEditor first Release 0.0.1 is available on my repository for n900. Features are missing but for #python dev is faster than #PyGTKEditor

So i guess that is a release. I'll put a small entry in for it on the voting thread and a link to his page. If people are interested to try it out they can research further I guess.. :o

It's really only because it's the 1st comp and in the spirit of trying to get everyone who wanted to enter involved Im keeping his entry in though, really.. we shouldn't have to be hunting down bits of info for people to build their entries for them :(

Time's out for Tumblr, unfortunately, as all I have is a project name and an author... I have nothing to link to for users to test..
