Re: New members say hello !

Hello from new user of N900 phone.

I am from Europe and i finally got one of N900 phone i wanted so much.

By the time i got the phone now it looks like community moved to mass android usage and i can't seems to find much of a things to out there on the net about maemo.

I wanted to get this phone since it was out but at that time it was so expensive for me to get it but as years passed the phone price got reasonable for me to get it, but it was very hard to find one around here. Finally i found one and got it.

This is the phone i wont change until it breaks.

Hi!

As a new user (just a couple of days so far) of the N900, I'm astounded by the abilities of this little brick, the resources here on this site and the helpfulness of the folks on #maemo.

In just these few days, I've been able to install backupmenu, bluetooth-dun-client* and fixed modest to collect gmail. Thank you all.

OTG/HEN is next, allowing me to move tracks on and off a small mp3 player.

Haven't tried CSSU yet, it looks mighty tempting, but will have to wait till after my off-grid cycle through deepest, darkest Ireland in a few weeks.

Well on the way to the perfect comms/multimedia solution, one with a great camera built in and maps that work without a internet connection.

And all that fits in one hand! (and a heck of a lot lighter than separate netbook/camera/mp3player/gps and all the various batteries)

Wish I'd got one of these years ago! Lots of catching up to do, it's gonna be fun :)

* It works, atm I'm forcing nameserver entries into resolv.conf in the connect script and disconnecting most often causes the UI to lock up. But it works!

Ok, I'm not a new member, more a returning member. I got my first N900 the week it was released in the UK. I've had two more since then as well as two N9's before migrating to iOS.

Well, I'm back. Saw a couple of good deals on eBay and grabbed myself an N900 and an N9 and am excited to see the community is still here.

Note to self: update sig!

Hello!

I've just joined this forum, considering buying an N9 - having used Symbian phones for years and also the proud owner of 3 Nokia 808s, I thought I'd check out the N9.

Ok, so I'm late to the party- better late than never.

Re: New members say hello !

Some days ago I accidentally found the Neo900 project linked on the Replicant website while searching for a more secure Android firmware.

I almost immediately preordered a Neo900, because it has all the features I've been looking for for a looong time!

The Android update + bugfix situation and the possible code injection by the modem was unacceptable for me.

Since I have no experience with the N900 at all, I just bought a used one to change that.
(I never even noticed the N900 exists before :( )

Sill have a lot of reading and playing with the N900 to do...

Hello~! :D

Hello~! :D (x2)

The name's Petros!

Six years late AND YET I managed to get me a maemo device, I've been messing around with the n810 for almost a year now, and was kinda disappointed with the whole community thing(it being kinda dead and all that). But with the thought that I will put in the time and effort (plus, I just happen to have a brilliant mind  ), I'm hoping to learn and do lots and lots and LOTS of stuff over here.

I'mveryexcited:D:D:D:D

As soon as my finals are done and my device arrives I'm picking up where I left off. PORTING TIME. Well learning how to anyway. :D

Re: New members say hello !

Hiya guys. It's been nearly 3 years since I first lurked here (looking at my first post's date, at least).

In that time, I have managed to sell off the first N9 I had, dived around and tinkered with Android, some iOS and Windows Phone and today here I am back again, a bit more experienced than 3 years back. Right now, I'm using a Nexus 5.

It's kind of disappointing that you can almost hear the tumbleweed blowing within the halls of this community, but I guess that's too be expected for old devices like these. Kinda sad nitdroid and Sailfish for N9 kind of stagnated a bit.

I've missed the N9, and was fortunately able to score a working 64GB N9 for $30 - I only had to disconnect and reattach the battery (and in doing so, stripped the screws, and maybe some aesthetical damage) to make it work again.

I've wondered into delving into Harmattan app development as a hobby, it would be a bit risky and wasted time-wise when instead I could go dev Android or iOS, but hey why not try?

I've debloated it a bit, installed FasterN9, N9QTweak and Easy Debian.

After finals, I plan to find time to recompile a more recent version of syncevolution (to support Google's OAuth protocol) for my contacts, mail and calendar to make it more usable for my case (ownCloud and similar is a no-go yet, since I don't have resources for that). Google Keep, that's still a dead end.

And who knows what will happen next? I hope y'all welcome me back here. :)
Still looking forward to at least a fully working Kitkat port. :)))) or even Sailfish would suffice :)

EDIT: thank goodness for aegis-hack :))

Greetings, all!

So I have *cracked* and bought a N900 on eBay to see for myself what is so special about it.

Who knows, I might even go crazy and try porting Ethereum to N900 and N9 ;-) Why not. My test matrix is already extremely broad. Adding Freemantle and Harmattan doesn't seem impossible:

Pretense goes long way in the world[1], so most probably you are excellent at both :D
Could even be pretender to the throne!

Hello, this is an amazing community. I'm new to this devices(n900,etc) but i am already amazed with the support from talk.maemo. Hopefully will get a device soon to start learning something. From an android owners perspective, i have to say that there's more in a smartphone than play store.
Greetings

I haven't been to Koli this year. Since Sunday it's slightly above zero and the snow is melting here in JNS. I guess it's similar over there - the slopes are probably not in a good shape.

I've been cross-country skiing in Lykynlampti and Parnavaara on Saturday, the last day when it was worth.

Woohoo, I am also from JNS! But I moved away from JNS one year ago. :)

Re: New members say hello !

Hi folks,

So, I'm saying hi for the first time. In addition to my Symbian N8 & 808, I've got an N900, a Jolla Phone, and recently picked up an N9 which I expect will replace my Jolla as my daily device. Debian is my OS of choice for my mid-2009 MacBook Pro and my Nokia Booklet 3G netbook.

Details if you're interested...

I've had a N900 since 2013, which I used during the winter in Kyiv, Ukraine, for its resistive screen that allowed me to answer calls without pulling off my gloves like I had to on my N8. Plus I loved the Skype integration for for saving money while calling France to keep in touch with my girlfriend (who's now my wife). But my SIM mostly lived in my N8 when the weather was warmer just because of its camera. I've never been a heavy app user, preferring the classic idea of smartphones as converged hardware devices, not just small touchscreen computers.

Late 2014 I picked up a white Nokia 808 for the camera and the fastest Symbian experience. Loved the camera, but May 2015 the usb charger port quit charging, at the beginning of a summer of massive transitions, moving between states, then a trans-Atlantic move, helping my wife in her pregnangy, and with my N8 battery no longer getting me through a full day, I pulled out my N900 and its spare battery. I used my N900 daily for most of the summer and early autumn, until my Jolla Phone arrived.

I've used my Jolla daily since October 2015, though my N900's often in my bag as I'm learning French, and I find the Verbiste conjugation app indispensable. I've enjoyed using an OS that's being actively developed (and runs the two Android apps I need to use), but I'm disappointed with the Jolla phone's camera, and I missed the thinner phone-sized width of the N900, N8, and 808, wanted a better camera, and will need a phone with North American 3G bands, so I sold three older Symbian and S40 phones on ebay and bought a white 64 gb N9 here in the talk forums.

So far I love the N9. There are a few issues I need to learn about, but its got incredible hardware and a beautiful OS. I'll post my questions elsewhere. I enjoyed my Jolla, but it felt more like a tiny tablet than a smartphone.

Thanks to all three of you who read my whole post. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Hi. If i ever get divorced, it will probably be due to some device running Linux. Or maybe rather due to some device that stubbornly refuses to run Linux.

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum and wanted to say hello. 4 years ago I bought an N9 and was very happy with it. This forum has provided great help since then. Luckily I was one of the first donors at the Indiegogo campaign and received my Jolla Tablet within the first batch.

Re: New members say hello !

Hi everyone,
i have been lurking about for years here and finally decided to create an account.

i always liked to tinker with electronic stuff, had my first personal computer age 12 (IBM compatible with Intel 80286 Turbo 16Mhz)
and still work in Information Technology (though now as a technical Sales)

currently running an One Plus Two as my daily driver, but have a black N9 64GB as well with my secondary number, and a Xiaomi Redmi 1s running LiteW's nice port of SailfishOS.

the N9 takes the cake when it comes to the UI, it "just makes sense".
i have been using Android for years now, but i am just not interested anymore,
hope to stick around and get my N9 / Sailfish fix here

Hello again!

After 3 years I just bought a used N900 in a very good condition and start to learn everything again from scratch :)

As I see many things have changed - especially with the repos.
