Re: N900 shipping delayed

Amazon UK apparently no longer sell the n900... but my order for one appears unchanged. I think it may have fallen through a hole in the space-time continuum.

Price now at $ $582.99 via Amazon only (look here). On the other hand, the Nokia Preorder store claims availability for End October, can this taken seriously after all announcements? (I guess they wanna challenge the Droid release?)

I called Nokia USA today to cancel. I asked them about the release date and they said Mid Nov. They wanted to know why I was canceling, and I told them I had waited since Sept. so a little more wait was fine to save $130 from another retailer now that I'm not in a Lather.

Sure. Don't get me wrong, I'm by no means saying that there aren't, but the vast majority of people I know seem to be under the mistaken impression that any contract saves them money, which is a load of crap. The majority of them *don't* unless you manage to find some kind of special deal. Kind of to be expected, given that the phone company expects to - and will - make money off you, phone inclusive or exclusive.

I'm personally not in the market for a contract, but the above isn't the only reason why: my expenses are paid by my employer, so I've no need for one.

I've been on contract for so many years, as the phones work out cheaper over the term. But then I'm left with an Orange locked phone with tweaked firmware. I want to be in control and own the hardware and pay for services, like I do with everything else. Contract with 1 month cancellation too. Ideal..

I think it more likely they've disabled the link from the search engine, and will email me in the next day or so that the date is set back - possibly indefinitely.

So what's this HTC Leo thing like?....

Yeah, that was basically the same reason I used when I cancelled mine as well.... shame that they can't just either a) release it or b) have a firm release date - not some vague "we expect to ship in november" rubbish.

Mid November seems really bad compared to the Droid release. BTW: Do companies like Nokia and Motorola (and anybody else) sustain intelligence services to spy their competitors release dates? It is more than coincidence that the HTC HD touch, Droid and N900 are released so close to each other, huh?

More likely it's because it's closer to Christmas (the winter holiday shopping season). Same reason why most major videogames are released around this time. For example (Modern Warfare 2, Bioshock 2, etc..)
