Re: How to enable FM transmitter (?)

I agree - this is an important thread. Especially considering I am in the UK - using my device in the UK and having Nokia say I can use the FM Transmitter in the UK - but having it disabled, with little input from Nokia so far.

As others have said, when travelling, the user should have the opportunity to decide if they use it or not - and as per the Nokia site, certain countries need to check whether they are allowed to use the transmitter before they do - I therefore assume, the decision in those countries is left with the user.

Here is the link for Nokia where it shows waht countries can use the FM Transmitter etc. http://europe.nokia.com/support/fm-transmission

Other Nokia phones like the N97 and the Xpress Music series have the FM Transmitter enabled, here in Greece. I don't know what's going on here, but.. It's not fair! :D

Please look at: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...3&postcount=57
It's not only newer, but I get to show off my newly-learnt GObject skills :)

Here's the first release of fmtx-faker.

It's only been tested on my N900 which has it enabled by default, anyway, so reports are appreciated.

It's hardcoded to send back "other/50" (see /etc/sysinfod.conf); that will be configurable in a later release.

Install and reboot.

Oh, I also take no responsibility if you happen to get arrested whilst using the transmitter. Enjoy.

Indeed, there is (or was) at least one other Nokia phone available in Greece that has a working FM transmitter. However, AFAIK it is indeed illegal to transmit in FM without acquiring a license first: Non registered radio stations that broadcast are considered illegal. Perhaps there are are some bands that are free but I'm not aware of any such FM band.

Here is a link that mentions a 100.000 euros fine for illegal broadcasting against "Style FM" Radio (in greek): http://www.radiofono.gr/node/1829

The restriction seems related to defense/military and health issues. Have a look here (also on greek): http://www.eett.gr/opencms/opencms/a...POF319-080.pdf

FWIW: I believe that this restriction is (somehow) common across all Europe and that the requirement of registration of radio broadcasts is a European law.

This made me so happy that I had to register an account only to be able to thank you!

I would really appreciate if you could share exactly how this trick works, and how the program/script function step by step.

Anyway, many thanks!! :D

Solution was found.

You can read more about it in this thread: How to enable FM transmitter (?)

Someone could merge these two threads.

Thank you very much.

Tested it in the morning on my radio and it works flawlessly.

Now my N900 is complete, as it was meant to be. :)
