Re: Application Manager Operation Failed

being root means being administrator (in ms windows terms), not some file. how to get there is described in the wiki and asked several times already:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access

as pointed out in post #36, check

http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space

for more information how to free up your root fs.
don't delte clueless entries and files -- you will end up with a device fit to be reflashed only.

but according to your posts, i strongly recommend you to back up your data with the backup app and reflash.
it will save you a lot of trouble and help t make the device usable again the most easy way.

for how long?
depending on the quality of the connection and the number of requests, the server has to handle, it can take quite some time to answer.

what about your sources list did you add any repositories (ie catalogs)?

if you got root access, you could try

apt-get update

abd watch the output for clues.

care to elaborate? wwhat does "originally empty" mean?

well when i typed the code that was shown on post #22 in this thread it shows 0.

as for repositories, i only got nokia, maemo.org extras, testing and devel, oh also ovi.

ah, ok.
that only means, there are no files in that directory.

remove at least devel. if you have no clues what to do with your error, i guess, devel is not for you.
if you do as pointed out by me, become root and try to update the catalogs with

apt-get update

you should see some output hinting at the repository/catalog not responding.
due to the fragile and easily changing nature of devel, it very well may be deel not reponding.

i'm sure, 2m is still too low -- you will end up with no space left pretty soon again.

looks like you, while playing around, accidently removed that folder.
check, if
/var/cache/apt/archives/
still exists and then do as root

mkdir /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/

if not, post the output of

ls -alR /var/cache/apt/

search forum and wiki for information on how to reflash. there's a flasher (download at nokia.com somewhere, iirc) and different images to flash.

Re: Application Manager Operation Failed

I'm getting error messages now when I try using Application Manager too....

"(no updates available)"...

When I try 'apt-get update' (after sudo gainroot...) in terminal, I get error message:

Code:

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (2 No such file or directory)
Weird thing is that App Mgr was working earlier this morning.....

Only things I did this morning were the following:

A) Deleted and then recreated extras-devel repository per another thread in order to try and be able to get some apps from there again....

B) Installed some apps...

C) Set up the email appfrom the widget on desktop...

Using wifi connection and it works OK as I can get online with web browser....

Any suggestions to get App Mgr working again????

Thanks!
