Re: Not Enough Memory in Target Location Error

well i did the whole thing and there was an error...
It told me that i should type:
"apt-get -f install" to fix something and so i did...
But again another error happened :
Code:

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/cmt-firmware-rx51_8.2.2009.47-1.97+0m5_all.deb (--unpack):
<br> failed in buffer_write(fd) (9, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during `./boot/cmtImage-09w47': No space left on device
<br>dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
<br>Errors were encountered while processing:
<br> /var/cache/apt/archives/cmt-firmware-rx51_8.2.2009.47-1.97+0m5_all.deb
<br>E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code

It's all chinese to me...lol

Oh by the way i have the whole thing/script copied if it would help!

That would be great! can you elaborate please b666m? don't know a nokia updater... I know nokia pc-suite, i have the program but it can't connect to n900... At least that's what I thought. Maybe a link would help me and my uselessness...

Re: Not Enough Memory in Target Location Error

the best advice i gleaned from these posting was to disable all the repositories then start deling programs until conky says there is about 48 MiB availble space in rootfs. i didn't see which program it was that released about 15MiB but i gather it was one which was not optified. just remember, any program you remove can be replaced when the update is over.

Eww - I wouldn't advise that. Most of the "bricking" issues we get here seem to be NSU related, so I'd avoid it like the plague. See http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware for the flashing instructions - it's not really that complicated.

Check out this bug before you do the apt-get upgrade: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6014

And after the upgrade it's advisable to do one more apt-get clean.

Re: Not Enough Memory in Target Location Error

I found that this issue happens when you install apps/games from extras-devel. To be able to install more applications you'd have to remove some of the existing applications from extras-devel.

What I would like to know..is there some kind of work around? And does this problem occur by installing a certain amount of apps from extras-devel or by their size. Eg: the limit is 3 apps of 200 mb each (600mb) or 15 apps no matter what their size is?

Thanks

It depends entirely on the apps - if they're optified then they should take up very little space in rootfs (no matter how large the actual app is), whereas non-optified apps can take up a lot of rootfs space.

As for workarounds - you can manually "optify" some of the applications (if it's a large binary file or data file then it's pretty easy to move into /opt somewhere and add a symlink back), but others are more complicated.
