Ah, of course... I'd be curious to hear what arguments they have for not allowing IMAP while leaving MAPI access open to the whole wide Internet :-|

evolution supports mapi at the moment, it's not pretty at this time - but it works well enough to struggle with.

Maybe someone will help out on this?
In Fremantle modest will support account protocol plugins, so I suppose a libmapi one would be possible. I don't know if anyone will consider it worth the effort if modest (being a Hildon application) is going to be replaced with something else in Harmattan.

No, it means we all saw the thread about 100% open source and assumed he had taken the same tone of slight overreaction here that he had there.

I'm incredibly cynical, but the main reason is because most (not all) admins are hopeless, and getting them to do anything that requires any knowledge or skill is practically impossible

Yes, it means, as GA said, that contextual cues are VERY helpful. :)

Looks like this is getting announced right now, and it may be Symbian (S60) only. More news to follow...

----edit----

Sound like MS Office Mobile will be making its way onto S60 devices next year, starting with the E-Series. There will also be Exchange connectivity involved. Nothing so far about Maemo, but enterprise clients should be pretty happy.

Office (Word, etc.) isn't the point of this agreement. Share Point is. Share Point will replace Office in the version after 2010 when it totally an integrated piece of the platform.

Nokia's agreement assures that not only will they have a piece of the SP pie, but their devices will integrate better and at a cost savings that RIM can't match.

Add Maemo devices on top of that and you have the means for enterprises to accept, culture, and develop open source software, VoIP services, and pretty much become what Nortel dreamt of decades ago.

So where does Maemo fit in to all of this? The press release specifically says "Symbian" devices, but I thought Nokia was expected to begin shifting high-end devices to Maemo. Will Nokia stick with Symbian for enterprise devices?

So maybe there is a place for OpenOffice on Maemo in the near term...

Nokia has not announced any plans to position Maemo devices above Symbian devices in their product lineup. Nor has Nokia announced a Maemo 5 device. Therefore, even if Nokia and Microsoft will be working together to make Office available on high-end Maemo devices, it would be a bit premature make such an announcement today.
