Re: Nokia Map Loader

OK, I did something else, I saw a .qf file in the n900 phone's flash memory. I made a copy of that, and renamed it to qf (without the dot in front, unhides the file) then I made a same copy of qf and put it into the sd card as well.

So there are 2 identical files named "qf", one on sd card and one in phone memory. The 2 qf files seem to apppear as 1 file in PC Suite mode, and the n900 is detected in PC Suite mode. I haven't tried uploading any maps yet. Still playing around.

P.S. I'm using Win 7 64-bit, nokia map loader version is 3.0.28.0.

Just download "Xp Mode" on Windows 7. Map Loader works perfect.

Re: Nokia Map Loader

Something very strange must be happening because it does not work for me at all. And I have the latest map loader running on a Win 32-bit machine with SP3.

Can someone shed a bit of light here? Or provide me a link with detailed instructions on how to download maps without the map loader?

Getting Nokia Map Loader to work in Win 7 64-bit

I confirm my method works:

HOW TO MAKE NOKIA MAP LOADER WORK IN WIN 7 64-BIT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Find the .qf file in the root dir of the n900 phone's flash memory

2) Make a copy of the .qf file, and rename it to "qf" (without the dot in front, unhides the file) in the root dir of the n900 phone's flash memory

3) Make another same copy of the file named "qf" and put it into the root dir of the sd card as well

4) Use the n900 in PC Suite Mode with Nokia Map Loader

Notes:
So there are 2 identical files named "qf", one on sd card and one in phone memory. The 2 qf files seem to appear as 1 file in PC Suite mode, and the n900 is detected in PC Suite mode.

Nokia Map Loader seems to report the capacity of the sd card, but the maps are actually loaded to the phone's flash memory. I'm not sure what happens when you exceed that limit or try something funny.

I'm interested in any comments whether this method works with Windows Vista 32/64-bit and Windows 7 32-bit.

P.S. I'm using Win 7 64-bit, Nokia Map Loader version 3.0.28.0.

P.P.S. Virtual PC eats resources and is a hassle, that is why I try to avoid XP Mode.

Re: Nokia Map Loader

Sorry guys i've not replied, but you have it figured anyway. I remeber from my research and troubles with my N95 8GB that the qf file needs to be present, as this is what file is created when Nokia maps starts up for the first time on symbian, so I thought I'd just copy it from my N95 and fool the Map loader!

Remeber to click delete maps from storage, it's a good idea to clean your device of any maps.

This also works in Windows 7 (32&64bit). Thanks.
