Re: Bricked N900 - HELLLPPPP!!!!

Hi guys, Just want to say a big thanks to all who have helped us "first time flashers"

I have found myself in need of a reflash after I maxed my rootfs yesterday and could nolonger boot up. (I knew this day would come soon as I did have alot of crap and failed installs on the device, so a complete reinstall was for the best :P)

So, I have eagerly been reading your posts and scouring the wiki&how-tos for help. Just waiting for my phone to charge now before I start.

Anyhoo, Thanks again to all and good luck to everyone try to flash theirs :)

The EMMC flash will wipe out all the data on ur internal 32GB storage. So hope you have a backup of it beforehand.

I would suggest a EMMC flash too. Read the Wiki.

Also after EMMC flash, u have to flash the kernel again & DO NOT reboot after EMMC flash...

if your problem before flashing is due to apps that are malfunctioning or your MyDocs acts weird, then eMMC must be flashed.......

i have no problems since day one on my Mass Storage device so i have not flashed my eMMC before :)

Guyz...I can't express my happiness...My N900 back to Life Again..!! Thank God..!! :) I have not done the eMMC as I don't want to loose few important data I have. I had unplugged the USB cable and powered on the phone.. The usual 5 dots were processing for some 2-3 minutes then the Phone is Back to desktop... :D My eyes were twinkling after seeing that ...Its all b'coz of you guys..The Camera also working now very fine. It is like I'm having a new device :D You have done a GREAT Job...is there anything do I have to do after this?
This Maemo Community solved my emotional feelings for the gadget as well :)
Would like to know one thing, do this flashing cause any other side effects ...what is the main purpose of doing the flashing..Frequent flashing is good for the device ? Thanks Again to everyone..:) :) :)

It just wipes and reloads the OS the emmc flash formats and repartitions the emmc for home and MyDocs.

No side effects, annoying to do, as such do as and when needed.

we have the wiki in case you encounter more issues.

AFAIK, flashing is not that harmful, what i know harmful is, the reason(s) you are flashing,

i have flashed my n900 3 times on unboxing day, and more re-flash follows. most of my reflash is due to lack of education on maemo and linux, some are from testing and installing development apps and mods

Hey man. Did you flash it by the link I send you? Becaise I think its old.
One thing more I would like to suggest you is that you should consider repartitioning your drives because many users including me had their memory full in partition of applications. I cannot do it because there are loads of apps I have installed and I dont want to loose them. You dont have much apps at the moment so you should do it right now.

Oh..Great. Yes. I have followed the link you provided. It helped me a lot. Thanks a lot dude. BTW, how to do the partitioning of the drive. Is there any forum on this in our maemo. Hope it should be. Thanks anyway :)

open the emmc image with a hex editor and change the size of home from 2048 to 7168. its in the first few lines as far as I remember.
Then flash this edited emmc image.
