- Nokia had October as release date for the N900, as we all know that didnt work out very well.

- People complained and etc, suddenly Peter from the Maemo team posts the following:

Ladies, gentlemen,

"as much as I love the discussion, are you sure you want to continue these threads endlessly? The day we start shipping you will see a Nokia press release announcing just that. The first Nokia N900 will not magically appear in some shop suddenly, somewhere, sometime, but we will let you know when we start shipping from the factory."

And also that they expect shipping during November.

- Until today, we have heard nothing from him.
- The UK lads gets a specific release date, and that is today, the 9th of November, and that date is confirmed to many users here, and under a long time.
Even i got an email yesterday confirming that the release is going just as planned.

- Today, there is nothing new, no press release, nothing changed on Nokias online shops, no email confirmation that it has been sent.

- The only thing that we have today is that some of the users have been charged for the payment of the N900.

Here you go, the 2000-post-summary.

Zico,
don't suppose anyone has any idea on who has been charged today? I've got a preorder direct from Nokia and nothing charged according to my card comapny and nothing showing movement-wise on the order either. Could we get an idea of when the orders were placed for those people that have been charged so maybe we can see if this might be a quick shipment for early preorders?

Just make sure you don't use Royal Mail for shipment - you'll be getting it the same time as our Scandanvian collegaues (Q1 2010) if you do with their current performance!

He had recieved word from Nokia around 10 minutes ago.

Maybe the guy you spoke to had a good commission on Vodafone? LOL.

Never yet seen a time when Operator versions of the phone were available prior to the sim free when direct from Nokia.

Who said anything about their striking? I was just commenting on the backlog they have and that's prior to the Christmas surge. As an organisation they aren't exactly renowned for speed.

Nokia said that they wouldnt be tied into exclusive deals with providers. So that vodafone rumour doesnt hold up.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to have to explain my comments, but since you asked...

What I mean is this: if you watch a Nokia video like their "Computer Grade Performance" one, you'll see lots of glitz. There's lots of action, with a musical beat in the background, lots of bright lights and gleaming bits, everything happens smoothly and nothing goes wrong.

If you fall in techno-lust, this is the dream that you are buying. And when the device arrives, it's the dream you are expecting to experience.

But by the next morning it's clear that it's just a dream. There isn't always enough light to take a decent photo, your 3G signal is sometimes intermittent, you end up with three duplicate contacts for "John" "john" and "Jonno", some websites load slower than in the shiny Nokia video, your battery runs flat so you can't make calls on the way home from work, one of your favourite games freezes up now and then, and so on.

If you were in lust with the device, this experience will bring you back to earth with a hard landing. But if you're looking to build a long-term working relationship with the device, you'll learn its foibles. You'll find ways to live with its weaknesses, and you'll continue to explore its strengths. Over time, the foibles will trouble you less, and you'll discover and enjoy more and more of its strengths.

The N900 looks to be a device that will reward this realistic long-term approach.

If you expect the N900 to be "better than (say) an iPhone", you're going to be disappointed because there are some ways in which it isn't "better" (e.g. it's thicker). But if you expect it to be "different from an iPhone", you're going to be thrilled because the N900 is a richer, more subtle, more rewarding and much less shallow device, and it will reward you with many new discoveries and improvements over the life of the device.

Regards,
Roger

It seems that Nokia is busy exchanging a larger amount of these crappy chinese chargers according to last press release.

If they have time for new press release about N900 release that may look as follows: "We are working closely with people all over the world that want to have a N900. We want to provide the best user experience with the delivery. The feedback from the community is extremely important to us. Thats why our marketing engineers are reading on talk.maemo.org to develop a new release date. This takes all our ressources. But at the moment our experts are not able to follow the thread in real time."

It's probably easiest if you subscribe to the RSS news feed for the press releases.

I wonder if Peter is reading this crazy thread. If so, "Hi, Peter! Hang tough!".
