...it doesn't take off, does it? TMO's still a much warmer place, probably because Lubetroll & Davetroll Bros. are quite frequently taking their piss in our pool.

The noise annoys me, and I don't really consider it warming TMO. I have to sift through a 50% or more of irrelevant posts here, in order to see something interesting. People are just too involved here, so even any better proposal will make them visit both places. And that's also uncomfortable. But still, it's better to solve at some point.

they won't achieve anything with that pricetag

Any plans of anyone working on XMPP clients for Mer. Communications framework in context of Jolla (Telepathy, Farstream and etc.). Audio/video conferencing and etc. Anyone working on open e-mail clients for Mer/Jolla etc. These kind of things are interesting to discuss.

Great topics and I happy to read anything related to that. My take on this is that is to early in the game for any real contribution at TMO. mailing list is better for now. But each of this would be a great thread when the time comes. Why not create one and see if anyone have ideas or working on it?

Why not push your question/ideas instead of sitting on them? :)

This is not unrealistic. €600 was what i paid for the N9. The Jolla device might well be more expensive because it's a smaller company and they'll probably sell less than Nokia did. I'm sure they'll find people who buy it even for €900.

What planet/Country do you live on/in? They won't/Can't take 900 Euros for the device!! Stop it right now please ;)

EDIT: Who came up with that number?

If they want expensive they should go really expensive!

Finnish people here, please go to http://www.tosielamandiili.fi/ and give your vote for Jolla as the best startup at Slush 2012.

Winning startup gets free television ad campaign on MTV3.

EDIT: Actually, for non-finnish speakers: go to link above and scroll down to Jolla logo. Look underneath it for a button that says "Tykkää". Hit that. Thank you.

It didn't work. Silverlight for video? Come on, who uses that?

Try Moonlight?

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Nah, I have enough native plugins installed including Flash. No need for more. I'm trying to get rid of that kind of stuff, not to add them. I'm just surprised that someone uses Sirvelight still. (I didn't see it being used anywhere in quite a while).

Silverlight is dead - Microsoft scrapped it in favor of WinRT and HTML5... Silverlight 5 was the last release.

Sorry, in general i'm with you, but here we disagreee...
They can't achieve anything with with a low pricetag, there are too many competitors with low pricetag. If i want that, i go for android, but this is not, what people want, who always had high-end-devices like people here in this community...

remember that?

Finland's Jolla Will Be The Ferrari Of The Smartphone World

There is no Ferrari for low price...

It should be like:
price at least like iPhone, but while you pay at least 40% of iPhone-price for the name, let half of the 40% go to SW-dev and the other half of it got to HW + 20% on top for a camera like PureView...

... just my thoughts, coming from a wedding-eve party :)

Edit:
it should be something so far ahead of the times like this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...mmunicator.png

Best conversation about that phone :)
"What is this?"
"It's a phone that can fax and email."
"What is email?"

Dave999 2012-10-19 05:03

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

An expensive phone is not the same as an overpriced phone and the price do not decided if it's a high end phone or not, at least not for me.

We dont know how Jolla's buissniss model looks like or even their strategy . The device can be secondary to the sailfish license. If that's the case they could sell it cheaper just to get the os out there. And when you speculate around price, you have almost no information about the device so that makes it even more pointless to speculate of real numbers. But I agree. Speculation is fun and the only thing that can move jolla, this thread and this community to a point where everybody heard that Jolla is the word.

To sell well the price will have to be reasonable i think the 600 - 900 thing is bit too much

Dave999 2012-10-19 09:50

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

How can you know it's too much when you don't know what you get? ;)

I don't think they aim to "sell well" in the sense that it will be a "hit".

I believe they are aware that their customer base is probably relatively small and will make "exclusive" devices instead.

Think Ferrari. Less quantity better quality. To a higher price of course. I would have no problem with this as long as it's a quality device.

Followed the link and tried that but it seems it requires you to have a facebook account

I still don't get the thing about companies wanting to get those thumbs on facebook... Most of the people on the world dont have / will not ever have a facebook account. It's self limiting in a way :(

Exactly what sane competition requires a facebook account to participate

The way things are going these days I wouldn't be surprised next time round for a competition to declare a winner based on the number of re-tweets a contestant generates [come to think of it, Jolla has a good chance in re-tweets :p)...

Still no answer from jolla regarding the community questions. I read in some intervju that they planned to do things with the community.

Anyone know what that means? Community representatives, handling our dev devices or simply just release som kind of Linux ui.

Looking forward to see Jussi and Marc as members here and if not, maybe an official jolla account?

They are working with the community!
Check Mer and Nemo projects you will see their close presence there, I know you would like to have some Jolla reps here, but TMO has nothing to do with them so I understand their absence here.

I know, but they also working behind close door. True, mer working for them and that's great. It's great to have Stskeeps here. But he cant/should not speak for Jolla. He is mer.

They might not get any help with cores or Nemo areound here. But when it comes to apps and devices the will have a lot to win to drop a post here once in a while under jolla account. After all they have a groundbreaking support here. Who cares if Nokia hosted this place. They have lots of potential customers and devs here. Take 10 minutes a week would be worth it.

Yeah I know what you mean, they are not keen to answer any specific questions or even show anything that their working on. Everything apart Mer and Nemo seems very closed down, secretive.

I hope that after the slush event we'll be able to really see what their doing

.... and maybe their definition of "community" at the moment is those who contribute code. That would be a reasonable definition for a software project IMHO.

Dave999 2012-10-20 14:13

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

That is true. They might think that the x (my guess around 15) devs supporting them atm is the community. But i think they have been in the buissniss long enough not to think that. The community is everywhere. It can also be seen in Jussis power points I've posted here before.

So I think they including application devs and users as well in their community. After all, Jussi using the word ecosystem more than elop himself.

mariusmssj 2012-10-20 14:19

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

There has to be a reason why their so secretive at the moment, i guess they really want to surprise everyone at slush next month
