From my experience stock is not usually held back by stores.
More commonly manufacturers, with big releases i have never seen much hardware stock if any come in early (by early i mean before its supposed to be sold). The only time i can say i've seen plenty of stock arrive before release is with games. I used to manage to warehouse in my old store so seen more than my fair share of deliveries come in. GTA san andreas for instance, we had loads of copies turn up maybe a week before release but this has never happened with hardware.
As far as i can remember when the wii was release we had i think 2 units turn up and again from memory i think these didnt show up till the day they were supposed to be sold.

I think we all just need to play that rather frustrating game of waiting for as long as it takes.

Seems like flagshipstoreUK removed the notice about N900 availability in store tomorrow.

Flagship won't have it tomorrow.
Just called Nokia telling them I'm going to cancel the pre-order and get it in the shop they said don't because stock is not due to arrive until Friday and flagship will definately won't have them to sell tomorrow...

Probably means the same thing "Shipping" meant on 11/10 when no one had any idea when retailers and even Nokia stores would have them in.

Yes they did - it usually takes within 2 weeks of shipping to distributors/retailers. Only the loons on here expected instant delivery.

And the 'loons' working for Nokia's UK retail outfit. As you well know.

But apparently Nokia trust them with their brand name. Maybe they should either not do that, or take some trouble to help MPD avoid stuffing things up.

If by boat- you are correct. I do this stuff for a living (well, part of my job as material manager) for a global company. The other scenario is the product was STILL at the factory being made, but green-lighted for shipment.

Nokia should have said nothing about product shipping to their sell-in channel partners. Consumers are oblivious of this stage of the supply chain process.

added:

Actually- it is worse than that, since it was from factory, so still being made on factory floor and likely only some were boxed- not even actual outbound shipments to sell-in partners.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Sorry to post yet another "I called so-in-so and they said..." but here it is:

I called Amazon (USA) to follow up on this recent Nokia(USA) announcement. Spoke to a guy who actually did some digging around for me and he found that Amazon is expecting delivery of the N900's from Nokia on November 21st. He said that in light of the announcement by Nokia they may receive them earlier, but the expectation is still on Novemeber 21st.

I asked about the turn around time and he said that they generally get them out the same day if they come in during the morning and the next day if they come after noon.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to feed the fire, just sharing what little info I have received. I have no idea if what this guy said is true. Take it for what it is worth.

For all the haters of these threads...I'm sorry you are so frustrated by the spam, but this has been a great outlet for all my nervous anticipation for the N900. The only thing I wish is that people would stop taking out their frustrations on others in the thread.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

There seems to be a wide gap between what those who know about the industry read into a press release and what those who are just "standard consumers" read in to one.

Maybe Nokia should make their statements clearer, for the benefit of those who dont do this kind of product chasing on a regular basis.

For me, knowing the difference between an actual Nokia statement and a statement made by MPD on their behalf is not that easy, especially when browsing blogs and forums that regurgitate the info without such a distinction.

Youd think the actual Nokia website might be the best source for accurate info then... except its not.

It depends on what your definition of "is" is.

That's really the story here about Nokia's Launch practice isn't it? The average guy shouldn't have to decypher anything. Look at HTC and Androids recent launches. Look at Apple's launches. This is totally inept. I always thought the Germanic/Scandinavians were masters of efficiency and process management. Apparently not with Nokia.

So now the N900 has been "shipped", has "landed" and is "available". What are the next steps between "available" and "in my freaking hands"?

Cool. We can track it along with you. May be good idea to remove tracking number. Some of us will do anything for an N900 including show up at you're doorstep and sign for the package.;)

I called the Flagship store in NY City. Some very bored dude answered and he said they don't have the N900 yet and they expected "before the Holidays".

I bet if I call again and talk to somebody else I'll get a different answer alltogether. It's totally useless...

The closest thing I saw to a definite date on MPD's website was w/c 16th November. That's this week, they still have several days eft to fulfil that.

Did you check the status of your order in dell? Did it say it was shipped? When exactly did you order?

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

hypnotik: I edited my post to show that the guy told me Amazon (USA) expected to receive the shipment on November 21st.

Forgive me for being so vague. Especially since Amazon has been sending so many emails about Dec. 25th.

Nokia is neither Germanic nor Scandinavian, altough Scandinavians are Germanic.

'In transit' now, so clearly the truck just drove out of the depot in the last 2 minutes.

Please note that the release date for the N900 has been put back by the manufacturer rather than by eXpansys, but the new release date is expected to be the end of this month. We have a delivery due into our French warehouse on the 30th November.

Regards
