Re: [Announce] kernel-power unstable v49

which pakage should I install if I will have kp 49 and overclock?

EDIT!!
Reboot loop after I installed
kernel-power_2.6.28-10power49_armel.deb
kernel-power-headers_2.6.28-10power49_armel.deb
kernel-power-modules_2.6.28-10power49_armel.deb
kernel-power-settings_0.13_armel.deb

Missed I something? :S

kernel-power-flasher to actually flash the kernel!

Just install the package - it'll take care of flashing the kernel as part of the install. You're also highly unlikely to need the kernel-power-headers package (unless you're compiling anything kernel-specific on the N900).

Nope, just the main kernel-power, the modules, settings & flasher.

@all - there is a bug in latest KP causing SmartReflex instability. Will send a patch to Pali and link to a fixed KP ASAP

@pali - please, make it very clear on the first page that there is a new frequency scheme, so if one has /etc/default/kernel-power, or loads some custom profiles, he/she MUST modify them according to new frequencies, i.e to remove 700 and to change 750 to 720.

@fahadj2003 - it does not make sense to undervolt dsp profile, SR will do it for you anyway. By "undervolting" you just move SR start point, but at the end the resulting voltages will be the same AIUI.

EDIT:
When I have some spare time I will make a post here describing how latest KP works re CPU/DSP speeds.

For now please, all of you just try dsp profile without modifications. If it works for you DO NOT TOUCH IT, just make it your default power-on profile. It has all the CPU/DSP power and battery savings you need, even though max CPU frequency is 805.

If "stock" dsp profile does not work for you, then you can try to edit it, lowering DSP frequency for 805 from 600 to 520 and consequently lowering 720 and 805 DSP frequencies from 520 to 430, leaving SR enabled all the time.

And If it is still unstable please do the following:
1. find a profile that works for you (try with lv, it should work)
2. post here the contents of
/sys/cpuinfo
/sys/power/Efuse
/sys/power/idcode
3. Wait until I find why SR does not work stable an some devices :) . It is a shame for both TI and Nokia that SR is unstable on n900, it gives a huge amount of battery savings. So I will do my best to make it stable on all devices.

You should check the on screen message and verify the flash process after the install of kernel-power-flasher.

At the end, reboot..

That doesn't look like the correct file. Why does it have a .desktop extension? I'd suggest redownloading the kernel-power-flasher .deb file.

@pali With "backport harmattan patches" do you mean that you have merged all the lines updated in Harmattan Kernel?
This could be a step forward in porting Harmattan...
Thanks for response ;)

DSP driver is backported form Harmattan, i.e. this build and n9/n950 are running almost one and the same bridgedriver.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power unstable v49

By the way, any plans (with ~date of executing) of putting kp49 into repos, and starting submitting new patches as kp50 testing?

I still think it would be better to "quasi-fork" kp, and get usable extras-testing-devel, but, whatever. It would just be great to see new version in repos - many important changes/fixes, and it's been long time without update (in repos).

/Estel

//Edit

If someone would ask me, I think it's better to include finished, well tested 720p recording/playback related patches by freemangordon (from kp side), even if this mean quite a delay. That would also allow implementing fully functional, GUI based 720p recording/playback - with next CSSU update, containing new camera-ui.

Still, everything "after" that (on kernel side) should IMO go to kp50 - new things need testing, and we don't want to sit outside repo (and with 346455 different versions of kp49 installed on user devices) forever, yea?

If you're using kernel-power49 then you need to get the kernel-power-bootimg .deb file from pali's directory (as linked from the first post) - apt-get will only see kp48 as that's the latest in the repository.

Hey,

i updated from kernel power 48 to kernel power 49.

I had the problem that i coudn't reboot my N900 with "root, reboot" in x-terminal and with the "reboot" button in the power key menu.
Updating to Kernel Power 49 doesn't solve that curious problem.
I flashed my N900 a week ago.

Please help how i can solve this problem :(

kp48/49 doesn't have any problems with reboot, so Your statement is wrong.

Not related to kp.

I flashed my N900 with vanilla a week ago. Everythin worked fine, i could reboot my device with pluged and unpluged cable. But after installing kernel power 48/49 i can't rebbot anymore. It hangs up by the NOKIA screen...

Estel 2011-11-09 16:02

Re: [Announce] kernel-power unstable v49

Sorry, I've misunderstood You - take my honest apologies. I thought you mean that reboot button does nothing, which would be non-related to KP.

If You mean that, on kp48/kp49 rebooting result in not going past Nokia logo (You need to power up manually), I *confirm* this bug. I've been scratching my head for a long time, trying to discover what causes it (using multiboot, after reboot + keyboard out, multiboot menu pops-up just fine).

So, it seems, that it's some kp bug? I would *love* to see it fixed - it's not critical, but irritating for sure.

Note, that I'm *not* using R&D mode, if this is of any importance here.

Hmm, I had similar behavior, but latest kp49 fixed reboot problems for me. I'm using multiboot, and reboot always ended with " not going past Nokia logo (You need to power up manually) "... I agree it's not a big problem, but definitely annoying.

hi

i just installed the new kp49 so i have a question how to load dsp profile?
cause i tried 'kernel-config load dsp it say's 'kernel-config: not found
or do i need to set my own dsp profile?

edit: i got it i loaded dsp profile, the minfreq=250 and maxfreq=805 do need to change it? sorry i'm confused :o

thanks

freemangordon 2011-11-10 06:43

Re: [Announce] kernel-power unstable v49

@JSTAR - if you feel 805 is high enough for you then you can leave it as it is. This (dsp) profile has 600 MHz DSP frequency and SmartReflex enabled, so if your device is stable with it, then it is OK.

You need a dsp frequency of 600 which you already have at 805. There is no need for 900/950.

I don't have any reboot problem with latest kp49
In fact, i don't have any problem since i updated. Even battery life is better with new dsp profile, i even removed the battery patch ^^

Also i use multi boot and backup menu, i have multiple kernel (stock, kp48 and kp49) to load and do not get any reboot with any of them.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power unstable v49

Since I got my phone, every now and then it hangs at the nokia logo when I reboot. Sometimes, pressing the powerbutton helps. If that does not help, I have to remove the battery for 5 seconds. I do not see any relations which a KP version.
