Re: what is the best 3g phone for connection with the N800 ?
I use an old razr v3m with the first rev of evdo and while the battery life is poor the speed is sufficient and setup is painless. It will very occasionally drop the connection, but not so often as to be annoying.

Just wanted to note that today I finally bit the bullet and re-upped with ATT and got the LG Shine and a 15 buck media net option. Works out the box with N800 with diablo.
Lucky since I work for a school I also get a 15% discount on my service so that medianet plan comes in just over half price for me. YAY. The nice young lady who worked there decided to be nice and not charge me the tether rate. Shine was $9.99 after mail in rebate and I get 3G speed. |

I'd just like to add the Boost i335 at a BLAZING 12kbps over BLUETOOTH!
Damn those bluetooth bottlenecks ;-) Seriously I'm NOT using my business boost phone. I'm using my t-mobile Android G1. I have the TetherWifi and TetherBlue apps and they bluetooth is limited to 80kpbs through a driver issue, and the Wifi easily can reach in the 700kbps range. (But only if you're lucky and the wind is just right and you get 3G in your area) Reference: http://androidactivity.com/compare.html |
Re: what is the best 3g phone for connection with the N800 ?
A couple of questions for you guys:
* Hows the 3G speed on your tablets once it goes through bluetooth? I'm concerned that bluetooth may be a bootleneck. I'm torn between the Nokia 3555 and the TM506. * So, has anybody tried tethering with a G1 recently? I read that in the past, you couldn't, but then I find articles like the following: http://www.gotontheinter.net/content...ring-how-short |

However, the tablet is sort of slow to render stuff. So, perceptually, there is no difference between BT DUN and WIFI. I browse the web and steam music over BT DUN all the time. It works great. BTW, there are instructions for debranding the TM506 on howardforums. I've done so to mine, and now I have access to the FM Radio, google maps has access to the GPS, I can customize the interface, it can run any java app, and I can post a photo straight to blogger. the 506 is a great phone once debranded. |

It was a bit slow to me when I last used it on the road with a full strength signal, but still useful.

Awesome! Thanks, guys. Also, I just learned that you can tether with the G1. So, now I'm eyeing that too. Thought it is about $200. So, I may just look at the TM506 used... how are google mail and maps on the TM506?
