I updated the instructions in my first post (about half-way down) so they are hopefully easier to understand. However, even after you have followed the steps to configure it, hitting the icon won't visibly do anything since this runs completely in the background with no interface.

awesome work fellas! I do have a bug to report. I was listening to a podacst prior to installing the latest notifier. I have noticed that when I receive a new sms, the sound plays as it should but then starts up the podcast from the begining! I can not stop the sound without actually opening up media player and closing it manually. pretty funny :)

**Edit if I remove the podcast from the now playing list, the sound is all that I hear. Does this mean that media player is still now running in the background even though I hear no other sound(playlist has ended but application does not close)? guess I'm curious as to how it works and why it wanted to play my playlist :)

Yea I was worried this might be a problem. It happened to me while listening to music today. I had been researching a way to play the sound file without spawning a new process, but I hadn't found anything and figured this would tide you guys over :).

I'll take a look at the flipclock code again.

Okay I thought I was doing the right the right thing. That is what I have been doing and it is telling me file not found. But I have the icon so apparently it installed. I am going to uninstall and reinstall it and see if that helps.

Thanks

Uninstalled, re-installed, rebooted, still isn't working. Any other ideas? I typed it exactly in the terminal hit enter and got file not found. Am I supposed to type it at the $ sign?
thanks again for the help

Yes, at the $ sign. Also don't use the quote marks, and make sure there's a period before gv-notifier.

Hmm, actually using vi it shouldn't ever say file not found, even if the file doesn't exist. It will just open an empty file that you can edit.

And yes it's a dash.

path is /usr/lib/gv-notifier/gv_notifier.py

file not found would be because you're typing it wrong. Otherwise try cd-ing to the directory and typing ls to make sure the files are all there.
