Hi everyone.

I've been using an N900 for about a month now and wish I'd got one sooner. It's such a great device. Many thanks to all the members for building this excellent community.

Hi there!

I bought a second hand N900 recently and received it at the weekend. I have to say I love it! I was using an HTC Hero before this and I just love the fact I have a proper keyboard as I can't stand touch-screens.

I just wish it had a slightly faster CPU.

I am loving Rockbox on it at the moment...such good sound quality :-)

cheers guys!

Re: New members say hello !

You can overclock the cpu, which helps somewhat. Also look into CSSU Thumb for some performance gains (on the memory side), if you are ok with a "testing" distribution of CSSU. That said, I've been using it since it was released with no issues.

Re: New members say hello !

Hello.

I am new in the forum but I've been using the N900 for over a year now and I think that even know (March 2013) it is the best smartphone ever made. It is my first smartphone and I think that it will be my last (only if a manufacturer releases a smartphone with maemo on it, which I doubt). So it will be maemo until the OS dies (and I hope that it will not be too soon) or the phone dies (but I could always buy a used N900).

I would like to thank all the developers for their effort of maintaining maemo alive and all those who help the community.

Hello TMO!

I've been using the beautiful Nokia N9 for over a year now, and a proud owner of the N8 as well. I have been thinking of getting myself an N900, which I've wanted to for a long time now.

TMO has been an extremely valuable resource! Thank you everyone.

Aloha!

Bought a nice second-hand n900 last year. And now I'm finally getting around to messing with it, I'm having so much fun that I'm actually considering getting a second one.

I'm very impressed by the accomplishments of the community so far, and now that Nokia is getting out of the picture, it seems to me that Maemo might actually have a future! But I suppose that topic is better reserved for another thread...

Re: New members say hello !

I guess I should finally say something now that I'm part of the community (or at least a little bit).
I think I might be the youngest member in this whole forum - I've been messing around with my Nokia N9 since my freshman year of high school (9th grade). I'm a sophomore now, and my enthusiam is still the same, though I have less time with studying and all.
Time passed, I changed, I sold my N9. However, I now have another N9 that I'm never going to sell again.
It's true that I don't have a lot of experience, but I should be able to handle whatever the community has to throw at me. Quicktweak, ubiboot, nitdroid, oveclocking, and so much more. Whereas most people of my age wouldn't even dare touch their phones in fear of breaking it, I've messed around with this little guy so much - that my friends say I have a different phone every day.
While my schoolmates all hold iPhones or Android devices (or a few Lumias here and there), I hold one of the few devices that has kept me happy over the years. My friends call it the 'Oddball, or fake Lumia', but even without apps, features, or even support, I am content with what I have.
I hope to make a contribution here, and hope that I'm not too late into the game!

Re: New members say hello !

Hi all,

Another new member of TMO here (although I've been using the resources on maemo.org for some time).

I've owned a N900 since December 2011, which I got off my housemate, as none of the current handsets at the time particularly interested me.

I've been a Nokia smartphone user for several years -- previous handsets I've owned include N97, e90, 6680, 6600, and I used a 9500 Communicator I borrowed from work for a few months.

I've been using Linux as my primary PC OS for over a decade (currently Gentoo, although I did use Debian for a few years) and I have a preference for mobile 'phones with full QWERTY keyboards as well as touch screens, so the N900 is the ideal handset for me.

I appreciate all the work the community has put in to keep the Maemo platform alive and hope that the current situation is just a transition to something new and exciting, and hope I can contribute in some small way.

Just a quick intro.Joined the community this month after spending a long time just as a guest, due to my work in the isolated deserts of Australia relying on sat phones, and having a boss who threw out 4 new black N9 64gb,with all the trimmings,in the rubbish because he didnt understand them,I`m now enjoyed the frequent discussions, new and helpfull apps, the solving of difficult problems and having a few laughs.

Thank you to the developers, testers, and the whole community.

noob end user here. Got the n900 last year having used the nokia1100 and 6151 for a long time. Enjoying this resource, ie ploughing through threads and learning some linux basics along the way. Thank you for updating this site and making this vintage phone still the greatest (and only i think) open source phone.

Re: New members say hello !

Hey all,

I been hanging around for quite some time now trying to make something useful out of my N900, I mean beyond the it-s-a-smartphone thing, as in it-s-a-computer-with-mobile-phone-capability. I really like the options that I have, but up to now the really horrible battery life kept me from doing anything fancy.
Today I decided that widgets that don't update every second or are spammed by an external source (aka FB widget) can't be that bad, and stubbled across the QBW. Ten hours later, I actually made something nice and shiny.
So since chemist made me actually post what I made, where I'm usually reluctant because I think that my coding is not so slick and usually missing comments whatsoever, I thought maybe I should say hello.

Hello.

and before I forget: special thanks to the CSSU efforts on portrait mode!

Kind regards,

Sarah

Re: New members say hello !

Hello,

As most of you, been using nokia since I was a kid.
Then switched to windows mobile (Xperia X1, X2 and so on), then bought HTC HD2, and got into android :)
Tried almost all androids, up to Galaxy S4, iPhones etc.
Tried webOS, iOS, BB OS, then stayed with android until recently, got tired of it, and bought N9. Saw more opportunities in n900, so sold the n9, and, of course, got n900 :)

Now I have oldie goldie 8910i, 6800 (extravaganza, lol) and n900.
Hoping to get such in-depth knowledge of maemo as I have with android, with such community, I don't think it will take a long time :)

Cheers!

Hello everyone, I have just registered today and thought it would be rude not to introduce myself! :)

I have had my N900 for about 3 months now and realize there is a lot to learn!

I do have a few problems though, mainly regarding someone remotely accessing my phone and prevoius others. As I am new to this I dont really know where to start to ask for help. Any advice would be great!

Thanks carebear1

Hey!

N9 user since release and lurker at the forum since around 2011. Love the N9, but the 16gb has limited me quite a bit, so I just ordered my next phone, a black N9 64GB, and looking forward to using it for a bit more than webbrowsing, email and twitter. Hopefully Sailfish after a while, but not getting my hopes up. At least I will have space to try out some more stuff like Nemo and nitdroid. :)

Hi,

welcome. First search the forum and wiki as best possible and if no illumination, then start a thread explaining what you want to do etc. Any requests get lost here.
