In the meantime in the crowdfounding world cz.nic is getting ready to release Linux/OpenWRT based Turris Omnia, previously known as Turris Lite router, in 2016.

"We are pushing to start wave 2 shipments a couple of weeks late, i.e., by the end of November."

"...a couple of weeks late..." it was already late! so late starting from when? the last Blog? the one before?

August 20, 2015 by JuhaniLassila
"Shipments for earlier Indiegogo contributors will start in early September, and shipments to pre-order customers from this phase are expected to start in the end of October."

September 2, 2015 by Marko Saukko
"but what I can say now is that the first group of contributors from our Indiegogo campaign will receive invitations to the Jolla shop to place their actual orders within a few days to start the delivery process."

October 8, 2015 by Antti Saarnio
"we have not succeeded in delivering the Jolla Tablet on time to our Indiegogo contributors, and we will miss the schedule for our pre-order customers, too."

"The good news is that we are shipping the first batch of the tablets now. At the same time we are preparing the second batch and aim to start shipping at the beginning of November."

September 22, 2015 by Irina Avetisova
"The Jolla Tablet project has finally reached the point that we can start the shipment process. The entire Jolla Team wants to apologize for all the delays, and thank you for your patience."

"For many of you it might still take a few weeks to get the invitation to place the order, but rest assured, the boat is now cruising and we’ll invite you to hop on board as soon as we can."

eekkelund 2015-11-11 22:06

I got the invite with the first wave, but where are my tablets? :/
Have they gotten wet?

Have we extended the sailing metaphor into the territory of rats and sinking ships yet? It may help us shed some moaners.

Android is not great, but windows is even worse. Used to have a wireless charging Nokia windows for the camera and xbox feature, and regretted.

The greatest thing I've done with that WP was that I tested wireless charging using an EM stove in a wokplace, it worked well. Reason I used WP was even if it exploded, I didn't care...

Your tablet is at the bottom of the sea. Somewhere near a burning platform.

Well, the captain facked off long ago. I consider myself to be a paying customer of this titanic, and I expect the life boats to be in order.

You can tie yourself to they mast if you like.

Re: Discussion over the Design, Features, and Rollout of Jolla's new Tablet, Assuming that it isn't a Figment of our Collective Imagination

So i know people do not like my so called bashing and more like "water and wetness" and "boat" topics. So i listened to you and here is my input:

So it's raining really hard. There's a fundamental Christian living beside a river and it starts to flood. The sheriff's deputies come by and tell him he should leave before the river cuts off the road.

"The Lord will save me," he tells them.

The river is up to the front porch and the some folks come by in a boat and tell him to hop in and they'll take him to safety.

"The Lord will save me," he tells them.

The water rises above the first floor and the man has to climb on his roof. The National Guard comes by in a boat and begs the man to come with them.

"The Lord will save me," he tells them.

The waters keep rising and the man is clinging to his chimney. A helicopter appears and lowers a rope, but he refuses to go, telling them "The Lord will save me."
Finally he is standing on top of the chimney and the river is still rising.

"Lord," he calls out, "Lord, why have you forsaken me?"

The sky splits open and a HUGE voice booms out... "I sent two boats and a helicopter... What more do you want?"

If I was to use my sense of cynicism, it's pretty clear Jolla don't seem to have the funds required to deliver the tablets and maybe there is a lot more going on behind the scenes. The separation of the hardware and software to two different entities seems to be a way to protect the IP of Sailfish in the event of the hardware division folding.

I didn't participate in their campaign even though I was tempted but I think those who have paid taxes and received the 10 business days to delivery confirmation should read their terms. Maybe the terms already protect Jolla in the event of delays; if not simply sending a letter of demand would do much more for a refund than whining at them.

I am not far from doing it tbh. Going from Jolla/N9 to windows phone is like having handcuffs being put on, I can't do or change anything :(

I just needed a cheap phone to last me until 2016 for when Jolla 2 or intex phones are out.

What makes it even worse is that I didn't even for a Nokia lumia but for this odd manufacture called BLU

So what if you got this email...

Ahoy Sailors!
Well, um, the seas have been a bit rough of late with some issues in regards to supplies. You know, the usual stuff. Shortage of parts, delays, quality control issues, and a few price increases here there. As we would love to ship your tablet to you as soon as possible, we are going to need for all of you sailors to send us $50 more. Otherwise our ship may indeed capsize in these heavy seas. We hope this does not cause any inconvenience to any of our highly valued sailors.

Best regards and keep on sailing!
Your Jolla Crew

EDIT: So there is no confusion, this is not a real email. Just a hypothetical.

Hi. I apologize if there is some confusion. This is not a real letter. What I'm really asking is, if due to circumstances beyond the control of Jolla they are short of cash and ask folks to contribute $50 more so that they could deliver the tablets, would you do it? Actually I would...

That would be a move that makes double damages on Jolla: on the tablet customers front and on the prospective candidates of the new Jolla Adventures business accelerator program.

Saarnio gave an interview for mobiili.fi [in Finnish]. A clip translated to English:

Quote:

"We have for now got a very small amount of devices off the ground. When we otherwise got late, we also got late in terms of component orders", Sarnio explained about the lasting delays of tablets for mobile.fi.
So they are experiencing part shortages.

I've heard some rumors about the Intel mobile SoC being surprisingly hard to come by, at least compared to ARM SoCs.

But that would be pretty weird if true, given how hard Intel appears to be pushing in the mobile area.

Yes. Tax is required for shipment. So yeah.we will pay the 50 bucks even if it would be fair if jolla covered that part to keep supporters.

You could do the same with Jolla Tablet if you'd buy it from the same shop. You can't really bargain in online shops, can you?

I usually just call the webbshop. You can do it before. But it's better to first put the order and if the don't help you...simply cancel.
