I'd rather see them making a site and official communication channel, instead of twitting such stuff.

The thing that concerns me is this bit of their description "with a strong focus on China".
Made alarm bells ring

Not really it does not matter where they start from, China or America as long as it allows them to properly start up and gain market share. I think it's obvious we'll be able to acquire Jolla mobiles here in Europe

Replacing Jussa with another one as CEO maybe a good move. CEO has to be very detail oriented and get the stuff done. Dreamers are not good at CEO function, so I am happy to see that they are realizing the need for better leadership. If Jussa was in charge of Harmattan, he executed poorly. But the concepts are dreamlike, and that is perhaps a better position for him. He has actually been demoted in this shuffle.

Not really, no. Also, his name is Jussi, not Jussa.

I hope that's the case and they haven't been roped into a deal with Nokia to neglect the Western markets so they can can get a foothold with their Wincrap.

If you go from CEO to member of the board, it is usually a demotion in the sense that you are not as active in the day to day operations. that is how majority of companies operate.

Jussi got them awareness, now Jolla need to deliver a product for which Marc has been working on according to the statement so its the right move...It would be a demotion if he was assigned onto the same Board for the same thing for which he was CEO for but in this case he is handing the reigns to Jolla per se and taking over a position in the Board that will steer Sailfish OS...

Remember Sailfish OS will be funded by an alliance that Jussi helped charm into formation in the first place so it is only apt he ends up in the Board of Sailfish OS and remain slightly neutral towards the other partners of the alliance instead of staying on as CEO and risking damaging his credibility if/when Jolla and the alliance disagree on certain matters (this disagreement can be of any form and face it; disagreements always occur)...

So in short, not a demotion but a smart move by Jolla...

Well at this moment we clearly don't know why and what's really happening but hopefully next month once the UI and SDK is announced and shown to us we will also get more information. Anything we say now is just a speculation

It's strange that they linking jolla mobile. Fi on their Facebook Page. But it's never working. A CEO change in twitter is a bit strange even for a company with 50-200 employees with a pretty big budget.

I'm quite sure there is a reason for this, but I do agree such announcements should be handled via official channels!

Also, keyboard?

C'mon Jolla, I am rooting for you. Just don't let us all down with an N9'esque stinker.

Oh, BTW.... when are the first mysterious, unofficial leaks to be released? If they follow industry standards I'd expect around Nov 15th, but it could be different with Jolla. Anyone knows the schedule for those?

I'm not sure how high-tech their product is. If they forgot it in a bar. It might go for garbage or a mobile phone from the 90's. Marc Dillon looks like he visiting a bar to0 often. My bet is on him when it comes to losing a prototype :D

15th would be great date for a leak. Let's hope you know what you are talking about.

What is the new CEO saying and doing? Would be nice with an presentation, Q&A and some new photos on google. He's is almost a ghost.
I hope he isn't elopified as Jussi and using the word ecosystem all day long.

I need some new photos for his fishing trips with Elop.

Whats going on in helsinki. Is it even possible to contact jolla in mail? Will they provide SDK via twitter. That would be uber lol.

Can someone living in the city go and knock on their door and see what's going on and if they need help with a web server and design and implementation of Jolla. Com? Might be a great idea to outsource to community.

You really are very impatient person, aren't you? :)

It's really quiet in Helsinki. I know a person who's part of the Jolla team, but the person won't tell me a thing about the upcoming device or anything else considering development. That's their style.

edit: And I respect that, even though it's kind of lame to announce things through twitter.

They are just aiming for a big reveal. I am sure that their website will be live when they really start announcing the customer related stuff (first the UI and SDK, later the phone itself).

Actually, for a company that claims to respect openness and freedom and butterflies, it's the most bizarre thing to communicate almost exclusively through a closed, proprietary channel such as twitter. That doesn't earn them good karma.

Yes, saying nothing I could respect (although it would be frustrating to us wannabe fanbois), but having Twitter as your official face to the world just seems flaky. But, I'm an old coot...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Yep. Let them use open channels - Diaspora, Identi.ca and so on. No mandatory Twitter and FB please.

benny1967 2012-10-17 15:14

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I would even understand that they use twitter just because of the userbase. I do not understand that they don't also post on identi.ca or some other federated status.net installation. Isn't there even a way to automatically mirror your content so you can cater both worlds with one dent/tweet?

Or just a simple (official) website...

- short description of jolla and what they are trying to do.
- Top structure of the company(CEO presentation)
- E-mail to company (phone later)
- Official statements(press releases).

that's required for now, nothing more needed. or do you need any thing else atm? The main goal is that all users have an official spot to look @, but also to refer to when i'm promoting jolla for anyone.

I agree but think of it: They a VERY small company and almost of them are geeks and not marketing guys/girls.

BUT I agree that is very dangerous to not have a big marketing team too... Sound more and more they will only release one phone and then die.

Or maybe there is another big coropration who really has intrests in "theyr" OS and Jolla is just a smoke what will come up from that other company later (hint: nokia? even if it really looks not likelly atm...)
