Re: Abiword for OS2008?

Yup. It looks like it wasn't included in the .deb.

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

There must be a problem with the build system/packaging that means it's not including the binary in the .deb, because I do know it's being created.

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

Ah, ok, I think I fixed it. There's a new "+test1" version, give it a shot. The binary was being overwritten by a symlink to the binary :-/

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

My problem is that the new build asks for libglade2-0 >= 1:2.6.1 while that on my tablet is 1:2.4.0-1osso2.
Where did you get that?

EDIT it's in extras-devel (needs the red pill) but I have to see the pros and cons of the thing - in particular what it is going to destabilize... libglade is used by some other soft on my tablet

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

Try doing "apt-get update" then "apt-get -f install"; it was in one of the basic repositories on my testing device.

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

Same problem here. I tried removing the previous version, apt-get -f install, then tried the new one again... same error!

Thanks for your persistence!

Edit: Same issue as debernardis. I'm scared to replace such a fundamental library. I don't have a "testing device". I'm prepared to have AbiWord and all its docs be expendable, but not the whole tablet.

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

Oh well, I updated libglade while crossing my fingers. The old one was used by evince, quiver and gizmo (plus other stuff) and all seem to work after updating. Phew!
The +test1 version of abiword installs. Invoked from xterm - it runs.
N810 with 2.2007.50-2 operating system.
I am keeping it on some minutes before starting my tests - no crash.
Now opening my test doc, with graphic letterhead and graphic signature... see what happens...

EDIT: from first tests, it seems that a graphic letterhead plus another graphic in the page is too much for this build. Attempts to move a graph or add some text result in the program to take 100% cpu and stall the tablet, at the point I needed to pull the battery to restart.
I'll make more ordered tests and report on bugzilla as required by Ryan.

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

Thanks for your bravery... not sure why this latest build decided to want a new libglade since I only changed one thing, but who knows. I'm using the latest scratchbox, I wonder if I somehow have the extras-devel libglade instead of the extras libglade. I should probably remove libglade, disable devel, and re-install - does this sound reasonable to people?

[EDIT: PS - those of you who asked to be added to the project, welcome and use your access responsibly! I've commited the build instructions from cleardefinition in an elaborated format in SVN, please feel free to fill in gaps or offer corrections, either through direct commits, patches to the mailing list, or reports and/or patches in bugzilla!]

[EDIT EDIT: I have added a note in the instructions on how to get the older version of libglade, since I don't think it matters to AbiWord. I'm currently reviewing the patch to abiword.desktop.in - I'll commit it when I have it cleaned up - in its current form it duplicates the x-osso-type line...]

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

OK, the libglade dependency issue as well as the starting from the menu issue (thanks ldrn for the patch) have been fixed in pre20080128+test2, now being uploaded. This is getting scarily close to being useful :D

[EDIT: Upload complete. Private beta testers, please try out this version and let me know of any issues, questions, etc. you might have. I can't test it yet, but I'm considering opening the Chinook beta soon if I have good feedback.]

Re: Abiword for OS2008?

Great! Installed and running. To get it started right, I submitted a bug which turned out to be a dupe. Doy. I'll be smarter from now on. Maybe.
