Now that's funny... I'm sure I already posted this answer, still it's not there... Well:

Great! I'm *very* happy I read this today because I'm leaving home this afternoon until monday. If I stayed home, I would probably play with this all weekend... Not healthy ;)

The only thing I'm trying to get sorted out now:
The changes need to be in osso-rss-feed-reader-lib, because this is where the shared code between applet and main application is. As a matter of principle I wouldn't replace Nokia binaries, though: It makes installing a mess.

Maybe the only way to go will be to copypaste relevant code from osso-rss-feed-reader-lib into a new stylus-rss-feed-reader-lib, but still read/write settings to the places where osso-rss-feed-reader-lib expects them. This way, the applet will call the advanced settings (including thumb/stylus option), while Nokia's original applet and the main application will still call the unchanged settings dialog.

I can *think* about this during the weekend and try next week. ;)

Im using the Stylus Friendly RSS applet, and was wondering, is there anyway to make it open the links in another browser, such as Tear which is what I am using?

only if you go to
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/stylus-rss/
login there and leave a comment telling the world how much better your life is now that you installed this applet: how you lost weight, have a better sex life, more hair (in the right places) and that it helped you stop smoking. give it 5 stars, and I'll think of it. ;)

seriously, i already started experimenting with getting all the backend logic (which is now shared between the applet and the main rss reader) into the applet code, thus making it possible to further expand settings without conflicting with Nokia's original binaries.

It's really hard for me because I learn everything "as I go". Remember I don't know C or GTK+ or the magic auf automake and stuff, so basically each line of code means "ask Google" to me.

Once I have an idea of how to do all this cleanly and future-proof, there'll be a first release that includes qwerty12's patch to the settings window (probabnly without any real effect to the applet, just a dummy), and then we can go on.

My aim now is to (ab)use this as a learning tool and as my personal playground for making mistakes, so I'll certainly take my time... ;)
